I bought the Weigh Safe Middleweight hitch. Towing a 29’ travel trailer with a Ram 1500. Currently I’ve traveled 3500mi with it on our xcountry trip. When we passed thru OK, TX, and NM we experienced consistent 30mph winds with 50mph gusts for almost two days of towing with many tractor trailers too. I’ve never experience wind like this before coming from MA. The hitch did great, MUCH. better than my previous hitch (Blue Ox Sway Pro) I did slow down to 60mph during these two days. Made me feel better but I’m retired and have the time. Thanks for recommending Weigh Safe as it made our trip so much better. We are about half way on our xcountry trip now. Lots of fun still ahead.

EXCELLENT presentation. You do an outstanding job testing & communicating the pro's & cons as well as very good video. I followed your tests on trucks a few years back when I moved up from my F150 Eco to a F350 7.3L gasser. When we got our new tt we opted for the Andersen even though we are at the 30' limit you mentioned. It may not work quite as well as our previous WTH (Reese spring bar type) but the ease of on & off and weight savings made up for it. Again; THANK YOU!

I’m new to driving with a 33.5 foot Travel Trailer. I only had my RV since 3/31/2023. July 2023, I drove pretty over big dip crossing the RR Tracks. The jolt twisted frame clamp and bar was loose. I called Curt after having the hitch inspected where the technician thought where the ball bearings sit, he said that the socket was cracked. My warranty was for 1 year and Curt said that I would need to buy another one. Well, we drove with the hitch for over 4800 miles with no issues other replacing the frame clamp but I didn’t like the way Curt approached the situation. I was at least I hoping they would recommend a site to have the hitch checked other than just saying your warranty is over. As soon as I get a chance, I am going with Weigh Safe HD winch set up after seeing your You Tube videos on the top 11 hitches. Thanks for your reply.

Another insightful review. Thanks. I was going to look at Andersen, but will stay with my Weigh Safe True Tow - Heavy. It is HEAVY, but all the good things you said about it are right on. I towed my 6,500 lb. (loaded) 27’ trailer with three Escalades and a GMC Canyon. All towed wonderfully with the Weigh Safe. Now have a 2022 Silverado 1500 that I expect will make easy work of the tow task, as did my previous 2015 Silverado. Why a new truck? Payload. The Canyon was overloaded even though it was well under the tow limit and really pulled the trailer quite nicely. I will not tow overloaded, even if it feels o.k. Chevy fixed that.

i just ordered this hitch today with the 1200 lbs bars. I was very interested in the B&W Continum but my trailer has a middle frame member on the tongue so it wouldn't work due to the hydraulics getting in the way. I'm sure I'll be happy with the Weigh Safe and I can't wait to see how well it performs. I've never used a weight distribution hitch because I thought just having airbags to level the truck was al I needed. Boy was I wrong! Forgot to say thanks for the discount code!!

Really nice video. I found your most recent hitch battle and I'm getting a Flagstaff 29BHS (35', 7700 dry) in the next couple of weeks. I'm going to go with the Weigh Safe middleweight for all the reasons you mentioned (also hoping my power tongue jack can move to the side and drop the tailgate. BUT, one thing that I think will be SUPER NICE is setting it up for different tow vehicles properly. We rent our camper and this one will be the same. Everyone shows up with a different rig, so it would be awesome to set it up for them and feel confident that it's dialed in. Thanks a ton for doing these! Super helpful! As you mentioned in the video, Anderson is great for certain situations but in my case, with a barely adequate TV, it did not provide enough weigh distribution (and it also had issues with slippage even though I followed the instructions to a T). My funds were refunded and I purchased the Middle Weight. It is good, but it is an ongoing process and we are still trying to dial it in - have not put on as many as Corey/WonderWeekends. Would have loved to have seen your install of the MW - and very appreciative of all of your reviews.

You provide great info & videos; including the recent review on the Middle Weight & B&W; would have loved to have seen the install on the MW. I am pulling a 2022 GD Imagine 2600RB, 7850 GTW, 890 tongue weight, with a 2022 GMC 6.2 Sierra 1500Limited - and yes I wish it was a 2500. Trailer dealer agreed to install the TR3, but installed the R3, refunded my money and I went with the MW. WS Customer Service (super so far) thought it would need a 4" drop but it needed the 6" (actually 10.8" - per my tape and WS detail). Dealer tech put it in the top two holes in the rise position; we pulled it 180 miles in that position and it rode great. According to our calculations it needed to be dropped two holes and still requires the 6"; both positions raised the truck tires off the ground to slide the swing arms in and out with the lift arm - lot of stress on the jack; WS recommends spring arm platform to be 9" below the top of the hitch as ideal for the best tow position - currently it is 8 5/8" - so will move at least 1 hole down, which would be just over 9" and allow the arms easier access. Have not pulled it in the new positions, and look forward to doing so very soon. I would have loved for the MW to have the locking mechanism like the Heavy Weight to make it easier to remove and store. The tailgate drops without hitting the hitch, but the lube port goes up between the GMC letters, and that nixes the down position. THANKS AGAIN!

