    Non synthetic for break-in, change the oil first 15 min and let cooldown 1hr for heat cycle. Pour more non synthetic run for couple hours,then go synthetic. My 2000watts predator generator was used 24/7 for 4 month in huracan Maria in PR, still running like a champ after 5 years. My first AutoZone 4300 generator ran for 8 years ,1 month 24/7 same break-in and sold to get the predator cause gas was getting expensive .also still running great. Oil is life!!

That generator lasted 3 years from June 20th 2021 to February 19th 2024 and only changed the oil once and Spark plug one time too. Yes I know I'm horrible 😅

It overloads exactly over 1900 watts. Voltage drops to 99V for split second , goes back to 118 steady. I ran 1950 watts., overload light blinks and after 15 sec, it cuts off. I really liked the idea that I could order all the individual components from a company with an American presence. Their offices are right here, and the focus on generators. Harbor Freight as a company is an importer of thousands of products and has no real support other than swapping out units when you purchase an extended warrantee. This company reminds me of Sears where you could purchase the parts for their products years after the warrantee expired to fix it yourself. BTW, I do shop at HF, but something like this isn't a throwaway tool...

  • @DansWay

    @DansWay

    2 жыл бұрын

    You have two options: You can dump it out, or add fuel stabilizer which helps to keep the gas from going bad. The ‘run till dry’ feature keeps the carburetor clean which is very useful as well. I also fire mine up every month or two and let it run for 15 or so just to keep things running and to know that it is ready to go.

    @@DansWay yes, I installed it yesterday. I have installed it on top, in the middle, above that black cover where it clips in, between gas cap and spark plug cover. I tried to avoid top install, so it’s not exposed to the sun, but that was the only place I could think of without major modifications or cutting. I ran the wires thru the sleeve that was on the spark plug cable , then followed breather hose, then up, drilled very small hole on the top, next to the edge of the spark plug cover. Any extra I zip tied to the breather hose. Wire goes along the gas tank on air intake side, so no heat issue there. Looks good in that location and it does not interfere with the carry handle. Plus it’s orange color meter so it blends in perfectly. I just used a good double tape to mount it.

    I can’t imagine they hurting anything, except for the burnt residue from it, and the potential for the startup to take a few more pulls or something. Goal there is to lubricate the cylinder walls. You could also just leave the switch off and pull the cord a few times really hard to splash oil up on the cylinder walls from the crank case.

    That would be really interesting to know! My best _GUESS_ is that the first generator to power up becomes in essence the 'master' and the second unit started sees the waveform of the first and basically matches it, much like a micro-inverter does. This makes me wonder what keeps them from oscillating back and forth... If my hypothesis is true, then multiple units should work together, but step loads, and other balancing issues could come up. I still don't understand how two identical units communicate enough to be close to balanced. My best guess there is that they allow the voltage to droop down under load, so that two identical units will operate at similar loading if they are both looking at the output voltage. Anyone know better than my guesses?

    Most modern, small portable generators are grounded through their frame and built to conduct current from away from critical areas (like the gas tank) but the user manual clearly states this unit has to have an external ground to operate safely. Yes, it requires an external ground even when NOT hooked into another electrical system i.e. even when not wired into a building’s fuse box. I would have expected that to be in the product info listed on Amazon - but it isn’t. So what is required to ground this unit safely? The manual specifies a grounding wire of at least 12 AWG but does not give any other specifications except to refer one to local regulations. Well, the NEC (National Electrical Code) requires: a grounding rod - can be steel, coated in copper or zinc - that is a minimum of 8 ft long, sunk 8ft into the earth. That seemed a bit excessive to me for this tiny little generator. The consensus among internet sites pertaining to portable generators appears to be that a grounding rod should be a copper or zinc coated rod at least 4 feet long. Sites vary on whether that needs to be sunk four feet down... Your thouhjts

  • @DansWay

    @DansWay

    3 жыл бұрын

    Wow, you have done some research! I think at a corporate level, and in a society where lawsuits are so common, these manufacturers are going to provide the most conservative 'suggestions' and leave the end-user responsible to follow or ignore the pages of warnings found in the manuals. Personally (and I really mean just myself), my understanding is that the power output from a generator is 'floating' with respect to ground, so as long as I don't create a path back to earth ground, I could 'theoretically' touch either output lead (hot or neutral) and not get shocked, because there is no return path back to the generator (antenna effects aside). If I earth-ground the chassis (which isn't? connected to the neutral connection), then it would protect the frame from becoming electrically hot, just like any three-wire connected appliance uses the ground connection to 'earth' ground the outside chassis which protects the user from a random internal fault which would connect 'hot' to the frame. All that said, I don't have any particular concern about being shocked by this if I don't use a ground connection every time I start it up, assuming it isn't parked in the rain, or otherwise mechanically damaged in some way. BTW: I assume no responsibility for how anyone who watches my channel or reads my comments and follows my example. All warnings and cautions in the manual should be respected and followed. This is just Doing Things Dan's Way, which isn't necessarily the right way...

    I saw your rant on Amazon too and giving it a terrible review all over the ground screw....good grief. How about we review the product as it operates and last as because the the ground screw issue is "on you" as it's clearly visible in the image. Now back to the reason why. Not that anyone actually grounds their generators (I've seen it maybe twice in my life and even then not done well enough to solve the issue) but having a ground is actually a good thing. Maybe the manufacture acknowledges more metal in the design but the fact existing is the was an internal short to metal you are going to wish you had that ground as a "no ground" generator isn't going to solve your issue. Good fix your review on Amazon. It's not valid and based on a rant that is "on you" for not studying the photos better.

    @@scottstockman5132 Well, living in San Diego, I don't have a lot of freezing conditions available to comment on that detail... For the sake of occasional backup power you can't go wrong with these lower cost options vs. a Honda. If I was a contractor, I would spend the extra for the Honda. Which of the generators did you get? I added a propane / natural-gas kit to my 3800W unit and am testing it now. There will be a video on this topic eventually.

    I got a Champion 2000 watt duel fuel inverter generator and it is better than adding a propane conversion. It will still be under warranty. I have now run it for 38 hours and I love it. Can run for 14 hours without economy mode on propane.

    Ah man, sorry you had such a bad experience with your generator. Shouldn't be so hard to get service, but when the whole unit is only worth $400, new parts + labor could easily out-cost buying a new one...

    Had the same problem. Was running loud for a minute and the green light was flashing. Then I couldn't get it started. This lead to me cleaning caked on carbon off off the screen on the spark accelerator. After that, it started up.

    People. Please do not buy Wen . I have one and still waiting for warranty parts. A part. Inside gets hot ,blows and shuts generator off after only 5 mins running. Wen does not returns unless the repair cost is more than half the total cost. Mine is at a service shop still waiting for a part. Eco mode is for power under 1000 Watts off eco is for more than 1000watts
