The best way to truly appreciate Weird Al's skills is to watch the original artist's video first, so you see how well he parodies them.

In the first few seconds, I knew she has never seen the original.....if any MJ vids from the 80's. Sigh.......oh well Plasma, you are soooo correct. Newbies in this type of reaction, need to research and watch the originals before even thinking of watching parodies and gaining any respect from us.

Definitely you would want to have at least heard Michael Jackson's version to understand the parody with Al replacing "Bad" with "Fat".
‘Weird Al’ Yankovic has been the number one name in song parodies for the past 40+ years. Getting his start on the Doctor Demento radio show, he’s been satirizing pop music since about 1980. My first ever album purchase with my own money was his third album in 1985, ‘Dare to be Stupid’. He and his band have a lot of skill and flexibility, and I’ve heard his live shows involve wardrobe changes for each song.

My family and I saw him live at the Hollywood Bowl on July 22, 2016. And yes, he did wardrobe changes for each song. Since this was during the period where he was promoting his album "Mandatory Fun," he also had a special opener. Beginning in the street near the Bowl, he began doing a performance of "Tacky," following a cameraman into the Bowl and ending on the stage, and interacting with the audience on the way in.
You've got a verrrry deep rabbit hole to go down in this case. Weird Al is an ICON. It's been said that a musical artist hasn't "made it" until Weird Al parodies one of their songs. He also writes original humorous songs as well as songs that parody the musical style of certain artists.
In case you didn't realize it, this is a parady of Michael Jackson's "Bad". Weird Al puts extreme attention into imitating not only the original song, but also the original music video. The dance moves, everything. Then he adds comedy to it. Michael Jackson really liked it and allowed Weird Al to use the same set.

And Michael went to Al and asked him to parody his songs. Several artists looked at it as an honor for Weird Al to spoof their music.
Weird Al's "Living With A Hernia" is a parody where James Brown not only let him use the set for the original music video, but he let him use his backup dancers as well. :)
4:30 - Okay, so here's a short history of Weird Al. He started writing silly songs as a teenager for local competitions and things. He occasionally sent items in to the Dr. Demento radio show. They were usually well received, but he became a big hit in 1978 when his Knacks parody 'My Bologna' became the most requested fan song in the history of the show. Dr. Demento arranged for Al to meet the lead singer of the Knack, who loved the song and told his record label they should release Al's song as a single. This was the beginning of Al's career. He hit mainstream recognition with his parody of Michael Jackson's 'Beat It', 'Eat It,' and Michael himself assisted Al with THIS video, a parody of MJ's 'Bad.' Al was big for a bit, but he hit a slump in the late 80s due in part to burnout from constantly producing new songs. His career picked up again in the early 90s when he parodied Nirvana with 'Smells Like Nirvana.' Kurt Cobain said that he knew he'd made it to the big time when Weird Al asked to parody one of his songs (a sentiment echoed by most of the musical world). Since then, Al's held back to one album every 5 years or so, which has helped him stay fresh in both the personal and popular sense. His last studio album was Mandatory Fun in 2014, and he's spent most of his time since on tour (excepting the pandemic, of course). Mandatory Fun was the first comedy album in 50 years to reach the TOP of the Billboard Hot 100 and in 2018 he got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Weird Al is the GOAT of musical parody and his catalog of original songs is just as brilliant. Outside of music, Al is also a fairly prolific voice actor. He's voiced himself numerous times, but he's also had some notable roles on other shows, including the My Little Pony character Cheese Sandwich (his cutie mark is a melty grilled cheese sandwich that is quite obviously an accordion), the Transformers Animated version of Wreck-Gar (a reference to his song 'Dare To Be Stupid' being used in the 1986 Transformers movie), and the title character of the Disney series Milo Murphy's Law. 5:09 - Michael Jackson's own choreographer helped Al get the movies down for this video. There are other songs which do a better job of showing off Al's vocal chops. 6:48 - Like I mentioned, Al has been doing this since the late70s. This music video was released the year after Michael Jackson released the video for 'Bad.' 7:11 - When Al performs this in concert (in full costume), he will usually have a guy in a Santa Claus suit come on stage laughing and carrying the garden hoe (doubling down on the 'hos'). Like I said, Al is the GOAT of musical parody, but his catalog of original works is just as extensive, and just as funny. It's advisable to be familiar with the original song when you watch a Weird Al video, because often the original video is parodied along with the song. Take a look at this video comparing Michael Jackson's 'Bad' video to Weird Al's 'Fat: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lImfw82AoqXgo8o.html Al would be a perfect 'palate cleanser' for a bunch of heavy metal. Weird Al is a VERY deep rabbit hole to jump into, but for a few off-the-cuff recommendations, you should see Amish Paradise, White and Nerdy, Dare To Be Stupid, and if you REALLY want to see Al's vocal prowess, his original song Hardware Store.
