For the chicken we make something similar only we don't coat it all the way like fried chicken. Chicken breast or tenders, spoon mayo on top to coat, sprinkle with mix of parmesan, seasoning salt, pepper and garlic powder. Bake @ 400°F until chicken is done. We serve it with potatoes usually. We're a family of 6 and I do 4-5 breasts split horizontally, 1/2 cup-ish mayo, 1/2 cup parmesan, 1tsp of each seasoning.
I'm constantly astonished at how many of these hacks could be done more easily by just owning a small, sharp knife.

Barry just found out about Shake 'n Bake 😁

The mango hack works for tomatoes! Try peeling a tomato by using the back of the knife to lightly bruise the skin, then you can peel the skin off the tomato without blanching it and by just pulling it off.
that skin is the most delicious part of the milk! mix it with honey and its just amazing!!!!
I suspect the “jar opener” thing was a Five Minute Crafts hack or something similar.

I use those "single use" plastic straws on my strawberries. The plastic is thin enough that it can cut through the strawberry easily, and doesn't take out more than you want from the middle! Just remove the leaves, then angle the straw into the berry going in a small circle around the stem to make a little moat, then put the straw directly over the stem (so it's resting in the moat you just made), angle very slightly just to dig it in a little, and push down. The stem bit of the strawberry will now be caught inside the straw. Just twist as you bring it up, to be sure the middle doesn't fall out, and you're good to go! You can either squeeze the strawberry bit out, or leave it in, when you go to the next berry. And, you can rinse the straws to be used again for this purpose!
When the folks say that they want Barry's videos on tape, Barry takes them literally. :D Some fun hacks today (especially the chicken one, that's one for the ol' recipe book)

The easiest way I've found to open a jar is to slide the tip of a kitchen knife under a gap in the lid and wiggle it until you feel the pressure release. Voila - you can then unscrew the lid. Never fails.

"It feels like the film Alien... I haven't seen that film but.." - nice one Barry, yet another film to add to your sci-fi list lol.
One little hack I use is when I am doing instant noodles cause of the bowl I use is big and the same with the pot I place the bowl in the pot the bottom of the bowl facing down and get a towl and just hold into the edges of the bowl and pot and strain the water from the noodles instead of having to use a colander it think it's a handy little hack
The chicken hack is better if you add Dijon mustard to the mayo and instead of the breadcrumbs use crushed cornflakes or Rice Krispies. Instead of the oven, use the airfryer. You can add the spices for fried chicken to the mayo or the cereal.

Barry the best thing to open jars are these jar grip "cloths" or rubbers, it's like a mat, sort of like the bottom of a mousepad, you just hold it to the lid and it gives perfect grip to open stuck lids, they're so cheap I've gotten them free at tables at health fairs.

Jar Key is really the simplest and best jar opener!
@4:14 I don't know the source of this "hack" but it is only a DIY copy of Shake 'n Bake - introduced in 1965 by General Foods. Shake 'n Bake is a simple product, just seasoned bread crumbs and a bag; coat your chicken or pork chops with mayonnaise, shake in the bag with bread crumbs to coat, and bake.
You finally got Mrs. B into making the puns XD. Love the channel, it's gotten me into the kitchen, at least when I'm home alone and hungry.

@@mrbarrylewis Just tap the side of the lid on a hard surface 3 or 4 times until you hear the lid pop and it will open very easily.
@laartje24

Yes. If you wedge the back of a small spoon between the lid and the glass thingies that the lid turns on and you then push the spoon up you lift the vaccum and can then easily open it. Works on most glass jars eg pickles, beans, honey, jam etc. Can take a bit of practice to find the right spot though.
To open a jar, take an all metal butter knife with rounded tip. Put the tip of the knife under one of the lugs securing the lid to the jar and lever it outwards until you hear a loud pop. This breaks the vacuum. Then you can open the jar.

You can use sour cream, honey mustard, ranch, etc before rolling your chicken in breadcrumbs. Parmesan cheese is often mixed in as well. Comes out delicious & fried 🍗 like everytime! It's something we do regular in our house here in GA 🍑, USA 🇺🇲 You can also use Corn Flakes or Rice Krispies for coating if you're out of breadcrumbs or panko.

Hi Barry, loved the video as always! In relation to the chicken, what temperature was the oven and how long did you cook them for? Going to give it a bash for dinner tomorrow
Sometimes you can put broken plates together with it submerged in milk, and they normally take 24 48 hours so maybe if you tried it would've worked better

the fried chicken hack is from shake-n-bake from the 80s. instead dipping of water or milk it was miracle whip. it was one of those odd collaborations. thin down miracle whip with a tad bit of milk. then shake it in the shake and bake.
Ah yes, Alton Brown hacks. I'm one of his biggest fans. I've been to his book tours and seen every episode of Good Eats at least 30+ times. He is what got me into cooking.
So, just a heads-up-the milk trick does work, but ONLY on bone China. My mom has used it to improve the appearance of a couple of antique bone China plates she collects.
that jar one may work but i'd use some kind of rubber strip, not that plastic. the rubber isn't as slippery and will grip more. i have a store bought verson of that one that works great, you pull the rubber strip through to adjust to different sizes of lids
I can't say I've ever had problems peeling a hard boiled egg - certainly never enough to make me waste sticky tape on the problem! Just roll them on a work surface with your palm to crack the shell and peel it off!
