We Went To Israel AND Palestine To See Both Sides

In today's episode, we make our way from Malta to Jerusalem to join a dual perspective tour of the ancient city of Hebron.
This was a fascinating experience and we learned an incredible amount. We simply did this to learn and be more well-informed world citizens.
Please watch the whole video to get the full perspective from both sides.
Hateful comments toward either side will be removed.

    Thanks for publishing. I do have to say its unfortunate you spoke to the most extreme of the most extreme portion of Israeli society while speaking to somebody who seems like a very nice moderate Palestinian tour guide. Its kind of like going to America with the goal of showing both Democrat and Republican viewpoints and interviewing some nice guy/gal from the northeast who is a democrat and then going down to Alabama and interviewing David Duke to "represent" Republican views. Probably 80-85% of Jewish Israelis think the Jews living in Hebron are absolute maniacs, and its certainly not representative of any meaningful part of Israeli society.

    Just to be clear, one of the guys on the Israeli side in the extended version is saying Palestinians should live under Israeli law, I totally disagree with that. He's also downplaying the checkpoint like a checkpoint at the US border. He manipulates the concept of Indigenous vs ruler. @Alison Wechsler-Cipriani yeah but Jews in Arab countries are Arab non white jewish people. It doesn’t literally make any sense for all those white people to claim that region is theirs. That’s like white people taking over a place in Africa and saying they have been there forever. It doesn’t make sense all of the Middle East is filled with black and brown people historically that’s how people evolved in that region so for white jewish people to come and take over is no different than colonization and “manifest destiny”

    Fun Fact about what PLO leader Zuheir Mohsen told an international journalist in 1977 about "Palestinian people": "The Palestinian people do not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan"

    Great video👍 Just two points: 1. When you said the Ixraeli side of Hebron, we might think that the city is divided between two states like Jeruzalem is. Actually, the whole city of Hebron is in the West Bank but some areas are controlled by Ixraeli authorities and Ixraeli law is applied only to the Jexish residents of the area, even if the territory is not part of Ixrael. 2. When Yiishai was talking about the checkpoint as a natural border control between the PA and Ixrael, the problem is that checkpoints are within areas inside the West Bank, between Jexish settlements and Muxlims and Chrixtian areas. Moreover, checkpoints are also set even between Muxlims or Chrixtian areas. In short, the Ixraeli army can set a check point anywhere in the West bank. To make a rough comparaison, if you were checked at the boarders of Norway going there from sweeden, it's ok, but imagine a 17 year old Norwegian solder checking your ID when you're going from your home in Stockholm to your school in Stockholm. That's what an Ixraeli checkpoint is in the WB.

    This is not true. Hebron is not divided like the remainder of the cities. It is structured differently from Israel, Judea and Samaria, and even Gaza because of its unique significance, history, and build. It is divided into H1 (~80% of Hebron under Palestinian control) and H2 (~20% of Hebron where Israel has military control, but not municipal. This means Jewish residents of Hebron pay taxes to, for example, Palestinian leadership). There are 18 checkpoints *between H1 and H2*. There are no checkpoints to move within H1 or H2 independently. Yishai talks about these like a natural border because it is one. H1 and H2 are within the same city but governed like two completely different ones with two different systems, hence why a checkpoint is necessary. Mind you, only Palestinians can crossover from H1 to H2 and vice-versa - Jews can only live in H2 and make up ~3% of that area's population. The Norwegian soldier example does not at all reflect the checkpoints between H1 and H2. Educate yourself and do not spread misinformation.

  • @zetto814

    @zetto814

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@AlexG-oo8kt I might have not been clear enough, but I said that other than the legal check points between Ixrael and WB or Gaxa, there are two illegal (by the mean of international law) types of check points: the ones between Jexish settlements and Palextinians populated areas (like the Hebrxn ones) and the other that are between Palextinian populated areas (like the one where Abdelmajeed As'ad died) where the comparaison of the Norwegian example is supposed to represent. Anyway, the Ixraeli army is not supposed to operate in the WB on a continuous basis. I didn't know Jexish setlers pay taxes to PA municipality, thank you for the info.