Weird Al started in the 70's and has more Grammys than most of the artists he parodies. The suggestion to watch the original song then the weird Al version is a very good idea
He is one of the few musicians that had a top 40 hit in 4 separate decades

The only other two are MJ and Madonna, both of whom he parodied. And they were big fans of him.
This video perfectly parodies every scene of Micheal Jackson's video, and yes the is the height of MTV video craze of the 1980s. Al has been making parodies since the early 1970's, but his two Micheal Jackson parodies really put him on the map. Weird Al actually is a very good rapper and is some of his best work. Must do include White and Nerdy, Amish Paradice, and Foil. If you are a fan of Jeapordy, he did a really good paroday on that of the original show before Trubeck took it over. He has won numerous Grammy's and probably has done over 200 songs, including several originals. Many are worthy of a listen. Most of his parodies were of extremely popular songs from artists like Madonna (Like a Surgeon), Nirvana, Emenim.
You've found a great rabbit hole to dive down! Weird Al has tons of great parodies that cover many genres of music. He's been doing it for 50+ years and he's had the same band pretty much the whole time. As many have said, listening to the original song before his parody will greatly enhance the Weird Al experience. One you might really enjoy is his parody of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit." It's called "Smells Like Nirvana." Kirk Cobain himself talked about how much he loved it. He is credited with the original idea that "You know you've made it when Weird Al parodies one of your songs."
I saw Weird Al in concert once. He actually performed this song in that fat costume!! It was HILARIOUS!!! 😂😂😂😂👏👏👏👏
Weird Al is the GOAT
In the 1980s, I never thought that I would be watching videos of people reacting to Weird Al's FAT. We had to sit watching MTV for the video to come on ... back when MTV actually showed videos and was good. We could have a tape ready in the VCR and press record. We could either take the tape to a friend's house assuming they had a VCR to watch it with and see their reaction. Of course we talked about it at school .... no video, no personal phones, etc.
Weird Al always asks the original artist for permission. He was refused twice. Coolio refused to let him do Gangsta Paradise, but was overruled by his label. Coolio later retracted his objection, stating he had been wrong all along. The other was a third Michael Jackson song. After parodying Beat It as Eat It, and Bad as Fat, Al wanted to parody Black and White, but honored Jackson's request to not do it, as Jackson was sentimental about that song. Jackson is still the only artist to have two songs parodied. Artists generally love if Al wants to do one of their songs. James Brown not only blessed a rip on Luving in America, he loaned Al all the original props, got him in contact with the band and the dancers, and taught Al his own signature moves. He even attended the taping of Al's video to see for himself how it came together. A parody by Al has become a milestone for music artists. Al has stated the biggest headache is the tins of messages he gets suggesting new songs to parody.
Amish Paradise, Born that way, White and Nerdy... There're a lot of great songs parodies actually, you won't be disappointed
Years ago, my wife and I saw him perform this at the Clark County ( Washington) fair including an amazing quick costume change in to this fat suit. So, many parodies. He is spot on, sounds exactly like the artist he is making the parody of ( Spears to Cobain, all done well). Check out Amish Paradise for your next review.
