WEST GERMAN GSG9 SPECIAL FORCES WW2 M38 FALLSCHIRMJAGER STYLE STEEL HELMET

GERMAN PARA HELMETS,CURRENTLY CAN COST £80 FOR A REPRO TO £9,000 FOR AN ORIGINAL.. A MINEFIELD TO THE UNWARY, THIS HELMET IS NEITHER GENUINE WW2 OR A REPRO, ITS ONE OF THOSE MADE IN THE 1960S TO 70S FOR THE WEST GERMAN GSG9 SPECIAL FORCES ORGANISATION,AND CONSISTS OF NO WW2 PARTS.IN THIS VID WE DISASSEMBLE IT...I KNOW THIS HELMET TO BE WHAT IT IS..I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU DISASSEMBLE ANY WW2 GERMAN HELMET WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN TAMPERED WITH...A SURE WAY TO KNOCK HUNDREDS OF POUNDS OFF ITS VALUE....IRONICALLY THESE GSG9 HELMETS ARE RARER THAN THE WW2 EXAMPLES..YET ARE WORTH A FRACTION OF THE VALUE.

@@historicmilitaria1944 it is truly scary sometimes when you see fakes/repros being sold as genuine items. I certainly haven't got as much time in the game as yourself, I've only been a serious collector for the last ten years, and I often revisit your videos as they become more related to my collection in that if I buy something quite often in the back of my mind I think.....ah I think 'military collectables' did a video on that a few years back. The frightening thing about it is.....I am on a budget and rarely go mad and spend a significant amount , but I have done that once or twice for period items I feel are good.....basically deacs☺. There must be a lot of people out there who have tons of cash to spend and have paid the ££ for a fake helmet. In my naive world I didn't realise the price of german ww2 paratrooper helmets....even if I was a very well off person the prices would frighten the f**K out of me....so as always thanks for your video (s), I suppose they should be a video library! , and for giving people who are not as experienced a chance. I really think that repros have a place in a collection, at least you know you ain't getting stiffed...cheers as always ☺

@@steelhelmetstan7305 problem is, the fakes are getting better...even british ww2 home front enamel factory ARP badges are faked nowadays!!!! such is the demand for them....repros have a place in any collection, most military museums displays are repro items, nice to see the vids are of use in identifying bits n pieces.

@@historicmilitaria1944 cheers cj, on that note I've been watching a few videos on KZread, we're people get relic condition helmets and restore them, using all sorts of processes and 'car putty' sanding them back and re -painting them, they look like brand new. I don't feel that I would be happy buying something that had been stuffed around with so much. I don't mind a bit of rust on helmets, cleaning it up a bit, maybe a bit of paint etc fine or even stabilising a knackered area, but a complete rebuild....don't think it's my cup of tea☺☺

@@steelhelmetstan7305 true, i see dodgy rebuilds on e bay all the time, as far as relic shells go, its best just to treat with a clear spray laquer, at the end of the day a bad rebuild is just a rebuild, worth only the amount of money which someone has put into it.

Ive seen one at a local market near me . It had the luftwaffe eagle on the side. Don't know how much it was going for but I'm certain it wouldn't a couple of grand ..

im betting it was one of the typical e bay/soldier of fortune/epic militaria examples, a repro is worth up to a hundred quid uk, but no more.

I have a question. I see somtimes normal german army helmet m42 without a maker mark in the shell. Is it than autmatically a fake repro or somthing like that or can it still be a original ww2 army helmet. Im just a 15 year old starting collector and i have a lot of help from your video's so many thanks! Hopefully you or someone else can answer my question!

hi, no maker mark to an m42 does not necessarily indicate a repro, it could be a Norwegian or other countries copy postwar helmet, difficult to say without viewing it, good luck with your collecting.

@@historicmilitaria1944 yes indeed, the one i have at least has the decal underneath the camo, but aside from that the liner is a dead give away and the foam pads as well, mine is a 1940 one build with apple green paint underneath normandy camo. But it seems like they use the same bolts on the GSG one as on the m1938 fj helmet

I have this model!, I knew this was different has no model or batch number has a textured look and a light green color the profile is slightly different than the M38 WWII versions and different from the M55 as you were saying with the rolled edge outside. How rare are these? im happy I have one i wondered about this helmet i had a guy bugging me about it to see if I wanted to sell it? glad I did not. Thankyou Sir, i subscribed to your channel too

Thanks, appreciate the sub....they are rarer than the ww2 type but dont fetch the same money......with liner and strap they are 350 to 400 english pounds..but no doubt prices will rise...if you have one, keep it because it would be hard to get another...I have seen an empty shell only on e bay at 150 pounds......they will never be worth the thousands that a ww2 version will be

Interesting video. So this GSG9 version, sans markings, wouldn't be too difficult to duplicate for the fraudsters. Just some Bundesgrenschutz green and some aging ? I have a couple original 55-61 versions, and also some repro's I got from Nicholas Morigi in the 90's. I guess they'd be Chinese ? Thanks

the old morigi repros were made in the USA, the americans were the first to produce all repro fallschirmjager helmets...I forget the company but they also sold repro metal pistols, the GSG9 does not have any markings stamped to shell, the fraudsters would have to stamp these markings and get them perfectly straight...I saw a modded one on e bay a week ago and the stampings were very up and down!!!

good video but the guy, not withstanding his scottish accent, repeats himself as if he is trying to teach English to a foreigner at a pace that makes it sound like he is also drunk. I wish he had an original WW 2 helmet in order to compare side by side as I am still trying to find out after 10 years of searching and finally buying and another 10 of researching if mine is original or not.

it is never a GSG9 Helmet , and the early Luftlandedivision Helmets are different , the edges where the same like the GSG9 or US M1 helmets the rest was like the M38 the Liner is close to the 1960 but they did not have a Aluminium Ring !! nice try but it is not real !!

The gsg 9 had a helmet with an outer edge bend, not an inner one like yours. It's easy to check on Google. Otherwise, yes, it looked like an M-38 helmet. You definitely have the wrong helmet. If you are sure that this is him, throw off a link here to photos of gsg 9 ammunition, including a helmet.
