    Finally an honest video from someone who isn't trying to impress us with his knowledge. I was gonna buy this today from Amazon, but now I'm not sure. I travel a lot from South Texas all the way up into the mountains. And if I have to make this adjustment each time, no way. So now I gotta learn if this is the same problem with all small generators.

    If you are referring to rejetting the carb, then yes, you have to for high altitudes. This is the case for all carbureted engines. The air is thinner up there and requires different jetting. Computer controlled fuel I jection corrects for air/fuel ratio, but carbs don't. Good luck finding a fuel injected small generator.

    Excellent product review. Good info on the High Altitude conversion. Looks like it can be a bit of a pain. I would have to switch back and forth in my situation so, thank you for adding that to your video.

    Thanks, I have wondered if the high altitude conversion would be trouble when camping at sea level but so far, that has never been an issue. Have no intention of ever doing a change-back.

    I sent an email to WEN to complain about my 2350W generator failing to run my air conditioner. It took a few weeks for them to answer. I bought the Honda. But anyway, they finally responded. First they answered: “Make sure the oil is coming halfway up the crankcase threads…if oil is fine, try bypassing the sensor…follow the wire from the part where it is imbedded in the crankcase to the connector - disconnect the connector… or it could be a fuel or air flow issue…or a vacuum relief valve… or check the spark plug.. etc. ” That was totally useless advice. I removed a side panel but there was no way to identify or find that yellow wire or access the crankcase and do what they wanted me to try. I replied as much. Their other suggestions simply were not relevant. I said so. A few more weeks passed. They then replied: “…I think a 11000 btu AC maybe a little too much for model 56235i, the generator can only produce 1900 rated watts…” End of story. Did I mention I bought the Honda?

    Manual says runtime is 5.7 hours at half-load for the 56235i. Their website says 10.5 hours on a quarter load. Which doesn't make sense. Contacted Wen and they said the 10.5 hours runtime at a quart-load is correct. So I ordered one from them, supposed to be delivered next week. Hope it's correct or I will return it. I have a 5k BTU AC that is only 410 watts and want to get the highest runtime possible.

    Don't forget you can probably find an extended run gas gap & tank. Then you'll have over 24 hours like I do on my Honda eu2000i.

    I have the smaller Wen 2000. I run it in Texas and it will run a 5k window unit with no problems. I went on vacation up to South Dakota this August then to Yellowstone park and ended up staying in between yellowstone South and Grand Tetons in a parking lot by a campground. I ran my generator to recharge my Bluetti so I can continue to run my 12v fridge. I didn't notice any difference in the way the generator ran. I did not run an AC unit so it didn't have as much load as it would in Texas . Have you tried it without the elevation kit to see how it runs ?

    No. Since my home is at 6700 feet elevation I ordered the high elevation kit before even first adding fuel to it. Have never yet run the thing at below 5000 feet but changing the jet back is likely something I will never do.

    Is that the "super quiet" model? It's as loud as the giant generator my next door neighbor had used after a hurricane & the power was out for 9 days! Good grief, I can't have one that loud where I'm at right now.

    Did a homeboy loudness check of my Wen using a db ap on my phone. I'm no sound technician but My phone spoke to me and -- At 2 ft from the phone me talking normally registered 63-67 db. At 6 ft from the Wen running on eco mode it registered between 66 to 70 DB, and at 25 ft from the generator on eco it was 76-80 DB. With the eco mode off, at 25 ft it registered 82 DB. My guess is your neighbor's giant generator blows my little Wen right out of the water.

    Where can I get this high altitude kit? Can you please copy and paste a link for me? Also I will be going to my nearest home depot to find myself the 8 gauge stranded copper grounding wire. How long does that need to be and is there waterproof ones? What are the specifications for the grounding rod and how do I ask for that at home depot? This is my first time buying one and I want to make sure everything is right.

    Contact Wen on line. Wire 3-4 feet should be just fine depending on your preferred distance from the gen. My rod was simply a short length of 1/2inch re-bar from home depot.

    Could not find information on the jet orifice size compared to stock. Is it smaller or larger? I assume with less oxygen you want less fuel. So i will assume the high altitude jet have a smaller orifice. So a smaller orifice will it make the generator run longer on a gas tank than stock? Of course it will not generate the same amount of watts (loss of performance).

  • @burromeister

    @burromeister

    3 жыл бұрын

    It probably does have a smaller orifice but I never bothered to compare the two. Never ran it with the factory jet. All I know is with the jet changed the WEN works great at high altitudes here. As far as gas consumption improvement or not, I see it as hardly something of measurable significance.

    1) The Genny is being run with the exhaust aimed at the left interior wall of the garage, essentially filling up the garage with DEADLY Carbon Monoxide!! NOT good and it shows a very dangerous error that may be continued overnight!! The 4 people killed by running generators during hurricane Laura just days ago should have headed the bold warnings in their Owners Manuals. Watching the main jet being clumsily changed makes me wonder if we were meant to see a novice R&R operation, especially when the fuel valve was NOT turned ON to check for leaks/weeps BEFORE the outer cover was screwed on. The float bowl drain screw also points directly at the ignition coil, blocking screwdriver access. I say this because portable generators are not for everybody in that there can be expensive mistakes made by the uninformed -like- using a 100 feet of 16Ga extension cord(S) to power a refrigerator and coffee pot where the voltage drop caused current rise will certainly damage the inverter and/or the refrigerator's compressor motor. 2) The main jet "size" refers to the replacement jet's tiny axial fuel metering hole that is smaller in diameter by just a few thousandths of an inch to obtain the leaner "on-load" fuel mixture needed for the thinner air at higher altitudes . . . so you wouldn't "see" the difference. 3) I have the 56200i 2KW Genny with 24 hours on it and it's marvelous during power outages, running our 21cu-ft Energy Star refrigerator and 6cu-ft chest freezer plus TV/SatDish and LED lights! (Started in the correct order).