Weird Al is one of if not the most prolific parody artists of all times. his videos mirror originals as lyrics follow the Cheshire cat. He has an impressive list of parody songs. All of which are brilliantly simple and entertaining
Dude Genius in France, Annikin Guy, Night Santa went crazy, Gump, Amish Paradise, Hamilton Polka, White and Nerdy, Tacky, Word Crimes, Like a surgeon, his Eminem and Prince videos on Al TV, Perform this way, his polkas like it’s LIFE!!!!!!
Weird Al is one of the most popular singer/entertainer that does parodies. He usually asks the original singer if he can make a parody of their song and some of the original singers will help teach al their dance moves and let them use their sets and some singers will go to al and ask him to do a parody of their song and give him ideas. He’s kinda the new ray stevens
Weird Al does parodies of popular music. Usually he asks an artist if they'll let him do a parody. Most approve. Madonna actually asked him to parody one of her songs. There are several and many are really funny.
You definitely need to review more Weird Al. Even his original songs are great.
The people that helped on the Micheal Jackson video also worked with Weird Al on this video. A true show of respect for his work.
One of my favorite songs of his is Amish Paradise. He's very clever!
The way he jumps around on stage, you can see that he's very athletic in real life. Also, he's pretty tall. Also he's a very good musician, and so are all his band members. His instrument of choice is the accordion!!! 🪗 He is well known for his parodies of popular songs, but he also writes some really clever originals, like MY BABY'S IN LOVE WITH EDDIE VETTER. He's also known for his polka medleys, where he takes a popular song and turns it into a polka rhythm. A very talented artist!!! 👏👏👏👏
Check out Michael Jackson's "Bad", then youll see just how brilliant this is. A very talented guy and bloody hilarious.
Al does parodies from a variety of genres. He also has great original stuff.
he does a lot of parody videos fact the number one proof that you've made it as a professional singer is to have weird Al yankovic parody one of your songs but he's also done a lot of original songs as well, and he's a pretty good actor too
Weird al is the greatest thing to happen to music, most artist consider it a great honor to be parody by weird al, it's a crime against music he's not in the hall of fame he's been making parodys and music since the 70s
Oh my, where do I start? Amish Paradise. Foil. Like A surgeon. I'm so Handy. He has so many hilarious parodies. But some originals. Like "One More Minute."
He's got a lot of great parody's out there "Amish Paradse" (Ganter's Paradise), "Smells like Nirvana"(Smells like Teen Spirit), "Eat It" (Beat It) and of course orignals like "One more Minute".
Michael Jackson was such a fan of Al's parodies that when he saw that Al had done this song He made it possible for Al to use the same set Michael's "Bad" video was shot on
His Parodies are definitely more funny when you know the song his making a Parody of, I can't think of any Metal songs he's done off hand, but there is a good chance with the amount of songs over the decades.
Weird Al is LIFE!!!!!!! I went to my first concert of his at 1 😂😂😂😂😂😂
The Saga Begins is great, especially if you are a Star Wars fan.
He makes mostly parodies, both of particular songs as well as certain styles of particular bands. His original music is mostly (or exclusively, I'm not sure) Polka.
He is fun and in his parodies he also mimics the singing style of the original artist. As a result his music has quite a bit of variety. This, Living With A Hernia, and Amish Paradise, and Like a Surgeon would give you a good sense of the range of his styles.
Al’s version - Original “It’s all about the Pentiums” - All about the Benjamin’s “Amish Paradise” - Gangsta Paradise “Tacky” - Happy “Word Crimes” - Blurred Lines “Perform This Way” - Born This Way “Foil” - Royals You won’t go wrong with any of those parodies. His originals are also great: “Germs” “One More Minute” And so on.
