Nice rig. I just started out with a half ton and a 145 Hobart and torches. I now just bought a trailblazer 251nt with the Onan 20 and a Miller suitcase mig. Picked it up for 2k$. I now definitely need a 1 ton.

Definitely stick with it. I’ve wanted my own rig since I got out of school. Spent time working a stable job for another company though. I’ve seen a few people try to get a company going after finishing school. You don’t know enough coming out, just the minimum. Better to learn and improve while being paid than risking everything over small mistakes.

Thanks for a great video of organizing a welding truck. I bought an older Freightliner FL80 tandem axle railroad service truck with an IMT knuckleboom crane. It has similar cabinets to yours and I look forward to setting it up similarly to yours.

I'm the same way usually with the flux core vs stick. I'll run flux core when I need to but prefer stick in mostly all the situations I've come into lately. There was one project I was on where I did choose to run flux core over stick but that's because I was building a big entry way outside because it was too big for my shop. A few guys I've worked with have tried to run flux core over 6010/6011. I don't know if it was their old junky ln25's or if they are all like that but it took them way longer to set up and it was really finicky. It would be good for repairing like a ring turret on a track hoe or something like that but for most things I'm running stick.

Get a rod heater for your low hi rods when doing something overhead/critical, they stay dry but they soak up hydrogen just from the air. You earned my subscription today.

I hate ln feeders too just get in inverter multiprocess machine and run it off the generator.......they're super cheap and light nowadays then you can get rid of the feeder and the scratch start rig....and feeders dont run as good out of position in my opinion. Another game changer for me was the hypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutter with the built in compressor I dont even carry bottles anymore........nice job man I like the channel

I personally like Harris stuff for my torch but nice torch gear! I also have a generic harbor freight torch that I also kind of like actually lol

I agree about the black stallion gloves. I use the same ones. They fit great and last way longer than other brands. I have to say, you don’t need all those torches. I use an LN 25 way more often than stick. I guess you aren’t doing any full pens or heavy welds.

My dad and I run a welding shop together, but since im still young i dont have my own rig yet so he lets me borrow his. the rig we use for our portables is a red 05 f250 6.0 lariat 4x4 crew cab long bed, it still has the bed but what we do is we have a skid. so there are 2 cabinets on each side, the welder sits in between. its a pipe pro 304 diesel. ontop of the cabinets we have an aluminum rack with 3/4" clearance lights because it looks cool. on the back we have our oxy and propane (we dont use acetylene because we just rarely have to burn that hot) and a fold steel table with a vise. truck has served him well for over 10 years and still now that were both working together. But we actually have 2 pipe pro 304. so technically we have 2 rigs in a way. when his truck is down or the welder in his truck is down we have a small utility trailer that holds other pipe pro with a few tabs and bolt down holes so we can just slide it in. we only use it as a back up but its there if he goes out on a job and i need to go out on my own at the same time i can hook up and just go. it doesnt have cabinets in the trailer which i want to put in as a skid but for now just throwing everything down along side it works good for now.

Hate to say it, but as a mechanic who picked up welding about 5 years ago, there is damn good money in doin both. We called those bent tips bulwark tips in the shipyards xD

Nice out fit I do a lot of railing and gates and security bars and doors but personally I rather stick welding over wire can do a lot more with stick than wire I'm planning to get a lincoln 210mp for aluminum but that's as far as I'll go with wire

Nice setup! Ln has its place definitely, but I got a small 20 lb wire welder for kind of cheap from harbor freight to plug into my bobcat 225 and I would say I highly recommend! Stick is better for anything 1/8th and thicker IMO but for thinner projects wire is nice. BTW I also run mobile welding for around 3 years now

Nice video! Get some 2097 p 100 filters for that 3m. They have an active charcoal in them so you dont smell any of the fumes. Their better than the ones you have currently

the 2297 are an advanced 2097, they both have the charcoal. It's the 2091's that are junk for welding.

I know the wire feeder is a finicky PITA, but that is an ideal suitcase. The wire is prone to rusting if not used, and new wire can also have a film or scale, both of these cause wormholes and clog up liners. So the key is to clamp an abrasive cloth (actual welding product) before the drive rollers to clean the wire before it is fed into the liner. You may suddenly pick up a bucket or a job where you need to pour the caulk to her.

