We were ALMOST RUN OVER while walking across The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco!

My grandson Mason and walked across the Golden Gate Bridge and back again. It's approximately 3.4 miles. We were lucky to arrive on a beautiful and sunny day.
It was a bucket list trip for both of us.

Its a walk you have to do if you have the time in SF. When friends visited we walked less than halfway because they wanted to explore more of the marina area. Its also great to get your walk in after a long drive! Glad you had good weather even if windy because it can get so foggy you can't see across to Marin County. I'm not sure who had more zest and energy, you or Mason!

Steve - What a great item to be in your bucket list and what a beautiful day. One of my items on mine was to walk across the Mackinaw Bridge which connects our two peninsulas of our state (Michigan). It is 5 miles across. Every year on labor day they close a portion of the bridge to cars so people can make the trek. It's true. It can be super windy but what gorgeous views - just incredible. So glad I did it years ago. Did you take any pictures of you two on the bridge with the water in the background? I wish I would have thought of it when I did it but I was 10 and the whole experience was a little overwhelming at that age. Love this video. Sounds like you had a great time. Blessings - Judith 🎭🎤

My hubby and I went on vacation to San Francisco June 2022 and we rented e-bikes and rode across the bridge and around the city. It was fun! Needless to say, a lot of bicyclists tend to be aggressive. I’m definitely not one of those. I’m pretty cautious. I don’t want an accident like I had a couple years ago. I think when we went there, only one side of the path was open, as they were doing work on the other side.

Steve! When heading out to walk the bridge, you should have told Mason the famous line, attributed to Mark Twain (don't know if that is true, but that's what I grew up believing)..."The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco". I don't believe I've ever walked the GG Bridge and not been bundled up. The wind coming off that water, cuts right through you!! You had a nice clear day, that was the spirts of the bridge smiling on you. People come from all over the world to walk across the bridge. They used to come to jump, but that isn't nearly as easy as it used to be. Such a sad, sad thing.

They opened the bridge to pedestrians on the 50th anniversary in 1987. I went to that. It was so crowded that I couldn't get across or, for that matter, walk at all. It's the only time I've ever been picked up and moved by a crowd without moving myself. The bridge actually bent due to the weight of the overcrowding. Fun but scary.

I never walked across the Golden Gate Bridge. Back in 2012, I was heading to Southern California while on a cross country road trip and didn't' have money for the toll at the bridge. To this day I am waiting for the violation letter to arrive in the mail!!!

lol, now they just photograph your license plate as you drive over and they mail you the bill. You are not allowed to even stop at the tollbooth anymore. I forget how much it was the last time I drove across, but it seemed very, very expensive. 😳👍

You had perfect weather and that brings out people, also San Francisco is a walkable town. (from wiki) "As of January 1, 2024, the Golden Gate Bridge now has a continuous physical suicide barrier installed the full length of the 1.7-mile span. The suicide deterrent system, also known as the net, has been installed on the east and west sides of approximately 95% of the bridge" I wish they would take down the chain-link fencing. Those bicyclists were real jerks!

San Francisco is a pedestrian and bike friendly city, as are Portland and Seattle. These west coast cities tend to have mild year-round weather, without the extreme heat of Palm Springs or cold like many other places. People who opt to live in these cities tend to be active, enjoying outdoor activities and keeping physically fit and healthy.

Fort Point is that brick building tucked under the bridge. Unless things have changed walking and bike riding were all on the same side of the bridge. You have to be careful because the bike riders won't slow down, and they won't give you the right of way. They are rude. It's better to walk in the early morning. Everyone walks across during the day. They didn't use to have the chain link fence up. They put it up because there were so many people jumping off the bridge that they had to do something to stop them. It's sad really. Where the fence stops there is netting down below to catch anyone that might jump off. What hotel did you stay at? You are in a way walking on a freeway. Highway1 is the roadway that crosses the bridge and takes people over to Marin County. I'm sorry for the rude bike riders. Something needs to be done about that. I was born and raised in San Francisco and things used to be different. Something happened and people seem to be so much ruder. Looking forward to more SF videos. Take care.

Bicyclist are so vulnerable to traffic that it always amazes me. That’s so many of them are so careless. We have lots of bicycle deaths here in Palm Springs. It’s very sad. 🥲
