With revenues of ¥562.7bn in FY17, over 80% of which are from outside of Japan, we have a presence in 27 countries, across 11 manufacturing sites on three continents and some 12,400 full time employees.
Our engineering heritage and culture is rooted in Japan, where our first steam and electric locomotives were built in the early 1920s. A major inroad to the field of passenger transport was made in 1964, with the supply of our first Shinkansen ‘Bullet Train’ vehicles to coincide with the Tokyo Olympics.
We continue to deliver the most current Shinkasen for Japan’s railways, and have successfully exported our technology and expertise to multiple rolling stock projects across the globe - from high speed, light rail and metro, to driverless technologies for passengers and freight.
In modern times, our global footprint has been established primarily on organic expansion in the U.K, leading to major contract wins including High Speed 1 and the Intercity Express Programme, and the acquisition in Italy of AnsaldoBreda and Ansaldo STS, which has diversified revenue and added capability in signalling and turnkey in particular.
We are ambitious and continue to seek to expand into new key geographies, such as North America, and new products including the Internet of Things (IoT) and digital.
