Only because of the volume of Shaq cards...imagine if we had numbered auto RC's of Shaq from the early 90's...today they would be worth thousands. That's why rare modern serial numbered cards will be worth so much in the future.

KD and Chet have the similar build, KD has outlasted his stay in the league so if Wemby can keep healthy he might be one of the greats. His rookie year was pretty good even though their team sucks. Prospecting will always be a risk. I wouldn’t dump a bunch of money on his stuff. Either way, every card will go down in price if it isn’t short printed or if it isn’t an auto.

Good discussion Dustin! I'd need more than a few lines to discuss. I do remember when LJ and Matumbo cards were trading for 20 bucks in '92 and Classic had an exclusive on Shaq in the fall of 1992 but UD countered with the "trade card." You hit the nail on the head with the sheer number of RCs back then and today and how many are being submitted for grading such that demand may never catch up with the supply? Also, remember all those Shaq Promo's? They were going for righteous bucks and now? I would guess the few dollar bin; except for the auto versions. Last. I don't collect Bkb but in general I find it exhausting to even try to "time" the market or speculate for investment. I'm right now selecting the cards for my 2023 TSC set while you speak - I find it relaxing and gratifying. Take care buddy and keep the discussions coming! BTW, did sub to your news letter. 👍

I dont know the print runs from the early 90s to now, but if Topps does what they claim and 10x the hobby, thats alot less cards for us than there is at the moment. I dont know about 10x, but if anyone can really grow the hobby, Fanatics has that ability. It also doesn't hurt that we have some amazing players coming out of Europe, how many Europeans are chasing Wembanyama that could care less who Shaq was? I believe the sports that are VERY popular worldwide( not just basketball) makes the hobby a game changer compared to the 90s. Fun topic, keep up the good work SPD!

Shaq was awesome 👌...great comparison and agree with the supply and demand argument. I would buy Steph Curry RC auto's right now, since they have a fixed supply and he has established himself as an all time great. Seems like he will only appreciate from here on out.

I’ve been saying this since the Wemby hype started. The hobby has shown over the years that it doesn’t care about big men long term. Wemby has very little chance of becoming as good as guys like Shaq and Olajuwon, and the hobby doesn’t care about their cards. There is no chance that it cares about Wemby in 20-30 years.

My dad bought me a Hoops Shaq RC for my 4th birthday. He was a principal at the time and bought it from a student for $20. It has depreciated😂😂😂

Shaq was such a beast. I watched him in a college game and constant triple teams... he looked like a man among boys at any level.

@@ACD1994 Who also does commercials I'm sick of ... such as when he's chosen for a little kid's hoops team and he yells "YES! I've still got it!" Come to think of it, even Jeter, who presumably has tens of millions in the bank, does an ad where he's a pinch-hitter for an adult sandlot team. That's all over the TV currently. They're more tolerable when the player is sorta poking fun at themselves in retirement.. Shaq though, you'd think he's rich enough he doesn't have to do all those product pitches. Maybe he just wants to keep his name and face front and center.

Wembayama needs to win minimum 3 championships in order to at least remain at this value. But even if he wins 3, his cards will go down. Shaq has 4, and his cards are normally priced. Wemba is a joke. 0 titles.

Problem is Shaq was and is a real deal. Wendys is just a hype
