Growing up in Flatbush, I viewed Canarsie as a nice area to move to if you couldn't afford to move to queens or long island. Times done changed. Bayview always been there, YOU CANT miss it coming off the Belt Parkway, but Canarsie is much much bigger than Bayview. The Majority of it is residential, Caribbean and working/middle class.

Some of the most legendary gangsters in American history were outta Canarsie. The Vario crew featured in the movie Goodfellas operated out of a junkyard on Ave D and partied at the Bamboo Lounge on Rockaway Pkwy. Up until the 90s Canarsie was a recruitment center for young gangsters looking to be a part Cosa Nostra. I see a lot of negative comments directed at these kids, but that lifestyle was here long before they were and it will be here long after they're gone.

It’s nice to finally hear some young black men speaking some sense. Saying “we need to be positive. Teach positivity. Too much death” Is all great, but what does it mean? I’ve realized that teaching children a trade is the answer. Have them learning how to cut hair, be a plumber, be an electrician early in life. Let’s idolize the working man. If these young black kids learn a trade, finish high school, don’t have children out of wedlock, and get married before they have kids, their chances of ending up in jail goes down exponentially. Those few things and they’ll be in such a great position. That and to start respecting police. Do what they say. Hands where they can see. Yes sir, no sir. Give your ID and do as your told. Cops aren’t racist. Teach the youth THAT, and they will surely end in a better position than their parents.