Just found the channel. Good reaction. He has an almost endless play list but try smells like nivanna
This was from 1988, just after Michael Jackson released 'Bad'... In 1984, Weird Al Yankovic got Michael Jackson's blessing to do a parody of 'Beat it'... Yankovic made a song and music video for 'Eat it' that was a spoof of Michael Jackson's video... 'Fat' was done w/ MJ's blessing as well and spoofed the 'Bad' music video. What was amazing was that Weird Al would put on the fat suit he wore in the music video and perform 'Fat' in concert on tour 😲 Weird Al Yankovic was a nerdy kid who loved comedy and pop songs... He learned to play accordion as a kid and would amuse his friends by singing silly lyrics to popular radio songs. He was also a brilliant student and eventually graduated university, but decided he wanted to be an entertainer... As a college student, he would record comedic songs w/ Weird Al playing the accordion and singing, and send them to his favorite radio show 'Dr. Demento' ... They would put his songs on the radio show and it would get a huge response. In 1981, Weird Al recorded a crude parody of Queen's #1 hit 'Another one bites the dust'... remade into 'Another one rides the bus'... and he actually performed it on national TV on 'The Tomorrow show' in 1981... He also recorded the song 'My Bologna' - a parody of The Knack's #1 single 'My Sharona', and Doug Feiger of The Knack was so impressed that he asked the band's label to sign Weird Al and release ''My Bologna" as a single 😂 However, Weird Al was considered a joke as he put a live band together (which is still the same line-up today w/ John 'Bermuda' Schwartz on drums, Jim West on guitar and Steve Jay on bass) and played shows... No other labels would sign him, but a small label Scotti Bros. gave him a shot in 1983 and he released his debut album... MTV was starting up and put Weird Al on the air for the spoof of Joan Jett's hit "I love rock n' roll" (He remade it - 'I love rocky road') But it was his parody 'Eat it' in 1984 spoofing Michael Jackson that gave him a hit record and a star on MTV... In addition to parodies of pop songs, Weird Al would also record songs that were original, but in the style of famous artists (For example: His 1985 hit 'Dare to be stupid' was made in the style of the band Devo... In 1992, his song 'Trigger happy' was in the style of a 60's era Beach Boys) In 1989, he was popular enough to attempt his own Weird Al movie... So, he filmed the comedy movie 'U.H.F.' in which he played 'George', a goofball who is put in charge of a U.H.F. TV station and makes it popular w/ parody TV shows... 'Seinfeld' actor Michael Richards played a spazzed-out character in it before he took the role of 'Kramer'... Unfortunately, the movie was a flop in theaters. In 1992, Weird Al made a huge comeback by spoofing Nirvana's 'Smells like teen spirit'... into 'Smells like Nirvana' and was on MTV again. Every parody he recorded, he literally put himself in the mindset of the original artist so that he sounded natural singing in so many different styles of music. He would also do polka medleys in which he would sing lyrics of pop songs while playing the accordion. In the 2000's, Weird Al Yankovic had been around so long that he outlived a number of the artist he had parodied... He actually parodied 2 generations of artists... In 1993, he made a parody of 'Achy breaky heart' by Billy Ray Cyrus ('Achy breaky song')... and in 2011, he parodied Miley Cyrus' 'Party in the USA' ('Party in the C.I.A.') - daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus 😂 Weird Al also had skills rapping... He had a hit in 1996 spoofing rapper Coolio w/ 'Amish paradise'... spoofed P. Diddy in 1999 ("It's all about the Pentiums") ... spoofed Eminem w/ 'Couch potato'... and Chamillionaire w/ 'White and nerdy'. In 2022, he parodied his own life story in a parody biopic 'Weird: The Al Yankovic story'... Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe played Weird Al ...and actress Evan Rachel Wood played Madonna as Weird Al's girlfriend (In real life, Weird Al had only met Madonna in passing 😂)
He does a lot of fantastic parodies of songs but he also has some amazing originals. All of his “Love songs” or break up songs are some of the best and most twisted. He also does songs “In the style of” other artists and since you like metal the closest is probably “Germs” which is an original in the style of Nine Inch Nails. There is also “The Angry White Boy Polka” which is just a polka medley of songs from bands like Limp Biskit and whatnot.
This is a parody of Michael Jackon's "Bad", he has many, and like someone said before, It's best to know the original song first cos he puts in so much detail to have it mimic the original.
A couple of things. No one ever seems to get his line "I've got more chins than Chinatown". "Chin" is a common Chinese names. As for Weird Al, you might want to see a show where he joins in with the duo Garfunkel and Oates doing one of their songs. As far as I have noticed, no on has done a reaction to Garfunkel and Oates.
