    An expansion to this game came out pretty recently called "Welcome Back to the Dungeon" It includes four new classes (Necromancer, Ninja, Bard, and Princess), new artwork for all the monsters, and several new "Special" monsters which you can optionally include in the monster deck. It also has a cool health board which makes it a lot easier to keep track of your health. Really fun and a great add-on to an already excellent game.

    Agree that the player elimination thing is really not a problem because the game moves so fast. It's hard to imagine ever being out of the game for more than 10 minutes. And, frankly, even after you've been eliminated, it's still amusing to follow along with someone who is still in. I love this game. And it's good even with kids since the concepts are so simple.

    The last time I looked into it Brenden had his own tropical island. Something about embezzlement and lax extradition treaties? There was a thread on the old forums but the OP "went missing" and it didn't get migrated to the new server. If you know what's good for you, you'll try not to think about it too much.

    Talked my non-gamer co-workers into Skull on our last out-of-state business trip. Dare I try for this? I have it and "Welcome Back to the Dungeon". I'm trying my best not to lure them into a D&D session, so this seems a fair compromise, yes?

    Phew! I just started watching SUSD and didn't agree with them on a bunch of games but here's one we totally agree. Welcome to the Dungeon is great, it was a hit with everybody that I've played it with and it's a super bargain to boot. It's also worth mentioning there is a stand alone expansion Welcome Back to the Dungeon that is essentially the same game with some different characters. The only small tick against it is that they don't quite mix together perfectly, you have to use one monster deck or the other and then fudge the character abilities if you use old characters against new monsters or vice versa. But other than that it's a nice way to double the number of characters available for dungeon runs. :)

    Buy both. You cannot mix the heroes and the monsters. But, for each round you can choose between any one the 8 heroes. You need to use their corresponding monsters. The 2nd game includes a nice hit point board, which you can use with either set.

    Most of the time when people disagree with SUSD it’s because they find the game often works for their group but in this case, I would say that I have played both this and it’s expansion with many groups and people will often play it for several rounds, curious about the art and trying the different classes, but they would never want to pick it up the next game night. Small, portable, pretty, but unless your group likes bluffing games I would not recommend.

    Although the box states two to four players, you really need more than two players. Because with two, it's not that fun at all. You'll know half of the monsters in the dungeon and if any one passes the other goes in the dungeon. There's hardly any tension and it doesn't really feel like a game.

    Ribby You're all playing as the same character, so the equipment is shared. essentially, when playing as the Warrior it's like all the players are Warriors and they're trying to brag about how little equipment they need to face the dungeon

    I think I may have been playing incorrectly--so when you place an equipment token on a monster, that indicates you are "out" for the round, right? Or do you get to keep playing?

  • @coleryan5553

    @coleryan5553

    7 жыл бұрын

    No, you first decide if you're out for the round. If you're not out for the round, you draw a monster make the dungeon more difficult by either adding the monster to the dungeon, or removing a piece of equipment.

    I think the player elimination is being downplayed. I think it's a fun game, but when someone has bad risk managment, they get out eliminated pretty quickly and that means 15+ mins of sitting. If you play another game (because it's not long) then again some people might just sit through. I really think this game would have been 100x times better if there was no player elimination and they had some other mechanism

    I don't get this from the review. Sounds like the dungeon will just always be obviously too hard to everyone and the last player is stuck with it.

  • @John-cr7tm
    @John-cr7tm5 жыл бұрын

    I initially liked this game but then found (at least I think) a flaw that made the game much less fun. It's always better to add the monster to the dungeon vs taking an item out. The reasoning behind that is, if you always add a monster to the dungeon, you know more of what the dungeon consists of and when a hero will survive off of what you've put in. If you take an item out, that information is shared with all players (the monster you had is secret, but it's not part of the deck and is irrelevant for all the other players anyway). Basically you end up giving information to other players from taking an item out, while you give no information if you just put it in the dungeon.

    This isn't a good strategy for 3 reasons: 1: If the warrior goes into the dungeon with all his equipment then he is guaranteed to win even if all the monsters are in the dungeon. The rogue is also almost guaranteed to win with all equipment (so long as she names golems as the monster she wants to kill). As a result if you've got one of those heroes out then you're letting whoever enters the dungeon win. 2: Knowing a monster isn't in the dungeon is often more important than knowing one is in the dungeon (I'll expand on point 3) so whilst you are offering up some information to your opponents (the removed item) you're also learning something very valuable no one else knows. 3. Removing equipment will intimidate players into folding but you might know that it's actually safe to enter. Let's say for example the rogue is being used and you pick up the demon (7 points of damage), you decide to remove the demon from the deck and remove the piece of equipment that kills enemies with 6 or more attack power. Then on your next turn you pick up the dragon (9 points of damage) and again choose to remove him from the deck and you take the piece of equipment that gives 5 bonus HP. This will likely scare your opponents into passing because they don't know you've removed the two most powerful monsters from the dungeon, so they'll think without the two bits of equipment you've taken they'll die if they enter. This lets you enter the dungeon for what should be an easy win.
