WE WENT TO A LATE NIGHT HORSE AUCTION!
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Hey Horse Lovers! Kyle and I went to a late night auction sale at Smokey Lane Stables in Sugarcreek, Ohio. This auction was pretty decent and this particular sale was a driving horse sale. We went just to look and see! At this sale there were mainly standardbreds but they had some riding horses and ponies as well. In this video I will talk about what I am looking for in a potential auction horse purchase, and also share some educational tips when it comes to browsing horse auctions. Did any horses catch my interest? The MAIN question is did I bid on any? Watch to see! IF YOU ENJOY MY CONTENT SUBSCRIBE!

I hope the Amish that are buying these beautiful horses continue to care for them and treat them with respect. So many cases of horse abuse, neglect and puppy mills. I’m sure a large percentage of the Amish are responsible owners but the the percentage that aren’t have been very disappointing to see.

My neighbor rescued an older Amish buggy horse. It is great to see her free. She has hind leg issues, and now spends her days being spoiled.
Thank you taking us on your journey. Nice to see an auction that has no kill. The environment looks really clean and take pride of well being of all the horses! Thumbs up to the owner of this auction building.

@@introvertedequinesamsara6593 you might be right, but that was not my point. You stated that "ALL" actions in the US are non kill. That is not true, and I have never seen so many horses in such bad condition as at the autions in the US. Not just Horse Humane Plus videos where I have seen this. Here in Germany you will be put in prison for neglecting horses like that. I am glad to see there are still auctions where there are good looking horses and not neglected.

Shae: "This is a no-kill auction." That's what we love to hear and that the horses are in better shape for driving, trail. Thanks for showing, "no hoof, no horse," as well as timing the teeth between 12-15 years. Just knowing how to do basic checks is very helpful ❣💯💯

I agree, buying a middle-aged horse who hasn't done anything since he was 2 is a big risk and a lot of work. I imagine with his colouring he will find a good home.

Was definitely a nicer auction. You and your ponies lol they are little cuties though! I can definitely see you with two little donkeys riding around in a cart with Kyle. Meep meep!! It’s always difficult when you connect with an auction horse but are looking for something else. That Belgian near the end was heartbreaking and I know how I am and would’ve ended up being my pasture pet with my husband rolling his eyes at me…again🤣(happened a few times over the years) Looking forward to the next auction! So right about the pressure at auctions. Its good you tell us about those decisions and how to keep them on your mind when the horse you want comes into the ring. I've been to 1 auction in my life and that was the last one ill ever go to. To many emotions to deal with and I was completely drained the next day and depressed for days. And I only went with a friend not even looking to buy.

Yes, it’s a tough and high stress situation sometimes. Mainly because you’re taking on an animal, and to me a new family member and you don’t ever truly know what you’re getting, so if everything doesn’t align at the auction it isn’t worth the risk IMO. My mom is the same way, she came with me once and couldn’t really do it again because she was so effected. It’s hard for me to but I know I have to push through to continue my mission. ❤️
Hi again SHAE Really good to see a decent auction with well cared for better quality horses. Likely because there's no place financially for kill buyers at a no kill sale. The right decision on the paint after hearing he lived 12 years as a pasture pet. Knowing how much time and training a horse like that would require it would have been more of a big project then you needed or wanted. There's always another sale and other horses. No shortage there!! Thx as always for sharing. Catcha next time...

❣💯 Another awesome narrative at Mt. Hope, Ohio, auction. Liked No. 171 b/w paint who was kind to your touch, well built, but a little shorter; the 3-yr. old palomino was too high at $2,800 & I get it now ~~ all the time and training you have to put into a young horse. That 14-yr-old paint gelding that they wanted $3,000 for had no training and it takes you 6 mos. to 1 yr. for foundation. An older horse should have had more training. You do love your paints. Can't wait for your 2nd video for the daylight auction the next day 👍👏

The time is right for a donkey. They are too cute to wait.
I like when you talk for the horses, like the palomino, too cute. 😅 So you have the $ you purchase the horse with and added to that the time you put into training the horse, feed, vet, hoof care, and board during that time as well. I would think you would want to recoup all that when you sell.

Some good horses there..
I agree with you on not buying.
You have to find a horse that suits you and will thrive under your care as much as possible. If the horse doesn't fit what you want and need pass on it. That black and white paint will still find a good home. And that I base on your assessment.

You made the right decision about the paint. I would’ve made the same decision. The problem with horses that have never done much in their lives is, like you say, that you have to put a lot of training into them. They’ve never had the chance to develop a work ethic when they’re younger, so you don’t know how they’re going to be when they’re older. They may have been a custom to, and undemanding life, and they may not take well to training or work. Some of them just have a sour attitude about it. I think it’s a disservice to a horse to not start training until the horse is basically middle-aged. For some reason, I tend to see a lot of horses in that situation, and I always wonder, why? Sometimes they have amateur owners who don’t know what to do with them. Other times, you just don’t know why.