I just finished welding school I'm 28 years old. I got a job a cement plant.. but it won't last that long. Anybody know of places hiring .. I learned flux and stick structure welding.. any help.

just bought a 1995 f-superduty regular cab, flatbed, dually with shop built davit crane. . crank no start...1800$ at auction....hoping i can get it going. anyone out there with wrenching experience on 7.3? all glow plugs were open so i have a set of new plugs and valve gaskets. plan to disconnect fuel line and run off a bucket of clean diesel with sea foam mixed in. also got two new batteries. topped up coolant and did a oil and air filter change. found a huge rat nest in the air filter box. topside creeper came in the mail - once that is together i will have at it weather permitting. winter sucks with no garage.

I wish I could have a truck like this, but the crack goblins would rip it apart overnight in my neighborhood...

I lucked out. the truck belonged to a man who was my friend when I was a kid. His name was Sambo, he was a mechanic who bought parts from my dads store. always super nice to 10 y/o me. fast forward 16 year, he dies of brain cancer, unfortunately. he was a beloved member of the Brooksville community. A year after that I purchased the truck from his widow for only $6000. it was in disarray, and im in it about 16k as of now and 100's of man hours. but I have no regrets

I don’t like the trailblazer. Has no AC capability and I went through 2 motherboards and 3 fuel pumps on my 302. I ran a 325 for years no issues. I favor the bobcat over the two but the bobcat doesn’t have the arc reach capability for my Miller suitcase feeder. $2500 is a steal!! Those are $10,000.00 new

Please don't sandblast the crane. I hope this isn't to late. I used to work on heavy equipment professionally and I seen alot of "restored equipment in our shop that was just blasted and painted and the sand got Into everything and made things worse. Just take a good electric or air sander to it and paint it.

What are dog clamps? I'm not familiar of that term.

A dog is an L shaped piece of steel you weld onto a plate, and you drive a wedge under the slot over another plate, so you can fit two pieces of plate flush. You'll see them a lot, depending what you do.

@@cameronbartlett856 Anthony's dog uses the screw of the c clamp to push the item into alignment. you can then knock it off with a hammer blow-only tack welded on.

The Tillman 750 is hands down the best all around stick/wire welding glove. they are not like bear paws on your hand for tig and all around the Tillman 24c try them once and you will throw away even your brand new black stallions

you tack the c clamp to one side of the weld and use the screw to push the other side flush for welding. then you can knock the dog off with a hammer blow. used to make a warped plate get flush with another..

I can never remember to charge batteries. compared to Metabo corded tools Milwaukee quality just isn't to par. I have a very small Mikita grinder that I like but Metabo is #1 for me

As a production welder, mig is definitely faster, you just need antispatter and a lot of it, the anitspatter wax is best for keeping your tip and shroud free from spatter, just heat it up a little then dip it in and all the shit just falls right off. But as someone who welds 12hrs a day all week long, for a mobile welder arc would definitely be better, just because there’s so much less shit to go wrong and less consumables to worry about.

Great truck young man, sadly that kind of set up is no good here in the UK because it rains to much, is too damp and generally not dry enough. Tools go rusty very quickly here so most people use vans. I use an old livestock trailer as a mobile workshop. Plandemic, 100% correct!

If you just keep your Rods dry the rest of the tools can be kept from rusting by spraying or wiping a coat of WD-40 on them before putting them away. (CLP is another REALLY good rust inhibitor used for cleaning firearms but, works very well coating tools with a rag soaked in the stuff.) Works really well on Sockets and such. Most of your hand clamps wont rust anyway and screw clamps again a little WD-40 coating on all of them after each use will prevent most of that rust. Unless your boxes are leaking an excessive amount of water into the boxes anyway. Theres places here in the US that have tons of rain as well and then places like where i live where if you dont like the weather just wait a minute and it will change for you.

@@Demonlord468 l look after my gear and rods. WD40 is very poor l find because it evaporates fast compared to a diesel soaked rag. Clamps can and do go rusty because like any tool they wear so every thing gets a wipe over. I doubt there is county in the entire USA that gets the rain we do in the UK but l am happy to be proven wrong. Its a very damp atmosphere here too. Regular rain, dew, condensation all find a way in. Plus driving on wet roads throws up mist other roads users cannot avoid. For guns l use a mixture of new ATF and diesel. Its thin enough to spray or wipe on and keeps them clean and well protected. Another reason to have van and not a service truck is it provides a dry working space and somewhere to escape the weather. This hasn't been too bad for rain yet, but it could change anytime. This week so far has been wet and dry but more rain is due again today and into the weekend. Top regards from soggy Skipton, North Yorkshire, England?
