Great suggestion, however I would not wear white or beige to a wedding cause in my country wearing white/beige is considered disrespectful towards a bride.

Happy Sunday Emma! I loved this video and totally agree with you about wearing trouser suits for a wedding. Now approaching my 70th year I have spent decades of wearing dresses and skirt suits for weddings accompanied by the obligatory high heels and (often large) hat - often feeling so uncomfortable by the end of the occasion. Actually for the last couple of weddings I have attended I decided enough was enough and wore a very comfortable light trouser suit and low heels! I loved the Arket suit you featured best of all and would definitely wear that one - the accompanying shoes were great too. Looked very comfortable. I wasn't so keen the H&M suits, mainly because I thought the material looked rather cheap but liked the style of the first suit with the cropped trousers. I never knew that all white weddings for the guests were a thing! Just shows that I'm completely out of the loop nowadays! Love to you, Simon and the Bs. X

Love, love, love. I typically would go for a suit myself (usually black no matter the season); however I do not shy away from a nice occasion dress and heels. I do like dressing up for the right situation and a wedding for me would fit that.

Love the suits, I have two silk wrap dresses one short sleeved one long sleeved. One dress is black and the other navy. They are pretty comfortable and cover many bases. Like you though I’m more comfortable in suits. The all white is so refreshing.

Who's wedding are you going to wearing any of those colours on the rail too close to white cream ivory blush all bride colours i love the idea of a suit but go a little bit darker camel beige or a satin slip dress and a blazer their are plenty of suit colours in pastel or bright colours which would be great for weddings i know you explained in the video about some brides no caring but i would just feel like i was breaking some rule and i would feel disrespectful unless as you said they asked you to wear white cream or ivory

The bride and the groom should also consider that some guests might come with a partner and children. Imagine all of them have to buy themselves complete new outfits. In addition to that they have to buy wedding gifts and some of them even have to stay at a hotel or something. Not to forget some exclusive bridal shower trips to other countries. Some families refuse to attend weddings because they can't afford it anymore. Celebrating love does not mean everybody has to follow some trends.

If wedding guest outfits rely on not wearing a particular colour , I feel it’s all a fuss over nothing. I say go with respect to your self and to the occasion and above all, feel comfortable. All these unwritten rules are dated in modern weddings and I think a suit or a simple dress that can be versatile enough to be worn after the event is the best solution. A monochrome outfit can be accessorised with brighter colours in shoes,bags,jewellery,pashminas etc without having to pay shed loads of money only to sit in your wardrobe never to be worn again!

love these, and most of them can probably be found in more bold colors if someone is against neutrals/white. Would love to see some bags to go with them though. As someone who lives in my Uniqlo round mini and my work bag, I never know what to wear with formal wear. And the thought of a clutch makes me ill (too prom like IMO)

Lovely options. Thank you. The older I get, the more I refuse to wear anything uncomfortable or that entails me having to fuss. Weddings always, as you said, entail a lot of standing around and waiting and guaranteed we end up walking a lot and there is always some sort of weather issue, be it wind or heat or rain and I have too often ended up madly clutching at a wayward dress skirt, cursing my footwear, or feeling like a rumpled mess because the synthetic fabric is just miserable to spend so many hours in. I’m so over it lol. And, yes, that occasion wear just sits there in the wardrobe. Besides, the day is not about me. I want to dress in a way that respects the momentous nature of the occasion, but I’m not the one anyone should be noticing for my apparel. I’ve been to more than a few weddings where some of the guests may not be in white, but they sure are adorned to the hilt to the point where the Bride looks under dressed at her own wedding. People fuss about wearing white endlessly, but there are definitely more “offensive” ways to dress at a wedding. From immodest to downright inappropriate finery. Look to Royal wedding’s and their dress codes. They may require you to refrain from wearing white, but it’s a lot more than that. The women are asked to dress in a restrained fashion. Their one allowable flourish is their headdress. But even there, they no longer come adorned in their tiaras as it’s seen to be outdated and in bad taste for the day. Wearing white in a restrained manner, in material and cut that is clearly subdued is much more respectful, in my humble opinion, than coming in colour festooned to the gills.

I recently wore a silk blouse, leather pants/trousers, and kitten heels to an event (not a wedding) and felt great. It felt appropriate and comfortable. The silk classed up the leather, and the leather gave the silk an edge. I had a dress as a backup but opted not to wear it. I think “dressing outside the rules” can be appropriate in many cases. It’s not the 1950s after all!

