Hear is a question for you, maybe even a video idea. In my past I worked as a security guard at a hospital. We were issued ballistic vests from a major manufacturer (Second Chance), the vests were custom made to our measurements. Working in a hospital we were surrounded by medical equipment and people that knew how to use it. We also had rare periods when things were not crazy and we would get bored. When you get bored you play with the toys available. What we learned was that when wearing properly fitted modern body armor, our vital signs were worse then without it. The change in vitals was very rapid. On average my blood pressure would increase by 10 points in the systolic and diastolic. My pulse would increase by 10-15 beats per minute, and my blood oxygenation would drop by 2-3%. These finding where backed up by a study on the effects of wearing body armor conducted by the Indian army. To my knowledge there are no other studies. Probably because no one wants their soldiers or police to stop wearing the stuff for health reasons. My question is: Does older armor, like you use and test, have the same negative health effects on the wearer? Not sure how interesting a video that would be, but the idea is free for the taking, just pass it on if you do not use it.

I were workshop brigandine tailored to fit under a sleeveless vests. I had my 5th shiving attempt against me by 14 & ever since I do not leave my residence in London without gorged, brig with groin protection & secrete under a cap or hat. wear what you please but I will wear 16 to 18 gauge surface hardened steel at 19 Ib's but I did lighten it with some titanium of 1.5 mil gauge but they are cheap though I got as scrap being a former fabrication Engineer till my failed health I would take scrap bit & ends of titanium that no one would miss. My brigandine modified over 14 years now weighs 12 & 1/2s Ib's. I still trust steel more then Titanium but I'm not as young & fit as I once was since I got corona in 2020 which knocked me side ways. If it was not for the cost & hazard I would like plates of silicon carbide as it is a 1/4 the weight of Titanium which is nearly 1/2 the weight of steel. Silicon carbide is 9.5 Moh's while hardened steel & titanium is about 6. You could make a vest or brig of silicon come out at about 7ib's which is nothing. My secrete & gorget is just hardened aluminium at about 3 Moh's but it is far better then nothing from 1st hand experience. Aluminium covering your neck in segments under your beard is a massive improvement to ones protection. For my limbs I wear a great coat or a thick leather jacket to just below my buttocks & my legs I like tall sturdy boots with putees to knee height. You would be surprised what wrapped up decent fabric can sustain against but foot work is best in combat for if you are moving then the opponent shouldn't get at your legs. People just think I'm eccentric in my appearance but it is all practical. I can wear a suit even & people don't notice so the bulk is not noticeable since I tailored it to by frame.

The zombies, who had looked like corpses collapsed on the street all day, started to stir as the sun set. People literally rose out of the tall grass in the park near the castle. It was freaking creepy, and we were glad to get inside for the night. Down town was a disater area in the morning. My ten year old was cursed out by a vagrant just for looking in his direction from thirty feet away. He started following us but backed off when I turned in his direction so the family could skedaddle. Loved our visit otherwise. Took a guided Doctor Who tour. Terrance, our tour guide, was fantastic. We kept in touch and exchanged christmas cards. The rest of the city was absolutely lovely as well. Shame about the party zombies.

While on a body you can stab the chainmail and with enough force and a purpose shaped blade you will have a chance at ripping the rivets and penetrating the chainmail. Not half a centimeter but a lot more, since there's no wood to stop the blade. ;) But yes, they did better tests already.

They were fairly lightweight and flexible compared to their strength, and were made with a kevlar weave. One of the many things we had to do in training was the bayonet course in which we had to stab a dummy wearing a real flak jacket, and we did not pass the course unless we were able to jam the bayonet through the kevlar and into the dummy.

Turned his back for a moment on a customer at the checkout & suddenly ended up with a knife in his back. The instant surprise that the assault did nothing let the guy overpower his attacker & subdue until cops arrived. When they did it took 2 cops to pull the knife out of the shirt given how well bound up it was in the links. Injuries were minor...just a couple stitches. Pretty sure he kept wearing that mail under his work shirt after that.

Most kevlar isn't stab resistant. Slash yes, but a drop point knife let alone the blades youre using will go right through even a Bullet resistant vest. This is why there are vests (Police/Military/Ect) have to be rated for specific types of prevention. You can stab straight through a level 3A vest, which can stop bullets. There are Ballistic resistant, Slash resistant, and then Stab/Spike resistant vest ratings. You can get something that is combo rated but they are usually a combo of lower rates armors. I would think the shirt is only rated for slash resistant, not spike/stab resistant. Reason being is the way Kevlar is woven. The tip of a knife/spike will separate the fibers and puncture something that isn't Spike/Tab rated.

Police in most countries other than the UK wear ballistic armor, which is not stab/spike rated. UK tend to wear stab/spike rated armor. A Ballistic vest will prevent slashes (due to the thickness of the armor) but not stab/spike. A pointed knife will go right through a ballistic vest. It separates the fibers of the armor as it enters. Stab/Spike armor uses a different type of material in addition to kevlar weaving.

A lvl4 plate vest won't stop you from getting shot in the neck but anything that ups your odds of a miss is a win. Plus I'm sure someone wearing this getting attacked would be running or moving, just adding the glancing opportunity is enough to help you run to safety or help without possibly bleeding out.

I could not stop laughing about that flash at the start. Best defense is a brain and eye melting offense?

Attacking the side (under the armpit) is great for close proximities... like handshake or hug distance. You can generate more force being able to bring the knife out farther (again in close proximity). If you are behind someone and assuming you're right handed, you can attack the liver. Not having plates on the side is going to be a definite issue against someone that knows what they are doing.
