    A few important notes I included in the sister video that I neglected to mention here. 1. Tow vehicle is a 2020 F250 w 7.3 Godzilla 2. Test trailers have always been 30-37ft and around 7500-10000 lbs 3. This hitch is rated for a 1600lb max hitch weight and 16,000lb max trailer weight.

    I can't thank you enough for taking the time to do such a thorough review of this hitch and others. I'm currently using the anderson but I feel I'm slightly too heavy for optimum performance with my Jayco eagle 284bhok. It's just not pushing enough weight back to the front tires. Everything else about the anderson I've liked. That being said this hitch has all the pros of the anderson but is just a much better design. I will be purchasing this hitch purely because of your review. Thanks again!

    I now have over 1500 miles on my Continuum hitch and I strongly believe it was worth the price. One thing to note is the composite spring bars. These are far superior to any steel spring bars because they can be engineered to flex at different rates. The outcome is a much smoother ride. I have noted before that my DW who does hand sewing when we travel was not able to sew much of the time previous to this because of rough roads. With this hitch the smoother ride enables her to enjoy her hobby. As the video shows the hookup time and effort is the best of anything I have used and for those occasions where the TV must be angled to the left or right the advantage is even greater. As noted below part of the observing of different pressures on the gauge is the fact that your rig must be level for this reading to be the same. If you are on a surface that has plane of the trailer lower than the plane of the TV then there is less pressure on the hitch and spring bars and the gauge will read lower. I have in my experience with the hitch gone through side winds and other issues as uneven lanes or trucks passing and found no sway problems. For those of you who are looking for real experience to help you asses the hitch then I hope this helps.

    Yes, very smooth ride. As for pressure loss... I have lost pressure simply sitting in one place so while the angle point is well taken this wasn't the reason I've lost pressure. Temp maybe? I'm not sure how much 20 degrees would have on the system. Hopefully not much at all.

    Your review videos are great. I have been looking at the B&W for a while and then stumbled upon your first video. I ordered the hitch before we went to pick up our new TT. First trip from Middlebury IN to Monticello KY experienced a variety of conditions from wind to rain to blue skys and calm conditions, along with all traffic conditions (Friday before Memorial Day). Camped for a few days then back home to NC. Totaling around 650 miles and feel confident in the hitch. Tow vehicle 2016 Ford F150 crew cab 5.0 and trailer 29’ Grey Wolf 22RRBL dry weight just under 5,500 lbs. Do love the fact that it will be easily adjustable once the motorcycle is put in the trailer.

    Great review. I like the live action shot. I'm really impressed with my b&w on the road. It has made my ride very comfortable with an old truck. You were right about not going wrong moving from the BO. I'm still getting used to the hitching and unhitching at angles/uneven ground. Very doable, but there are some things you have to watch and be prepared for. I also couldn't use the mount, it left the platform too low and it would hit the bars in tight uneven turns. I have also experienced big swings in hydraulic pressure. For me this happened when going from low elevation hot climates to high elevation nearly freezing climates and vice versa. Not sure the how temperature affects the volume of hydraulic fluid but my guess is the volume deceases with lower temps and therefore the pressure decreases too. I would adjust the pressure at each fuel stop to accommodate for pressure swings. Otherwise this hitch drastically improves ride and handling of my rig and inspires both my wife and my confidence while hauling.

    How does hooking up on an angle work? Does your truck have to be perfectly aligned with your trailer when you back up in order for the jaws to fit in? Can your truck be at a 30 degree horizontal angle and still be able to hook up? I know with the anderson if you're angle is > X degrees then you need to take a tiny bit of weight off the ball, then adjust the appropriate chain to "pull" the receiver ball into the correct position, then you can finally hook up both chains and put full weight on the ball.

    Good review with pros and cons. I'm surprised that the sway control works as well as it does. As for clearance, it's more than my ProPride, which is like 8" or less from the ground, and I take my jack shoe off when hooked up, so it doesn't hit. ProPride needs to figure out how to incorporate this tech. It's weight distribution is a weak link.

    I have this hitch and have used it now 4 times. I too thought I was loosing pressure but it really came down to how level you had your truck in comparison to your trailer. If they are angled when you put pressure on it and then compare it to when they are leveled together, the pressure changes as the angle between the trailer and truck changes. This is what I noticed at least. I have not done specific testing. It did perform great all in all though. So far, I love it. I too can’t use their hanger. To keep the hitch off the ground, I just wrap a bungee around it to keep it up when storing.