I’m 50. I’ve not been to a wedding in decades. When me and my contemporaries were all getting married. I’m sure I’ll be going to weddings again in about 10+ years from now when our children all start getting married. Then I’ll have to consider what to wear to weddings at age 60+.

I absolutely concur Emma; I have spent my entire adult life avoiding these occasions (including office parties) as I always felt compelled to buy a dress (which I never wear). I actually feel so uncomfortable in a dress, it's ridiculous. My husband feels the same about wearing a suit: he walks around like he still has the hanger in the back of the jacket!! 🙂

I actualy think creasing is the charm of linnen. But thats not for everyone 😊

Suits make me feel very uncomfortable to wear where I live in the US. I feel too masculine when I wear them, even tho I think they look feminine on other women. I love this idea tho, so much better than buying a new dress every time. Also love how you used items you already owned to style these outfits

I learned not to buy dresses years ago. More suiting or separates were far more career friendly.

I think the whole essence of a wedding gets lost in dress codes and outdated traditions. One attends these occasions to celebrate a union of two people who love each other so what difference does it make what colour outfits the guests wear?! As long as one respects oneself, the venue and the bride and groom, why on earth would a white,beige or pastel colour suit cause offence? Seems crazy to me!

If it's ok for the bride to wear white or cream OK, but otherwise all those colors are bot for wedding guests. It's the first rule: don't wear white 😅

Everyone is talking about the white aspect, but IMO it’s the causal aspect. Yes being comfortable is a wonderful thing but I think our culture is moving in a directions where everything is casual. And we wonder why we don’t get amped for anything because we are chill for everything. There is a time and place for everything. It’s a wedding. Casual suits for everything is not sitting with me…..

There’s nothing wrong with wearing a suit to a wedding, but white/ivory/light beige (as well as black), is disrespectful and quite inappropriate. There are thousands more of other colors that would be better, save the “whites” for something else. Personally, I hate wearing trousers, jeans, etc., I would much rather wear a skirt suit, or, especially, a dress. I have several solid-color (and a few prints) silk dresses that I wear for weddings and similar occasions, and also wear them much more dressed-down. A silk tank dress is especially versatile, and there is nothing in the world as comfy. I even wear them at home, they feel so great, so why not? I love a matching silk skirt and top set, too, because I get two great separates and a dress look. I only wish I could find more of them. Sezane made great ones, but haven’t this year.

Oh dear Emma, you've opened a hornets nest with some of these comments! I had no idea so many people were so ultra traditional, bridezillas are go lol 😂 To be honest ive mostly attended wonderful pagan ceremonies where people are happily barefoot and chilled outside for their ceremony, so beautifully relaxed ❤

If you wear white in my wedding you are out

These things are culture-specific, of course, but don’t wear white/ivory or black to a US wedding! And don’t wear “classic court shoes” (pumps to us) with high stiletto heels, everyone else will point and laugh their heads off. These are never, ever worn here, except for Pinterest photos, they’re considered pretentious and stupidly cute uncomfortable and dangerous, which they are, of course. Those block-heeled sandals are a thousand times better. One never needs higher than mid-heels here, even for the dressiest evenings, and high heels (3-inch and up) were never considered appropriate for daytime, ever.

OMG the amount of white/cream/ivory on this rail is absolutely bonkers 🤯 there are millions of colours out there, just don’t wear white or ivory on one day. It’s not that hard!

Surely a wedding is to celebrate the love and union between two people so what difference does it make what colour a guest wears? It’s not a fashion show and if plunging necklines or thigh high slits on dresses are acceptable fashion items often worn at these events,then why would anyone be offended by a pale coloured,smart but comfortable trouser suit?

@@aliceinwonderland.2080 You should never choose white, because the bride is in white. Any colour that is close to white (ivory, cream) should be avoided. Every guest will think you’re trying to upstage the bride if you turn up in white. Just choose another colour. And to say a wedding isn’t a fashion show…not sure how many weddings you’ve been to but literally everyone looks at what people are wearing and you’re photographed left right and centre 🤣

@@s_b548 unless you are wearing dress aswell, there’s no upstaging the bride in my opinion. A white suit would struggle to upstage a ballgown with a train and diamantes. If I see someone wearing white to a wedding, my first thought is not that the person is trying to upstage the bride

I can’t believe these comments! If you are invited to a wedding it’s presumably in order to celebrate the love and union of the couple getting married. What has the colour of a guest’s outfit got to do with that? I think the only disrespect in question here is your unwarranted comments towards Emma. You do and wear whatever you deem appropriate for the occasion but don’t expect everyone to have the same attitude as yourself.
