I was raised in the burbs, but the best times I EVER experienced growing up is when we went to the hood and the projects to visit my grandmother and cousins during winter holidays and summer. My father would drop me off for two weeks at a time during summer months, he didn't want me to grow up soft in the burbs, I even earned a nickname, i now i take my 12-year-old daughter for the same reasons.

Since you be in Brooklyn a lot lately, PLEASE get in contact with the hood “powers that be” and do a video on The Decepticons. They’re Brooklyn’s own homegrown family that has a legacy THROUGHOUT NYC from the 80’s to present day. Decepts are in every boro in NY. (I’m not sure about Staten Island). EVERYBODY wants to make it seem like they grew up the hardest and their neighborhood is the worst in the world. I rock with this. Whoever you are, your family made you that! That's the foundation and it's good to see a young black man recognize and showcase that! Big RESPECT to PHRESHER!

Usually parents from the inner city would send their kids to their family in the South/suburbs. My family did the opposite. My parents left NY when I was a baby. We moved to the suburbs in another state. My parents sent me to Harlem every summer. I never wanted to leave. This is literally what I experienced. My family lived throughout Harlem. I hated where I lived. Going back to Harlem kept me grounded and a sense of black pride. Where I lived there was so much direct racism. Harlem was my relief. As I got older I think this is the reason my parents sent me to Harlem every summer. ❤️✊🏽

As a long time subscriber, Native New Yorker, and man that has spent a lot of days in ENY, I must say I LOVE this episode. It didn't show the "trenches" which is in every hood but it showed the positive side of growing up in the hood. Not EVERYONE is into crime and drugs. There's family, friends and love too. With crime there's really NO FRIENDS, just ASSOCIATES!!! Big up to Phresher (from love and hip-hop) for showing the positive ppl in the hood too that are trying to break generational curses. I live in another state now further down south but I'm a NYer ALWAYS (spent 90%of my life growing up there with a few years in Miami in middle school lol) FAMILY is EVERYTHING!!! This is a great representation of *Hoods across America.* We all understand the "violence" that surrounds the areas we grew up but the one thing that is missed? Wow the family gathering in one tight space .. I miss that .. all the food .. war story's.. the older people are dying off and the new generation doesn't do this anymore .. its not the same once my grandmother passed .. 😔 I feel the hard core love in here .. makes me want to invite myself to his house 🏠 for Thanksgiving or just a plate 🍽 and convo around the table ...

I was my moms only child too r.i.p...my father had 6 r.i.p to him too. My grandparents raised me. I had to learn to forgive and now me and my siblings is good now. I'm a product of the pj's in the south in TX but I swear our struggle is the same. I love this because even though I grew up poor I was supported with love from my community. First gen college grad and now doing my thing in mental health as a psychologist working with at risk teens. Don't sleep on us kids coming from the pj's. We grow up to be GREAT.

This truly captured the true beauty and spirit of the hood that no money can buy, The love, the family, the friendships, the comunity spirit and the VIBE, in the summer the hood can be so vibrant all the diffrent ages and generations out together vibing with good music good food, people looking out for each other, You don't need crazy amounts of money to live life together and be happy, No money in the world can buy that vibe and comunity, The hood is pricesless when it comes to that, we need to appriciate the hood more, stop the violence and come together like this.

Yes!!! My mom used to cook like that as well as my grandmother and they are from SC but moved to New York City way before I was born and I'm in my early forties. My mom passed, my grandmother is still here (91) and still moves like she is 60 lol. The family gatherings were abundant every year before my mom and most of my aunts passed away. I TRULY miss those days. I'm going to have my grandmother help me start it back up though.

All Americans who never had the courage to raise their right hands to serve this country will always be inferior to us who fought wars for this country...civilians even gang members here should realize and bow down and know us U.S. military have the bigger guns and weapons to wipe out all you civilians who never joined...we will always get more recognition and honor than you civilians who disobeyed the law here in the USA and regular civilians too...bow down civilians when you are in the presence of us military who protect the USA...real facts...💯💯💯💯
