    I really hope wes ball continues with this franchise and disney doesn’t split the movies up to different director. He is well versed in the lore, respects it and expands upon it. This movie was every bit as good as the trilogy that it follows up too. Definitely a lot of potential for this new trilogy.

  • @ykwtfgo

    @@amorojaz27 the rise of skywalker was easily one of the worst Star Wars films. JJ did alright when it comes to Star Trek but he easily helped butcher the sequel trilogy. There’s a lot of elements of lore he completely disregarded in the 2 movies he directed

  • @amorojaz27

    @@ykwtfgo a number of old school Star Trek fans really don't like his films, given how much they feel like Star Wars. If by lore, you mean the Expanded Universe, George Lucas himself always had the position that they were separate from the films.

  • @ykwtfgo

    @ykwtfgo

    @@amorojaz27 no, by lore I mean basic rules of the universe. You know, like a force user being stabbed in the stomach by a lightsaber resulting in death… like with Qui gon. Yet JJ made it so Rey was able to somehow force heal Kylo on the spot lol. Or “somehow palpatine returned” Clearly the guy wasn’t that much of a fan. That didn’t even had to do with long term plotting, that’s just basic lore

  • @amorojaz27

    @amorojaz27

    3 ай бұрын

    @@ykwtfgo he was too big a fan of the Original Trilogy. That's why "The Force Awakens" is basically "A New Hope" all over again. And if we're on the subject of lightsabers being automatically fatal, Darth Maul got sliced in half and dropped down a very deep pit, only to be alive and kicking in "The Clone Wars". I don't disagree that Rise of Skywalker is one the weakest films, but it does very little that wasn't done before in the franchise. It just does it very poorly.

    That was a great interview. So nice to be able to get long, thoughtful answers to questions as opposed to little soundbites here and there. Thank you Josh! P.S. The way "into" this movie that Wes found completely resonates with me. The time jump was a fantastic idea. I love the thought of seeing apes in their stone age and now bronze age. I love lost civilization stories and such. And I really, really love the whole adventure angle. War was really good but too dark for my tastes, so I completely agree with the refocus in tone. Plus an ape going on a straight up Campbellian hero's journey/quest is just precisely what I wanted to see without knowing I wanted to see it. So awesome.

    This is a good sign. When the creators are working with the community, I love this. I was a Star Wars fan and Rian Johnson went into arguments on the Last Jedi when many people just didn't like it. I already knew that film was in trouble. To see a director take the time to talk to a fan channel on KZread is light years ahead of that.

    Hey, I love the interview so much, but to be honest for new audiences who are not aware of the name "Wes Ball" they might not recognise him as THE director of the new movie haha, sadly most people are not watching credits nowadays. Maybe you could change the the title to "Director of Kingdom of the Apes..." something like that, so newcomers immediately know what they are getting here, Love your content bro :)

    Im interested to see the “New” direction this guy thinks he’s going in , I heard him say something to effect that the trilogy has gotten stale and there’s no where really to go with the plot, but I think he fails realize the Simian Flu plays a huge role in keeping humans and possibly putting them in the forefront of POTA , in my opinion he made a remake of the original just can’t admit to it lol either way it’s good he didn’t mess with the trilogy if he wasn’t up to the task

    Not sure how this is a remake when the main character is an ape and it's telling an entirely different story, but okay!

    @@Ape-Nationa remake in a cinematic sense there is explicitly remade scenes , a huge part why I love the trilogy is the lesser intelligent apes and how they behave and go about solving their problems , and how it presents the actors with a challenge of acting as an ultra intelligent ape

    I would’ve like to see a slightly dark anti hero movie with Cornelius , POTA hasn’t been a family adventure movie and it seems to me Wes Ball made just that, I believe the production companies desire to make these Franchise films that cover a large demographic played a role in this, Maze Runner of the Apes 😂🤦‍♂️ Still excited for some Ape Action nonetheless

    The original 1968 movie is pretty family friendly and genre-wise is very much a sci-fi adventure movie 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I have been quite optimistic but the more I hear the less settled I am. I don’t think he was the right choice. Granted Disney was never going to let it stay a more serious franchise, they want to make easy money, no matter what director was picked.

    Wes Ball is legit. Zelda is finally with the right filmmaker. He'd be on my shortlist for ThundrCats as well. Whereas Adam Wingard would be on my shortlist to never work again, because he has no artistic tastes whatsoever.

    Honestly proximus could be spun as less villainous than the movie kind of makes him out to be. Like he, I THINK, is the least villainous and yk violent and malicious villain of any of the last 3 movies. Like he wants yo PROGRESS and not even for selfish reasons, or at least that's not how it came off to me. Maybe he didn't care about ALL apes doing what humans did. But you can tell it was just the simple PROSPECT of flying or communicating vast distances, his head is that jigh in the clouds that the ends justify the means. With koba, I don't think he really thought about the ends at all. And the human villains are way more reactionary, but Proximus really could be looked at as someone who was maybe possibly just ahead of his time and very misguided

    Also idk if it was any inspiration even a little bit, but the look, and his whole way of unifying apes and removing their identity in the name of unity was very reminiscent of caesar from new vegas. Very inspired by the old world and the past and the water that gas long since passed under the bridge, blinding them to the present, in the name of making the past their future.
