    We adopted 3 rescue dogs many years ago, and they were huge mix breeds (wolf/chow, pitbull/great dane, and pitbull something), so we hired this unbelievably expensive German trainer for awhile, who really only liked dogs and hated humans, or at least us, and had us petrified! I hadn't thought about this for years but your video reminded me of her exactly! She was very experienced and gave us some great advice, but mostly just called us names in German and screamed directions as we tried desperately to do what she wanted. To this day, I still jump when someone says, "sit!" to their dog in the park, and try not to immediately crouch down!😊 luckily, two little boys moved in next door and came over every day to play with the dogs and wore them out, so we never had behavior problems, they were too exhausted to do anything destructive....they were the best dogs and kids! ❤

    Hey ;D German here :) While we completely go into "commanding mode" I doubt she really called you names in German. If she did use anything that is above a 4year old kid (which would somehow be jokingly acceptable) you'd have understood at least two words. Idiot and Depp (like Johnny Depp - Depp means dimwit). These two are the first words Germans use when we loose our temper. I could imagine she started to generally swear though, if she wasn't able to tell you what to do. Calling each other names in German is like telling people you're willing to have a private war with them for the next few years ;D

    A few years ago I met a guy in the park training his dog. He wanted to become "professional", but he made Jonny Trainer seem quite normal. Lots of dog walkers were getting worried, he was spotted abusing his dog. Several said that the next time they saw anything they were contacting the police. The guy disappeared shortly afterwards. I recently saw a video in which a guy stated that dogs should not be allowed to sniff at all. It is the reason for taking my little one out. He sniffs as and when he wants to. If I stopped him, it would be like me going for a walk blindfolded! When I first had my little one, we would happily do a 30,000 chihuahua walk. These days, I'm lucky if I can manage to do a 3,000 chihuahua. I think that chihuahuas are now my go to unit of length!

    …sniffing on walks is actually incredibly important for tiring a dog out both mentally and physically. It’s why I try to walk my dog near open natural areas with lots of smells and let her have 10 feet of leash to allow her space to roam. The more she gets to explore and do (supervised) zoomies the more fun walks are for her.

    As a dog trainer, I do like to try to figure out how much Cesar Millan crap they've ingested before committing to trying to convince them to enroll in a class. It's a huge pain to unteach all of that. However, it is very gratifying to see them have epiphanies as they come out of it. Recently worked with a pet parent with an adolescent doberman. He was shocked and overjoyed to see how much his dog's behavior improved when he let it have an appropriate amount of sniff time. He was skeptical at first, but I got him to start treating his dog like a pet instead of furniture and things are going pretty well.

    @@sheashells 1. Exactly, yes. 2. Logic is: to be done with the walk faster, because it's a burden to take the dog for a walk. This logic is subjectively stupid, but also a valid concern 75% of the year in Phoenix, AZ. Is it a great idea to own something alive that needs to be outdoors for a certain amount of time every day to remain sane in a region of the world where it is physically unsafe to be outdoors the vast majority of the time because the climate is inhospitable to most mammals? Perhaps. Will people do it anyway? Absolutely! :D

    @christineparis5607

    @@WindierIndoors I wish everyone would take what you say seriously! I agree with you, and living in Texas, where we have constant extremes, you have to adapt to the weather, since it can literally kill you (and your dogs!). Pavement in the summer can reach heat that will literally fry a dogs paws. If you won't walk barefoot on it, because it will give you third degree burns, why would you let your dog fry?? We got up before sunup in the Summer, and walked them at 4 or 5 am and it could still be too hot, so we did indoor training and playtime. And now there are some good doggie "play companies" where dogs who are socially "responsible" can spend a few hours playing in air conditioning with other dogs. Simply crating dogs is cruel, because for active dogs, it's like locking a healthy, gregarious five year old child in the bathroom while they go to work for 8 hours, then wonder why it drives them completely insane. I personally think crating is torture. We worked a lot while we had our big pack and still just did whatever it took to keep them mentally and physically healthy and happy. If I could do it with rheumatoid arthritis, than others can too. If they can't, then try to get some help. We were always broke back in the day, but I "hired" our neighbors kids to help and they loved it, and I'd give them five dollars or we'd go to Starbucks (with the dogs!) and I'd get them their favorite snacks. They were five and 7, so it was a big deal to them, and everyone was happy. We did that for years and it worked out great. There is almost always a creative way to solve situations if people don't instantly decide nothing will work out. I'm just putting this out there since I've talked to a lot of dog owners who treat their dogs like an ornamental accessory instead of an individual being whose very survival depends on their owners not being lazy s@#$s...😳😁

    Lol good luck getting a herding dog to STOP doing parkour... Hubby and I fostered a herding dog mix (i think it was cattle dog mixed with Taz the tasmanian devil and rocket fuel). For anyone whos super confident they could handle any dog but hasn't actually had the experience of handling all different types of dogs, let me share some advice from someone who was exactly that, confident without experience... 😅 Foster a herding dog. 😂 Foster a working breed that needs a job and stimulation to thrive. You will find out that you can infact handle that or you will be deeply humbled when that working dog knocks you off your feet with the force of 100,000 8balls. (Sometimes literally...) That pooch was named Joker and I DESPERATELY wanted to adopt him. Im good with dogs, but hadnt handled a working breed like him before. It took me a week to break down into tears sobbing over how insanely exhausted and overwhelmed i was trying to take care of him properly. We had to give him back to the shelter, he put my view into perspective very violently and i realized that i cant be in charge of working breeds that need that level of exercise and stimulation. Not to mention, he literally took me off my feet on day 3.. full tilt sprint directly into the side of my knee, i went down like a barrel of bricks. We sponsered him, he was adopted a few weeks later. I hope the family who took him keeps up with him and gets him the exercise he deserves!

    How long a dog sniffs for is directly proportional to what the dog is sniffing.... Tree trunk ✅️ Fence ✅️ Wheels on non-moving vehicle ✅️ Another dogs arse ❌️ My arse ❌️