I recommend watching weird Al’s song the saga begins. It’s a parody from the song American pie.
Als parodies always works best when the original artist helps out
musicians for the majority don't think they have "made it" in the business until Al does up one of their songs. lol
Weird Al is the best! If he does a parody of your song...you made it!
Hey, Anastasia! Al has been the primary name in comedy-based music for most of my life. And as popular as his parodys have been, his originals are even better! And his live show is one of my favorite things (he even wears the Fat suit for that song). So no - not metal, but always a good time. Rock on! 🤘😎👍
I suggest you also check out his songs 'White and Nerdy' and 'Amish Paradise'
Easiest way is to go right to Al's channel and go through the videos.
Weird Al is the King of Song Parodies. This was a Parody of Michael Jackson's BAD video. He also did a Parody of Michael's Beat It called Eat it. My favorites are his Parody of Coolio's Gangster Paradise called Amish Paradis, his Star Wars version of American Pie and a Parody of the Broadway musical Hamilton.
Weir Al is the King of Parodies. Regardless of who actually owns the rights to these songs, he always asks the artist for their permission before ding the parody. From “My Bologna ( the knack-My Sharon’s) I. The 70s to “smells like Nirvana(nirvana smells like teen spirit) weird al not only captures the music and stored great lyrics, butvtres to do his videos on the same st, even using the same extras as the original video. See the original frost. The similarities ar amazing
He does parodies of songs - this is from Michael Jackson's Bad - I'd suggest Amish Paradise and The Saga Begins as 2 great song to get a feel of him - two very different styles.
Weird Al is the GOAT of Parody!
Weird Al is a genius and the GOAT of parodies ... around for decades and even very known in Germany, where I am located/living. I own all his records as his work is amazing! You can't go wrong with WA. There is so much to discover - you'll have a lot of fun! :)
It’s a parody of MJ’s song Bad. Weird Al has been an institution here in the US since the 1970’s. He has dozens of parodies, and they are all amazing recreations of the original, but with hilarious, similar lyrics. React to more of Weird Al!
I'm a metalhead myself but I do really enjoy a silly song once in awhile and Weird Al happens to be one of my favorites.
You should watch the songs "CNR", "Mission Statement" or "Smells like Nirvana".
Weird Al was great friends with Michael Jackson and Michael gave him his approval to parody his songs. Same with dozens of musical artists. If Weird Al chose your song to parody you knew you made it! There's a video here in KZread that shows Michael Jackson's video next to Weird Al's and you'd be surprised how close the moves are to the original. Weird Al is a perfectionist.
Weird Al is a national treasure, and his music is a rabbit hole of wildness.
Weird Al is a parody king of all music
How about credit moving like that, in that costume ! loved the review
You'll like him doing "Smells Like Nirvana."
I definitely recommend more weird al. I loved seeing the perspective of someone who doesn't know him, I'm definitely subscribing. I recommend "The Saga Begins", a Star Wars parody of the song "American Pie", another great song by the way.
Wish to brush up on English grammar? Word Crimes is the thing for ya. "Stop Forwarding This Crap Too Me" is an original weird Al composition. "Living with A Hernia" is based on James brown's "living in America" and James did the choreography and instructed weird Al on how to perform like him.
Weird Al is The G.O.A.T.
White and Nerdy Tacky Confessions part 3 (no music video tho) Word Crimes Are some of his best parodies.
I was a kid when this was on TV. I couldn't stop laughing.
Oh you poor lady. You invited a giant fan club to comment on the God of paradyies. Who's been doing it for 60 some years in every genra.
Fun fact: weird Al made fat and eat it which are parodies from michael Jackson’s bad and beat it. Michael helped weird Al make bad and eat it by letting Al use the original places where he made bad and beat it
It's a REAL shame that you don't know Weird Al and that work he has done over the decades. You really need to watch more of his work as well as the original songs that he parodies with the artists' approval.