    I posted in the last video that I purchased one for my in laws and they still love it. One specific note on ground clearance for a very specific use case: - F-150 (half ton) with the front return set correctly based on the ford tow guide - A 24’ TT that is within the weight range but on the LOW end - It’s a jayco, which has an under slung hitch, which is a different SKU than a standard hitch. - Only need around 1300 psi for correct distribution. With those factors it sits lower than a normal bar would and has scraped a few times where there is significant articulation between the truck and trailer (driveways, campground entrance)

    Good video. Much appreciated! I'd like to switch from my Andersen WDH to that Continuum but I've an odd issue. In order to fit the trailer into its space I use the Trailer Valet RVR-9. I think that would be problematic with the Continuum but I may be able to figure out how to use bungees to keep the thing up off the RVR-9. One thing I really dislike about the Andersen WDH is that if you are backing in your trailer and the tow vehicle and trailer are not nicely line up straight with each other it can be a real pain to get things hooked up. I'm going to have to sort out whether the Continuum has similar issues (I'm guessing it doesn't).

  • @sssophiesmom

    @sssophiesmom

    One question I have always wondered about the Anderson hitch...you mentioned hard to put back on if vehicle amd trailer are not straight... Could you simply hitch up trailer but not attach the plate, then pull forward til vehicle and trailer are line up straight, and THEN attach the triangle plate? I dont have one yet but plan to buy one next yr. I am never straight on when backing into a campsite. I always am angled to put trailer exactly where i want it. Thanks for your thoughts

  • @oldguy1030

    @oldguy1030

    @@sssophiesmom The fix is a little different from simply hooking up the hitch and pulling forward. 1. If the plate is angled just a little off then you can simply hook up the plate and tighten things as per normal. 2. If the plate is angled a lot then that doesn't work and you can't pull it straight or safely hammer it into position. The fix is to keep the chain fastened to the wing which is most pointing back toward the trailer. Disconnect the chain from the wing which points more toward the tow vehicle. Then you pull forward and turn away from the chained side until the wings have straightened enough to hook up the other chain. It is somewhat counter-intuitive but it does actually work. So the above actually is a fix but it isn't actually even as straightforward as it sounds (or does not sound) above. If you don't have a broad expanse of space in order to make the requisite turn you are kind of out of luck. I hooked up at home and if I tried the turn as I came off the concrete in front of the garage and tried to make the required (in my case) sharp turn to line things up - I block the entire rather busy street. I had tow it around until I could get to a less-busy street and blocked that street. And understand, to get things sufficiently lined up I had to turn so sharply that there were just a couple of inches between my truck bumper and the frame of the trailer. The Andersen WDH performs pretty well for me when I'm out on the road but the wing plate problem has me unhappy enough to want to switch.

    About the hydraulics! 3 MAJOR concerns. 1st if the shutoff is a needle valve they tend to get ridges on the needle and start to bypass. Why would they have the valve sticking out in harms way. Very possible to get broken off or damaged beyond use. Right above that is the little gauge which is connected in the pressure circuit. If it takes a hit, the bourdon tube inside may rupture. This component is brass and not much thicker than a soda can. I would suggest shielding the pump or moving it to a safer location. It looks like a nice little pump it just seems exposed for damage.

    Hydraulics don’t expand nor compress! (Paschals law) Sounds like you have a leak, (most likely cylinder seals leaking by internally if you don’t see any oil on ground). Pressure will leak down to counter pressure. What I mean by that is if it is leaking/bypassing, it will only leak down to point that it can hold back. Work with hydraulics every day at paper mill and if it did expand or contract, we would be in serious trouble.

    Ground clearance with this hitch looks to be tied into what style A frame you have. Is the A frame welded under the main frame or does it run through the frame. There will be a 5-6" difference between the two. Imagines run the A frame under the main frame so thats why there's only 10" of ground clearance. Anyone with a through the frame A frame will have around 15-16" of clearance. Doesn't have much to do with the tow vehicle.

    when i saw the debut of that thing i called it a failure out of the box because of the hydraulic. Why? Because hydraulic pressure is affected by temperature, which changes with ambience and changes fluid temputere with work ( while you're driving). The 3rd factor that affects fluid pressure is elevation changes. IMO. That makes that hitches performance unreliable, unpredictable and potentially dangerous. As you're experiencing in your review.