  • @AlexG-oo8kt

    @AlexG-oo8kt

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@zetto814 Again, you cannot talk about the WB/J&S as if it really "includes" Hebron because it does not - Hebron has its own way of being governed that is unlike surrounding areas. Border crossings in other areas are not between Jewish & Palestinian settlements - they are between the WB & Israel - similar to how you may cross from America to Canada. There are also internal checkpoints and simple crossovers - these are all different things creating different levels of difficulty in movement between areas. They're not the same as a border crossing. Very few of these internal ones/crossovers are staffed or enforced on a permanent basis, and again, these are done for security purposes. If terrorism and inciting violence was common in parts of Norway (where, for example, populations who didn't get along lived side by side), *that* would be comparable to checkpoints within the WB/J&S. By that standard as well, you would probably agree there is some rationale to the checkpoint. Whether or not it's worth it to have the checkpoints given the effect it has on Palestinian movement is debatable - depends on who you ask, obviously.

  • @zetto814

    @zetto814

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@AlexG-oo8kt ok, we are not saying different things overall, the nuances you are talking about are details. My main point is that the Ixraeli army has the ability to operate in a territory that is not Ixrael hece the Norwegian example. The problem is that only Ixrael defines what a security threat is with no counterpower and has the power to intervene outside of its territory. The people submitted to such an abuse have no say nor any other side. Can you tell me what can be the threat from an 80 year old retired man? Did the army exlain the motivation behind the decision of letting him die in a building even after his death? Oppressors present often excuses to oppress and security ones are not the most creative. The truth is, this is part of a system that wants to make Palextinians life miserable so they leave and Jionists can annex WB without any demographic fear.

But it was great every time and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have have. There is so much to see and understand there. Thank you for doing this for uis. :-)

    As someone who works at the Ben Gurion Airport, referring to the start of the video, the blue slip has no use after you exist the customs area. I don’t know why some people keep telling tourists it is important. Some people even think this is a visa

    We need to understand that being at the top of the pyramid of creation means that everything we do trickles down the structure, from top to bottom. When it reaches the bottom, the inanimate level of reality, from which everything grows, it changes it. If we ooze ill-will, it creates negative changes throughout the system, which manifest in increasingly extreme climatic and geological events. In other words, when human relationships go out of balance, everything goes out of balance. When our relations become extreme, everything becomes extreme; when we become violent, everything becomes violent. Each summer, the ramifications of the linkage between our relations and our world become more extreme, until we acknowledge that everything that exists, exists in a connected, hierarchical system and that whoever is at the top determines the state of the rest of the system. It is not as if previously, we were better people than we are today. It is simply that there were fewer people, and therefore fewer elements that exude ill will. Also, relationships between people in the past were less toxic than they are today. While there are fewer wars today than ever, the levels of suspicion and alienation between people are skyrocketing, to the point where people can no longer trust their own family members. As a result, wars between countries are rarer than ever, but divorce rates, domestic violence, and violence in the community, are at an all-time high. Even the internet, which we invented purportedly in order to connect people, is being used to abuse, deceive, and exploit people. The world-wide-web proves that everything we create, we use against others. When there is such a negative element in a system, and that element is at the top of the system, how can the entire system not go awry? Therefore, if we want the weather to cool, the sea-level to drop, and the storms to subside, we must cool the fire and calm the storms between us. Mutual concern, mutual responsibility, or at least the knowledge that we are dependent on each other, are necessary in order to restore balance in our world at all levels, from the ground we walk on to the hatred in our hearts.

    Koran (5:21), “O my people! Enter the Holy Land which God has decreed for you, and turn back on your heels otherwise you will be overturned as losers.” Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari (838-923), who says the remark is “a narrative from God concerning the saying of Moses to his community from among the children of Israel and his order to them according to the order of God to him, ordering them to enter the holy land.”

    The difference in how Tareq and Muhammad talked and expressed their views compared to how Yishai expressed his is quite clear. The former were respectful and they talked about how they seek freedom and their rights; whilst Yishai is more of 'accept our state and live in Peace or move to Jordan' and was quite defensive when asked questions.
