Welding Up The Rally Car Firewall and Wiring Harness/Fuse Box Reroute | GC8 Rally Car Rebuild

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Finally back with a new video! Sorry for the huge delay, life has been crazy busy and I've just been struggling to even work on the car. I finally sealed up all the unused holes in the firewall, started adding a couple of the many bulkhead connectors we will we using in the future as well as rerouting the harness.
The biggest thing that needed to be done was the fuse box reroute through the firewall, the old routing went through the wheel well and was prone to damage from being unprotected if the wheel well liner came out. With the new route through the firewall, we shouldn't have to worry about any of it being damaged in the future.
Some of the stuff I use on the channel to help out with the builds (some amazon affiliate and some are just random companies with great products!)

Man been waiting on the next video, these videos convinced me to by a 2000 RS 2.5. On that note I'm dealing with a bunch of rust and re-watching this series on videos have made it easier to wrap my head around welding on the car.

As soon as you mentioned bulkhead fittings I had PTSD flashbacks to measuring all of my brake lines and everything for my car. I actually really like the battery bulkhead fittings. That might be something I do down the road also. Super Solid Video!

I've got a '87 MR2 I run in SCCA Rallycross and some events at the FIRM Rally School. I've been fighting electrical issues for the last couple seasons so I finally took the jump and rewired the car. I'm finishing up this week. First time doing anything like this its a brutal job. Good work on the subie lots of great teams running them down here in FL.

I applaud your effort, and work sealing the firewall. We use FOIL HVAC tape. A few strips over the hole from both sides, sticky to sticky in the hole gap. Works great. Light, fast and no grinding or welding fumes.

That’s a good idea that I’ve seen people do in the past, I’ll keep it in mind for some of the smaller holes I still have but may end up not using.

Been following you for a few years now, great series of video's well put together with great content and not in your face at all.... We're putting a gravel car together and are having some condensation issues in the car when we get into deep damp valleys.( humidity around 95 to 100% ) I noticed you guys always seem to be out in very wet conditions but rarely seem to be effected by this. We're running the original heater core with a bigger fan and have SIlca bags in the dash area. Did hear of a car that was running an RC jet motor as a demister but he said it was very noisy even with coms. Also tried running different size air ducting .... Any tips

I know that from the factory Subaru ran the brake and fuel lines through the interior, probably for rust prevention, but I am kinda surprised that you're able to keep the fuel lines inside the car when building a race car. That's usually prohibited.

The FIA has specific guidelines that you have to follow if you do run them through the cabin, like a it has to be metallic outside shell and no fittings in the cabin unless they’re bulkhead connections. Most rally cars run them through the cabin with the massive amount of abuse the underside of the car goes through every event.

@@DirtyGarage rally cars are AWd technically although on google it says they are 4wd Because you cannot switch to rwd only and the center diff has a certain amoint of slip so you dont have 100% locked Please correct me if I am wrong I am trying to understand because Gymkhana cars of ken block are all AWD and they have drivetrains and transmissions like a rally car
