Welcome To The Extraordinary City of Varna Bulgaria 🇧🇬

Welcome to the extraordinary city of Varna in Bulgaria.
Join me as we explore the streets of Varna in Bulgaria and go back in time to an era that fascinated me growing up in the West..
We enjoy the typical Bulgarian breakfast Banitsa and delve into a culture that is both rich and diverse.
Lets meet some locals and have some fun, from a former model, to locals that feel they are stuck in time.
If you enjoy adventure videos from the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, then grab your vodka, some zakuskas and join me as we explore this extraordinary city of Varna in Bulgaria.
Thank you to all my KZread Members and Patreons for your support and for helping make this channel what it is!

I came across this series of videos by accident. I am glad I did because Justin has produced some really informative videos about the various locations in Eastern Europe. What I like about Justin's video is his down-to-earth style presentation and the way he connects with the people he interviews. My favourites are the ones from Bulgaria, particularly the city of Varna. Indeed these videos bring back memories of my visits to Varna in 2007, 2008, and 2017. I actually stayed in Varna for a week back in June 2008. Well done, Justin for these travel videos!

Lovely video! ❤️ Just a couple of things - Varna is the third largest city in Bulgaria( Plovdiv is second), and our cheese has nothing to do with feta, we have a lot more variety and it’s much better. Also, please do not emphasize so much on the Turkish influence - it is undoubtedly there, but our ancestors did a great job of maintaining our traditions(our folk music is very unique, it is nothing like the Turkish). Next time be sure to check Mangera, it has the best food in Varna🥰

really? So I should be traveled south America as I visited Serbia, bosnia, romania, macedonia, even Croatia! and it is not only food tradition ... Any person can see Turkish tradition in these lands... so your stupid theory (500 years slavery under Ottoman) becomes bullshit. this is why many bilgarians try to deny Turk influence on their culture... Actually we balkan Turks lived under slavery of Ottoman empire for 500 years. At least Bulgarish man had a right to become Doctor, Butcher, Veterinarian, Teacher etc, but we Balkan Turks did not! do not tell me your fake history !

As you said...we..the bulgarians were 5 centuries under turkish slavery. When the Turkish authorities forced the Bulgarians to accept the Turkish faith, they put knives under their throats so that when they moved their heads left and right for "No", they would cut their own throats. But the Bulgarians were smart and resourceful, so when asked "Do you accept the Turkish faith?", they moved their heads up and down, which actually meant "No"! Thus they managed to save themselves and their faith. ❤️

I just found you, watched the whole video as a Bulgarian I can say you're right about most of the things you say and they're well said. I enjoyed it, I would suggest you to show the "Rich" part of Bulgaria as you've said it, show the Nature(Mountains,Seaside etc...) Small villages around those places some are very well hidden so to say but are absolute gems and the people you will meet/see there are the one of the many real Bulgarian treasures. If, you haven't done so already. Time for me to jump to next video on your channel, hasta la vista.

5:05 You got it a bit wrong, but this is common misconception. The head movement is not like you are describing. For yes, it is not left to right, it is more a "semi-circle" with the head leaning to the left and right. It is not straight angle left-right. It is more of a tilt at 30-45* angle to the shoulders. Have a look at it closely. For no- there is also a difference - it is not up-down up down like in the west for yes, but it is down to up only once combined with a frowny face;) Which is a slight, but also very distinguishable difference to the yes/no nodes of the western world. Have a close look next time around.

The "yes" and "no" nods are indeed the opposite, but they're also a bit different. For "no" you don't nod, you tilt your head backwards. To say yes, you don't move your face from left to right, you make a wave motion with your head, while your nose points in the same direction.

Thank you Justin for the valuable info.. ✌️👍☝️ Speaking about the sea gulls, I saw in Istanbul those birds like to follow each and every ferry going out from the ports begging to be fed by the flocks, even inland in the parks around the city, they are just an ignorance pest, which I don't think food are scarce for them over there.. 🤔 The locals do take care of all the stray animals on the streets.
