I am very happy with mine. It is perfect for the small unexpected jobs. If I am on a large expected planned job, then I will have a full set of individual purpose built tools. If I need a quick versatile answer to a problem this often gets the call.

Absolutely love this Zyklop pocket tool. I've got the set of bits from Wera which comes with a Rapidaptor bit holder included and most of the time when I need some more leverage I do prefer using Rapidaptor on my Zyklop pocket in favour of bundled bit-extender.

It is nice for my german ears to hear you say "Vera" correctly. Many english speakers get tricked into saying sth like "wearer". Now if you could punch "Zyklop" into google translate some time and listen to the german way of saying it, you'd be next level. Thanks for reviewing this tool. I just found out about this tool and I really want it! It looks so compact and it’ll probably help me when I’m installing PC fans and I have very limited range bc of the gpu and small cases. Great video!

It is compact. It may work really well for some of those applications. Another option might be a flexible shaft screw driver from a good brand. 👍🏻

Surely a ball bearing built into one side of the square would be able to lock in both sockets AND bits if it protruded through both sides of the wall. Big oversight by wera there, I hope they release an updated model Currently I use a stanley fatmax ratcheting screwdriver with kincrome bits. The bits lock in so you can carry one extra bit, and you can lock the ratchet, but it only holds 6 bits in the handle and doesn't do sockets. The handle insert falls out all the time too when using the tool because of the twist motion

Yes, I think Wera could certainly make this happen. I like some aspects of this tool but have since moved on from it due to the magnetic bit holder not being strong enough. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Sounds to me like you want the regular zyklop. Only has a square drive head, but it has mechanical retention, and comes with a rapidaptor. Plus a larger selection of sockets. Im 90% sure the heads are interchangable too, so you could take the regular zyklop head and pair it with the pocket body for bit storage, then put a square drive extension and rapidaptor in the extention slot. It's a bit of a project, but if mechanical retention is your desk breaker then that would be the way to go.

Yeah that is certainly a possibility, one I have considered exploring. It is a decent tool but isn’t the right fit for me. But it would be interesting to play with a version with the swapped head. 👍🏻

I think the reason for the magnets, is because there's physically not enough room in the thickness of the drive between the 1/4 and 3/8 drive to make them locking.

I have the Zyklop and also have a Rapidaptor screwdriver with extension, and you are correct, the Rapidaptor doesn't work with the magnet very well, as it pulls out (I tried). Anyway the Zyklop is for when you need a very light, compact multipurpose tool. If you need a locking system, Wera has all the Rapidaptor tools, which work great.

I'm looking to buy a small tool set that i can easily take in and out of my storage to do simple maintenance on my bikes, and from what i've gathered, both the wera zyklop pocket and the tool check plus have the functionality I need. Do you have any insight as to which one i should buy? the tool check plus seems to hold more bits than i need, but at the cost at (probably) smaller handle, hence smaller amount of torque that i can put into it?

The tool check plus would give you everything you would need in terms of bits plus extra. If you would like something compact that is designed for bikes, that would be easy to take along on rides even, then maybe you could check out the PB Swiss Bike Tool (PB 470). That might be a great option for you as well. 👍🏻

The pocket set is a very nice addition to the Wera tool check plus because it's overall bigger and has 3/8 drive I replaced the 8, 10 and 13mm on the pocket set with 13, 17 and 19 because the Tool check already has these. Having the two bigger Hex sockets, a second 13mm and more torque and ergonomics really helps extend the capability of the tool check plus to some bigger stuff

What u use the 13, 17 and 19mm for? Automotive?

I had a wera that had the locking function about that size and the shaft that locked the bit fell out lost the ball bearing and the spring. I'll take the magnet thanks. Still trying to figure out how to get it warranted.

Sorry to hear that. Depending on where it was purchased, you may want to start there. Wera should take care of that. The magnet hasn't been an issue for me yet, I haven't had a bit or socket stick behind. But my preference would have been a locking bit holder. I have one and I use it all the time, but not being able to lock the ratchet is the ONE thing that drives me crazy. I'm was watching this video hoping there was a lock and I just missed it.