Great job 👏
Weird Al is the king of paradies so when weird Al does a paradie of a music artist song the made it big and he's been doing paradies of music videos almost 45+ years now and he did a rock video of a nervana song
Check out the sofa begins
This is a “double parody” of Michael Jackson’s ‘Bad’. Parodying both the song AND the original music video of ‘Bad’.
weird has over 60+ parody songs. my all tine favorites are this one, also eat it (cover of beat it by michael jackson) and living with a hernia (cover of living in america by bobby brown)
"Fat" is such an iconic parody, I no longer know the actual words to the original song. All I can think of is "don't you call me pudgy, portly, or stout!" and "When I walk out to get my mail It measures on the Richter scale" instead of whatever the actual original words were.
It’s a PARODY of BAD by Michael Jackson
He has perfectly parodyed Michael Jackson's "Bad" video. 😂
Weird Al was the "Prince of Parodies"
Weird Al is the king of parodies. This is a parody of Michael Jacksons video of "Bad". If you were to play the videos side-by-side, they're almost shot for shot. MJ even let him use the same set to make the video.
80’s parody of Michael’s Bad. Weird Al is Funny, and has lots of hilarious parodies of songs since the late 70s.
OMG! Check out his other music! Madonna, Eminem, chamillionaire, R Kelly, the list goes on and on.
Weird Al is the parody king .. all him stuff is entertaining... try "Amish Paradise" a parody of "Gangster's Paradise"
Check out his parody of Madonnas Like a Virgin, his is called Like a Surgeon.
Weird Al has been doing parodies of popular music since the 1980's. His cover of gangster Paradies is called Amish Paradise. It is hilarious. The video that goes with the song makes it even better. As long as you are going outside of your metal world. Please remember to check in on your favorite Russian teenage contralto. Diana has recently released a number of new songs.
Weird Al does Parody videos of popular videos of the time. To understand his videos is to know what he is parodying and know the original artist and their music video and how accurate weird Al is with his production.
If you want a metal song original by Weird Al, check out “Germs”.
You have to see the original Michael Jackson "Bad" video to fully appreciate this parody!
Anastasia It is reported that Michael Jackson was onset when Weird Al filmed this video and other video, "Eat It" because he loved all Weird Al's parodies before MJ given him to permission to parody them. Weird Al, as his customary practice, seeks a permission from each artist before he parodies their songs even though by law, he can parody them without permission. Because his songs are similar to artists' songs, Al given them credit to avoid copyright infringement lawsuits. Al have done this for nearly 50 years.
Always watch the original first, before watching Weird Al‘s take on a song. This is of course a parody of MJ‘s „Bad“. He was even allowed to use the set of the original set. There is even a side-by-side video on KZread of the original and the Weird Al Parody, where you can clearly see that he mocks at every little detail in the original!
weird al has been a paradey artist for decades you should whatch his movie "uhf" one of his first hits was my balonga which was a parodey of my verona he evan had a mtv serious i realy do miss harveythe wonder hamster
You cannot appreciate this parody without watching the video he's making a parody of. The following clip does a great job showing Michael Jackson's "I'm Bad" and its parody, Weird Al's "I'm Fat" side by side. Weird Al got it perfect FRAME BY FRAME! He's a genius. Many artists in the 80's knew they hit it big when Weird Al made a parody of their song. Most of them loved when it happened.
Al is the parody G.O.A.T.
Check out Germs based on NIN
Weird Al Yankovic is the king of parodying songs, but you’d have to listen to the originals to really appreciate the parody, as for Fat, this came out in 1988 on his Even Worse Album, but seeing this done live is absolutely amazing that he can change from his normal skinny self into the fat suit is absolutely incredible, my personal favourite song comes from his final Album Mandatory Fun and it’s a parody of the Happy song by Pharrell Williams called Tacky, when he performs it live he has a camera on him and is in his dress room and sings the song and finishes it on the stage, it’s amazing to see that live.
Amish Paradise is my favorite from him, great parody of Gangster's Paradise
it is from the eighties
YEZ! Get into "Weird Al" the Rabbit Hole!!!
when doing weird al reactions you could react to the original as well so get like a 2-for-1 type deal especially if you haven't ever seen the music video for bad you'll really appreciate how they made this music video for fat
It's almost a frame-for-frame parody of the original video
