So after realising the only time I drive this car is when I wanna get a little back end skid going, and with the LSD that was already fitted to the car not giving me exactly what I wanted (it would open up sometimes and make it quite unpredictable), I went about sourcing a dirt cheap welded medium case diff for my 328i and fitting it so I could skid a bit easier and get more control whilst drifting. The diff we fitted is a 2.93 ratio medium case differential out of a factory 328i, so it was a straight bolt in. Happy days. Probably a really dumb idea but hey ho, that's what life is about.

drifting's fine , but don't do speeds with it. Differential is for a reason , easy to loose control without it.

idiot hahah i welded my diff and drove 130 KM/H on wet roads. Differential has nothing to do with high speeds. A differential changes tire speeds on turning corners. you just have to not go insanely fast in a corner in wet conditions. You can perfectly drive at 200 KM/H straight roads or on dry conditions go high speed turns. You can even do touge runs with it (if its dry!) Learn the diff first before commenting
You own a Daily, a track weapon, classic (slow) restoration project, little ripper weekend toy ... Just need a single car recovery transit with a dash stack 👌

4.55 welded diff in my e36(318is) was a lot of fun, id suggest trying to track down something with a short ratio if you plan on skidding a lot more, makes throttle response alot snappier

She's legit! I love this oem+ street slider! Maybe get a better limited slip for drifting so you dont have to run the welded diff!

Doing my first weldie soon. Hoping I enjoy it as much as you seem to! I have spent money on decent LSDs in other cars but for an E36 it's hard to justify when the cars worth a few hundred bucks haha.

I think a 2.93 is very long. I used my original 3.15 welded in my 325 & i changed to a 3.73 medium case now. Works a lot better, can use more gears. What's your experience?