Works well with Wiha Centrofix locking adapter.. because you have to pull to release ✌🏽

If I am understanding your question correctly, you are asking if this will replace a ratchet and a screwdriver. It would to some extent. I am positive that even in a DIY setting you will find situations where a ratchet would be better or a screwdriver. That isn’t to say that this isn’t useful, but I wouldn’t necessarily think of it as a true replacement for both tools. 👍🏻 Hope that helps and thanks for watching.

You can't fit lock in system if you have such thin walls for 1/4 socket and vice versa for locking ball for 3/8. But lack of locking of the ratchet is a major con. Like you've said rapidaptor would be pointless here with retention only in the rapidaptor.

I agree that the thin walls may have been part of the issue with the locking mechanism. But one would think that if the locking was top priority, then they could have worked out some solution. Easy for me to say though. And so far the magnets have been sufficient for me but for some people and some tasks it is a no-go. Thanks for commenting and watching. 👍🏻

@@garnerreviews There's a definite benefit to mechanical lockout but there's no space to do it in. You'd weaken the thin walled shaft whatever you'll do. Even if you go the route of fancy sleeve pulling out of the base to push some detent into the socket and some shaft that would come out of the base to push from the socket to the outside. Even in that rube Goldberg style of actuation you'd weaken already thin walls. Even if you do tolerance tight so that the sleeve/shaft would be fairly tight you still can't count on it when it comes to thin wall stress. Because it's still would be a loose tolerance as it has to remain movable

@@garnerreviews Sure, that's one way to go but I actually like the ability not to play around with adapters and having both. Not sure what's more important to me. The locking mechanism or not needing adapters in such a tool. The only thing that actually bothers me is lack of locking direction of the ratchet. Also most of my sockets are 1/4 not 3/8 then again not that big of an issue with more of an carry only this tool type of usage.

Its actually quite bad to not have full lock. Sometimes you cant do a job without it.

That is definitely an issue that I mentioned in my review. 👍🏻 Wera missed that and I think may have turned off a decent group of people from purchasing it.

I am currently upgrading my screwdrivers. After a lot of research I decided to go with the Wera on most of them. Since I don't use a ratcheting screwdriver that often I was thinking of buying this hibrid 8009. After I've watched some clips on KZread I saw that it doesn't have locked position for the ratcheting mechanism... For that I have to say pass. I am considering other ratcheting brands since both normal ratchet screwdrivers that Wera makes have a huge wobble (from what I saw). For the stubby I went with the Wera both normal and ratcheting both with magazines.

I think that was a smart decision. I still like this tool but I don't think it is worth what they are currently asking for it. If you want a ratcheting screwdriver there are some great options from companies like PB Swiss, Hazet, Vessel among others. 👍🏻

Magnetic retention function is a deal killer for me.

I completely understand. It isn't my preferance but the good news is that I haven't had a bit or socket come off yet. So far it has held everything fine. But again I really would like the security of a locking bit holder, especially in tight working situations where it would be a nightmare to retrieve a bit or socket. Try it with an extension and a heavy socket under a sink lol. It saves trips back to the truck. Thats what it does for me. Its definitely a spoil yourself purchase. The quality is consistent with the price

I love Wera but I think $118. Dollars is to much for this one, I have several Wera sets I use them often and love the quality but the the price I think there are better options with better versatility. My other sets are in hard plastic case and they fit in my pocket.

I hear ya, I feel that this should probably be in the sub 100 dollar range. More like $80 or so. Not a bad tool but you can get some nice kits even from Wera for around this cost or a little more. What kits do you like that you carry edc? Thanks for watching and sharing. 👍🏻

This thing is just overpriced for what it gives ! There are many alternatives even with Wera which are more versatile and less pricey !

I like this tool but I tend to agree with you. While it is useful I'm hesitate lately to recommend it at its current price point.

Is the pocket a 1/4 drive or a 3/8s? Looks good not sure if I should get this or the normal zyklops I been looking at

So it is a 1/4” drive bit holder built into a 3/8” socket drive. So you would need 3/8” sockets for this tool. 👍🏻
