As a drummer of over 34 years it always makes me smile watching a single bass player try double bass for the first time , going slow is the key to playing fast , play slow ,learn the technique that suits you best , then practice ,practice ,practice and before you know it your muscle memory starts working for your left foot , also try playing the bass drum with your left foot only to build the leg up to the same standard as your right leg. Oh also have the spring tension on the pedal as tight as possible , it helps if you want to play fast double bass .

I cant see heel toe working on the Dualist, especially since it is a second beater, and the upstroke is already generating a second stroke mechanically. It may be interesting on the Drumtech tho, being as it actually has a heel 'pedal' and linkage, essentially just making the transfer of kinetic energy to the beater more efficient then an actual heel toe stroke on a standard pedal.

I've been trying to develop my heel toe, and my standard short Gibraltar pedal is the just to say too short. Yes you are using the rebound, but I can see where this pedal would be 'useful'. When I kick off a heel toe double, it starts with my heel actually hitting the back half of the board. So much so that my toes are in the chain. So I would think that having the ability to transfer that kinetic energy more efficiently to the beater, in fact it's own beater, would add some benefit. It takes a lot of practice just to get heel toe working and get that motion down, so practicing with that thing would feel like something completely strange, especially for someone who never uses their heels, save for a field show or two....

On the other non-dualist pedal, the one the with second pedal for the heel, I wonder how different or easier it would be to block/remove the beater on the regular pedal and just use the heel pedal, I feel like you could play a lot faster and with a lot more power than the traditional way/traditional pedal. Would probably work best with something blocking the main pedal from moving so you can use it as an anchor point for the front of your foot so you can just keep raising and dropping the heel, instead of raising your foot or your whole leg the regular/normal way. Something for another video maybe? Just heel kick drumming?

I'd be interested to see if you could take on a Necrosy song with this setup! "Drown Into Perdition" flies by at 320 BPM with quarter-note (I believe) bass kicks. Possibly the only double bass lines faster than Vengeance Rising that I know of (that isn't Henker with 4 kick pedals or straight-up programmed!)

Drown into Perdition does 320 bpm 16th note kicks yup. That is not their fastest. There is a part in Abstract Vortex that runs at 330 bpm. And they're gonna have at least one song in their upcoming album that runs at 330 bpm through the whole song. I'm helping out with lyrics and song titles. Just gotta get back on top of that :)

@@Kain_R_Heinlein I still think that's probably one of the fastest double kick sections ever recorded. The riff behind it is a banger too!

with the drum tec pedal maybe try sitting further back from the kit, so instead of your calf pointing right down its pointing more forward and your heel will be less raised like halfway to resting on the couch

It's obvious they're meant for triggers/e-kits with super over the top velocity curve. I think we're reaching the point in extreme metal/deathcore where an entire system of a couple of these with in your face triggers would be necessary for playing that stuff live

Is the configuration you show in the thumbnail possible? I want to see if this pedal works with four beaters on one bass drum (because I only have one).

What a difference the beard makes. We are about same age, Eric just a bit younger, and before the beard he looked like 19-21 goofy young man - now he looks like a very *adult* and *mature* professor dude. I don't have a beard - I still look like 19 😂

    A had a spark of genius. If it goes 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & Bear with me.. (*) = Left [*] = Right (1) & 2 [&] 3 & (4) & Feels like broken triplets, on the bass drum. Like "wavy walking". It might work better. Worth a try.

Need to get some triggers for your double pedal instead of going for a quad pedal 🤣 this is so great though! And you guys really pulled it off in my opinion 🤘🤘

It looks like you have to set up the pedals to a specific BPM in order to work. Is that true or not? I've never used one before.
