Welcome to Sound Sack!

Ойындар

Sound Sack is a channel that's devoted to sound, mainly in videogames. Everyone's obsessed with graphics graphics graphics, but it seems like nobody in the game industry ever gives sound much love. Let's give it the attention it deserves!

Most exciting times was late 90s with 3d sound cards. I loved what Aureal was doing with a3d 2.0. really upset creative bought them and decided their tech was not needed.

Great idea for a channel... EAX in the early 2000's, Blinks and Blops from the C64 SID chip, Midi music during the DOS era. Atari ST and Amiga Mod music. I think a lot of game productions lost the uniqueness of early gaming audio as it got more modern. Lots of good quality these days but perhaps less charm? Looking forward to this content 👌

Looking forward to some solid audio style talks from this channel Joe. I feel like when it comes to audio quality and nuance, the built in TV speakers and the various types of sound bars that the majority tend to go with (this is based on speculation, maybe I'm wrong!) are the reasons we don't have strong advancements in audio tech when it comes to games. Microsoft and Sony both are making some strides to change this, however Sony is primarily focusing on the headphone side of things (for now). Microsoft actually lets you use Dolby Atmos upconverting on their consoles, and even DTS:X. We just need a lot more games to take advantage of these audio formats. Converting game audio to Dolby Atmos isn't quite the same as a game created with Dolby Atmos from the get go. Also makes me wish that Sony would open their consoles up a bit more like Microsoft so they could both be using Atmos and/or DTS:X, but I guess these kinds of tech will make for differences for buying decisions.

Just subscribed 👍🏼 I’m liking where this is headed. Was looking for info on what audio formats current and last gen-consoles supported. My take is it’s still Dolby Digital?? And of course LPCM, but each has its own use case scenario? And some games have weird formats.

There are some games that offer different mix options for the audio, 2019's Modern Warfare is one of those, maybe you could make a video exploring how to choose the best one based on your setup.
