Exactly. I think people look to these for a shortcut to double bass. But, IMHO, you'll have to learn just as much muscle memory and technique as you would just learning regular double bass. Cool gimmick though.

I feel 90% of drummers consider this a cheat code. Imagine if they developed a snare that produced two hits when you hit it once. No famous musician would ever use these unless they have an amputated leg or foot, which I think they are the perfect solution for that!
@javihernandez2755
Жыл бұрын
@@The0nlyy I don't consider it as a cheat code and I've been playing single and double bass drum for more than 10 years. El Estepario explains very nicely how it has a different technique and different uses so it's its own thing. Triggers were considered a cheat code at first (and still are by some purists) and now they are commonplace even for the best drummers out there. Quantizing the drums in production used to be considered cheating and now is just a tool if used organically. Even the double pedal itself could have been considered a cheat at first over the regular double bass drum. We're playing a barely 100 years old instrument, let's be open to innovation
@theolympiyn8670

@@The0nlyy but you have to hit it harder then normal expending more energy, you have no rebound, and it goes against your muscle memory. Yes you can get some stupid fast stuff with it, bits a gimmick
I had one many years ago and used it to create fun beats with open/closed hi hat patterns. Very fun pedal. It’s not a cheat. It’s a tool. Great demo.

I need to buy 2 of these just to keep up with Estepario`s single pedal.
I freaking love this pedal! I used to drum as a teen, but fell out of it. Years later as an adult, I wanted to play again.. but sadly my right foot got nerve damage and I am unable to move it from my ankle and cannot move my toes, thus I cannot use a kick pedal. I switched to using my left foot.. but my dreams of a double pedal were done... until this... it's time to set up my kit and get me one of those pedals! Lots of practice time!

I think you could definitely build something that would work for you with what you've got, in terms of a kick pedal for people with injuries... there isn't much out there. It'd probably be damn good rehab for people, and lower body injuries are really common.

I’m 34 years old and I’ve been surrounded by musicians my whole life. My brother is a drummer and has been one for 30 years, he’s toured all over and I’ve watched and I’ve seen all the other drummers out there live and back stage. I can easily say you are by far one of the best to have ever picked up a set of sticks. The amount of skill you have is astonishing. Well done

I play session keys and totally agree with you - however, this guy claims there’s *no talent* required, only practice, and lots of it! Help me convince him that he has more drumming talent in his ears than I could ever have had in the 40 years+ I’ve been playing keys. 😂
Honestly, I think I love it not so much for the double bass speed, but because it allows you to keep full control of the hi hat when doing it
You sir ! will not only be responsible for bringing the drums and drummer back in business and to the front of the class , you are creating the next generation of drummers and bands! Which is extremely important and historical in years to come, heck I'm not a drummer but you make me want to go and buy a set and start playing. Your role now is far more important than being in the band, instead of creating music in a band you are creating an whole industry of the next generation of musicians/ bands. Bravo to you.

one of the best reviews for the dualist I have EVER seen and all in all great reviewing overall. you as a teacher must be a lot of fun ... surely demanding but great fun i assume! thanks for the video and looking forward to see more like that
Thank you for the breakdown! Looking forward to the triple and quad pedal. Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge! Peace
Your videos made me pull mine out of my storage from well over fifteen years ago. I forgot how simply fun this thing is to use.
Ive had one for like 18 years! love it, still going strong!
Hell yeah - super interested to see you put all variants of the pedal into use!
Get the triple pedal! You’ll love it! I’ve had mine for 20yrs, and still play and love it! Rock on!!!
Thanks for this video. That's a pretty amazing piece of kit. Would love to see 2 of these double pedals or even the triple and quad versions. \m/
thanks bud! Such a great honest review. I have a double pedal and never learned how to use it. I am the 2nd category, looking for a short cut to doing double bass! you read my mind...
I would love to see you play the triple and quad versions!
i saw one similar about 30 years ago. at the same time i also saw a pedal where the footplate was hinged. the front part operated one beater, and the heel part operated the other beater. was pretty cool!

That was insane, and a well-built piece of hardware right there. Mind blowing you can pull that off so well in a week 🤘🤘

would love to see your take on possibilities with the triple and quadrouple! most content you see about dualist is just a first try and i can imagine its not a fair comparison if you dont have technique and experience with it. keep up the good content!
It doesn’t have to produce a stroke when you switch to double, just keep a little pressure on the footboard and it’ll prevent it from reaching the head. Also, you can switch it to single while doing a stroke, say the last note of a double bass run, just stomp the pedal and switch at the same time.

Seems like a pedal upstroke triggers the second beater, so as long as you have pressure on the pedal for a double to single switch, should be dandy. Single to double, IDK. I'd say opposite, so no pedal pressure sends double. Again, dunnos, but cool business for a pedal I must say.
Excellent video, thx El! Over the years, I was pondering if a double - single pedal could be made, and of course it can.
I definitely want to hear you play with the triple and quadruple one ! Keep up the amazing work!
You have the coolest looking drums I have ever seen dude, that kick drum looks futuristic love it
💯💪💯I remember seeing this at the NAMM Convention (National Association of Music Merchants) back in 2013. Since then, I haven't seen a lot of drummers showing interest with Duallist D3 Triple Pedal. Assuming the pedals complexity or probably the lack of innovation of playing style. Maybe that's what the drummer community needs is a drummer to make a video of its true potential, other than the basics shown at the merchant shows. If one drummer was chosen to show off the pedals capability, I couldn't think of a drummer other than you bro. I could see you doing one footed "hertas"! 🔥🤘😎🔥
Let's see the triple!!! Thanks for the demo. Very interesting product.
Definitely do a video with the 3 and 4 dualist pedal! That would be very cool to see what you can do with them.
Definitely want to see the triple and quadruple version of the pedal. I just want to see and try and understand how they work. Thanks for the vids