We towed with our Middleweight for the first time. I was very surprised because I was coming from an equalizer. The camper, 36' Flagstaff, seem like it was more connected to my truck. It felt more comfortable towing on the interstate. Their was still a little porpoising, but not bad at all. My only compliant would be the weight of the hitch. I am 63 yrs old and things seem heavier than they use to. Overall I recommend this hitch.

Love your videos, ton of information... I grew up around campers with my grandparents and he had an 1984 S-10 2 door blazer and around an 18ft Sunline tandem axle camper, he always used a weight distribution hitch when he towed, and he towed it at least one weekend a month to go out camping. He taught me all i know on camping, including set up break down, hitching, etc... they passed away years ago, and camping dithered off, i could not afford to do it and had no friends that were interested. Fast forward to now I recently bough myself a 1/2 t Silverado 1500 with tow package, and been looking at getting a small camper under 20ft (looking at Imagine 17MKE). Been watching your videos and reading your comments. Wondering what a good Weight Distribution Hitch would be for a small camper like the Imagine coupled up to my 1/2 T?? Seems some of these WD hitches are overkill and made for way more tongue weight and trailer weight. I wand a good dependable reliable WD hitch that will do the job, provide stability, and allow me to back up and move around, and I do not mind taking the time to set it up, just don't want to spend an hour every time doing so, unless i really need to. keep up the good work, and dumping the info out to us all :)

A little late now since you have hit most of the major players, but I'd like to mention the idea of a clip demonstrating the noise level for the trunnion bar style as you negotiate a parking lot. I've had the Anderson for going into my 3rd season and am 95% satisfied with it, but it does bounce a bit with the rubber bushings it uses and the Weigh Safe is very intriguing but I've heard enough trunnion style hitches rubbing and scrubbing their way around fuel stations and campgrounds and I'm just a bit apprehensive. That is the primary reason I went with the Anderson.

I do have a question though i am pulling a 22ft box 30ft total with a 3/4 ton truck so would be better off just getting the heavyweight or would the middle weight be more suitable. Thanks for your reviews and look forward to watching the rest of your videos.

I just bought this using your promo code... thanks! The funny thing is that I'm pulling the exact same trailer, the Grand Design 25BHE. I'm using a 10k Equalizer and the issue is that I'm pulling with a 2017 Navigator L, which only handles 850lbs or so for the tongue weight. I had 3 dealers from 3 different states tell me that I could pull the 25bhe, but it squatted way too hard on my trip home from GA to FL, and now I think my strut is damaged. Hopefully, this will help me balance it better.

With 800 lbs of tongue weight and 6800 lbs, I found the app's recommend distributed weight was too low vs sway. I added another 300 lbs (e.g. 2300 lbs). @@jonbenson4247, well for one, my hitch was way over spec for my trailer (14,000 lb rating, but my trailer weight is only 6,300 lbs). I had been thinking about going to a lesser Equal-i-Zer. I also liked that you can fine-tune the weight distribution each time you hitch up without disassembling the hitch head. I have it installed now, but haven't towed with it yet-that's coming up in three weeks. The weight difference between the two hitches is 18 lbs, so I get back a little more payload which is important when you tow with an F-150. Also, the hitch is just a hair longer than the Equal-i-Zer and I can fully open the tailgate, another added benefit.

Should this be a concern? From the Middleweight Manuel. (NEVER tow or back up with spring arms attached if the angle between tow vehicle centerline and trailer centerline is greater than 60 degrees. Unhook spring arms while backing up to avoid this. Failure to do so may cause damage or hitch failure and will void warranty. ) From the Equal-i-zer Site (Can I back up with the Equal-i-zer hitch? Yes, the Equal-i-zer hitch is designed to allow you to back up and take tight turns with the hitch hooked up. Just be sure the frame brackets are installed in the correct range on the trailer frame (27"-32" from the center of your coupler) so the arms have plenty of room (2"-3" after the bracket) to move during tight turns.) We have now towed 5 times with the WS middle weight. My previous hitch was Equalizer 4 point. I tow a GD 2600 RB with a RAM 1500 max tow package. It does a very good job. Sway control is very good. I think performance in the wind is not as good as the equalizer. It does better with truck suck though. The WS hitch is significantly harder to connect and disconnect the sway bars. The truck has to be raised up VERY high. The placement of the adjustment screw on the head is a bad design, in my opinion. It provides a very tight tolerance for backing up. No more than an inch of variance before you hit it with the trailer receiver. This is a very different design than the heavy weight. For me, it was not worth the money over the Equalizer that I already had. I would definitely buy the heavy weight over the middle weight.

