“Welcome Home” ~ Return to the traditional Japanese landscape ~Iwami-Ginzan Omori-town、Shimane Pref.

Iwami Ginzan Omori-town is the largest silver mine in Japan, located in Oda City, Shimane Prefecture, which reached its peak from the late Warring States period to the early Edo period. gungendo.com/
Iwami Ginzan made famous for its silver mines during the 16th century to the early 20th century. Omori was the center of that silver production where during its peak produced about a 3rd of the world’s silver as well as promoting economic development in the East Asia region as well as being one of the few areas of international trade before the Meiji Era. Because of this history the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mines was designated as a World Heritage Site in 2007.
As we make our way through the town here, what you will see is that the town has an old and vintage appearance, now a rare sight here in Japan.
Authenticity is something that comes naturally here in Omori town which is
an experience hard to come by now in Japan.
There is a lifestyle brand store called Gungendo in this town and the shop is inside of a refurbished samurai residency. The owner of this company is a Omori town native andhe made sure to maintain the traditional architectural style of this town and reusing parts of the house such as the rice hut for a showroom.
Please come to San’in once after the coronavirus has gone away.