Would love to hear what the triple pedal sounds like with someone at your skill level. Would also like to see what kind of complicated beats you come up with just using this double pedal
Love to see you play two doubles at same time. I imagine you could get really smooth rolling 16th notes. Cheers!
Yep, bought one when they first came out. Still have it and love it. Requires some mid tuning perodically but is a fun pedal to jam with.
I have helped build some of these pedals and I still have no idea how they work. They are so complicated, yet so brilliant! This was a fantastic review of the product. Very clear, honest and educational too. I'm a pipe band (snare) drummer by trade, so my I'm all hands and no feet... If you haven't already tried it, I'd recommend taking a look at their brushed copper snare too. It's phenomenal!
Dude I'm not even a drummer but I'm a huge fan. Que ganas! Much love.
i like the fact that it's a bit of a logistical puzzle to figure out
So wild. Really hard to wrap my head around it - regarding different tempos: how to keep it timed correctly? Different pedal force per foot stroke, or is it more when you lift that it produces the second hit? Really cool, would love to see the other pedal variations. Thanks dude
That pedal is insane!! I would be curious to see how many different bass parts you can come up with using that pedal.
Awesome video. I remember seeing this pedal when I wash young as well and had always wanted to see it used. Would love to see the triple and quadruple in a video.

Masterful suspense building😮 you already have the triple but you're not even going to show us? Absolutely love it, that's worth leaving a comment
I've been dying to get one since I first saw it in a naam video showcasing the double and triple version and I absolutely love the way it works since I don't do double-bass
This is also a great tool for those who have lost one of their legs. It's a great pedal that's criminally underused.
Yes definitely show the triple! And do a Sleep Token cover too! Thanks for all your videos El Estepario!

I would really like to see a video about the triple and quadruple pedal. Love your vids you're inspiring me
Hell yeah, definitely interested to see the triple and quad pedal in something short of you ever make it lol
Very informative, thanks for the insight and testing
I would like to see a video where you playing 2 basedrums with this double-single-pedal.
U are THE greatest!!!!please let us see the 3 pedal please!
If its still being made, i would love to see the grooves you could produce with the the second pedal and 3rd beater
One thing that I feel people overlook with this is that it allows full control of the hihat and all the tightly closed/slightly sloshy/foot chick etc sounds that you can produce. The orchestrations you can achieve with one is pretty wild. And any orchestrations requiring foot actuated percussion like cowbells, wood blocks, ribbon stackers etc could also be achieved while playing doubles on the kick with a dualist. Or use the dualist for whatever foot actuated percussion instrument you're needing doubles on.
@justinnaramor6050
7 ай бұрын
Yes, the fact anyone could seriously have the audacity to overlook this fact is actually incredibly pathetic. It should be so obvious it doesn't even need to be pointed out to anyone. Why would you not want controlled hi-hat use while doing double kicks? Why the fuck is it that drummers have just blindly put up with very conventional double bass drum pedals which is, in fact, a fundamentally flawed concept for the very reason that you lose hi-hat controll? You'd think that the single pedal, dual beater concept would've been literally standardized a hundred years ago, because seriously why the fuck would you not want it? It is really strange how, particularly in musical technology, the most painfully obvious methodologies seem to get the least attention. I see this going on in the world of MIDI guitar controllers as well (which is another rant I won't go into here because it's an entirely different subject).
@joshm1636

@@justinnaramor6050 it's probably just the older generations' refusal to accept that there's other ways to do things. I have both a drop clutch and a cobra clutch on my hihat because I wanted the doubles + sloshy or doubles + tight hihats. That was in part because I couldn't justify the cost of the dualist for my uses but I already had the double pedals. I was always open to the idea of using a dualist because the concept and the possibilities were endless. Imagine mid-2000s Thomas Lang with his insane pedal setup with a few dualist pedals. Many viewed the dualist as cheating which is weird and gatekeeper-y. It's that "I had to walk barefoot uphill both ways in 38°c/ 100°F heat through knee deep snow to school, so you should have to struggle through life too" mentally which is insane. Why they seemed personally insulted by what gear another musician uses to play and make music with is beyond me. As for stuff like this video and the positive response, I think it's a mentality shift in younger drummers (and the younger generations, both musically and in general honestly) to try new things and iterate and I firmly believe it is great. I'm excited to see what musicians and the music industry makes in the coming decades. It's where you get guys like Tosin Abasi, Tim Henson, Henrik Linder, Jorge Garrido/El Estepario (to name a few that are at the front of my mind currently) and many, many more who are being inspired by, inspiring others and are playing music that we wouldn't have heard anywhere near as much 10+ years ago.

Dude I would totally watch you demo the triple or quad. Great video.
i could see having one of these with the old two bass drum configuration... 1 bass infront of the right leg with the dualist... and a lefty double pedal on the left bass drum so pretty much you have two pedals infront of the right leg.