My truck is a 2020 Silverado 1500. Using the Weigh Safe app, it is telling me my max tongue weight is 300-450 lbs, which seems way too low. My two axle cargo trailer empty probabyl has at least a 300 lbs tongue weight. Here are the values I entered into the app: Silverado Info: GVWR 7,200 lbs GCWR 15,000 lbs MCC 1,709 MCC Trailer Info: GVWR 10,000 lbs MCC 7,000 lbs Coupler 2 & 5/16th What's even more messed up is the Weigh Safe App is "lawyering up". The App is not letting me make any edits to the numbers I entered so I had to delete the app and re-install it. If anyone has some input to share regarding this issue, please reply to this post.

I am very experienced with towing I have never owned a weight distribution hitch snd never had a problem towing in 45 plus years of towing but I have always used a much bigger tow vehicle. I understand that on a price adjusted basis your far and away favorite is the Weigh Safe. That’s entirely fair. But to simply describe the ProPride as the unlimited budget hitch isn’t fair. Its not just more expensive. It’s an entirely different method of controlling trailer sway. The advantages of which are not perhaps as readily apparent with the combination you’ve run. I think it would be fair to say that the ProPride is much more expensive than the others but as you said in your original review it’s the only one that truly eliminates 100% of sway. The delta between in and the weigh safe obviously in your opinion doesn’t justify the price and again that’s fair. But the ProPride isn’t just a more expensive hitch that does the same thing. It’s a totally different Technology of sway control and elimination.

  • @WanderingWeekends

ProPride does a wonderful job of confusing (and quite frankly scaring) people into thinking they need to eliminate 100% of sway to remain safe on the road. They have to find a way to convince people to pay nearly $4,000 dollars for a hitch. I’ve also found the folks who have ProPrides defend them to the death because they know everyone else realizes how much they spent. You are correct, the ProPride is an entirely different hitch than the wheelbarrow type hitches… but is it NEEDED? My opinion after 9 hitches is no. Absolutely not. I felt 0% safer using a ProPride vs using a Weigh Safe. Again, this is my experience. If you know of someone else who has used both please let me know. I’d love to get their comparison.

@@WanderingWeekends I’ve not used a weigh safe but I did have an E4 Equalizer before switching to the ProPride and I believe it’s a significantly better hitch than what was (at the time) the best of the friction based systems. I’m an advocate of the hitch not because I need to justify what I paid for it but because of the benefits it’s delivered. In my view it saved us from an accident when I was once forced to make an emergency lane change while braking hard to avoid a car in front of us that decided to cut us off. Hard braking and an aggressive lane change are usually a pretty guaranteed recipe for a KZread worthy trailer sway event. But the ProPride kept our trailer locked in behind us through the whole event. I think it’s more than a little unfair to the user community to say the only reason we promote it is to justify what we paid for it. In my view the user community is enthusiastic because a. Most people come to a ProPride after bad experiences with conventional hitches and find it truly delivers. b. Because the customer service the company provides is simply amazing. My event and events like the F350 that ended up hung off a bridge by its safety chains tell me that while not common there are events that can overwhelm a friction based hitch. I get that it’s a 1% thing. Heck growing up we towed a 24’ trailer with a 1/2 ton Suburban and a single add on friction anti-sway bar and never had any issues. Whether or not it’s needed is up to the individual of course. That no trailer in all the years it’s been out there has ever been in a sway accident with a ProPride says something. I suspect that’s true right now of the weigh safe as well and time will tell if it holds up. But to return to my original point it’s entirely fair to say that the ProPride in your estimation isn’t worth the price. That the performance differential between it and the weigh safe is small. But it’s not fair to just call it the unlimited budget hitch because it’s truly a different technology. Think if it in terms of XLT vs Limited. Yeah a lot of stuff on the limited might be minimal to no value add for you or me such that it’s not worth the premium. But that doesn’t mean it’s the truck which is only for the more money than brains crowd.
