    At about the same time Shad announced a reduced role in the channel, a couple other channels I follow had done the same thing and came out far worse after the move, so I was a little worried. Have to say, though, not only has the spirit of the channel remained completely on track but the flexibility and increased opportunities multiple "hosts" offers has provided for some fantastic viewing that I don't think could have been done before. Well done, and great work to everyone involved!

    I honestly don't mind not seeing Shad, I like the new hosts, but the skits they do are too long and unfunny (yes, with Shad too). It's fine if they'd keep them short, just as reactions or something, but when these skits go on for 20 seconds on end, it feels like I'm watching a super shitty impro-stand-up (which it probably is). I end up being irritated and skip around the video to get to the interesting edu-tainment bits. I think if they cut off the fat from the skits and only use them as short transitions, the content will improve.

    @@jesustyronechrist2330 Yeah 1 short skit per episode is enough. I like Shad's intros and conclusions though, but the silly "hi I'm still here" intermissions are only needed once. I don't mind the beginning and end ones, just the mid-episode ones are a tad irritating. THAT SAID, I didn't feel there was any of that sillyness this episode! And the editing at 8:10 was pretty funny. The slightly silly bits were just to keep it to the format of those mythbuster episodes (including the "travelling" to the garden, LOL). Shout out to Tyranth who has been putting in some fantastic work, and Nate adds a great second role and perspective too. It's good seeing Shad having someone else as knowledgeable / skilled to spar with and work stuff out. Hopefully it's giving Shad some time to rest and focus on his other projects, rather than worrying about EVERYTHING. (The fate of an OCD completionist..) Not forgetting Kramer's fantastic insights, and Nathan's hard work behind the scenes, too. Keep at it mates!

    I had the same concern (at first) and the way they've adapted is admirable. The new hosts definitely feel like they have a legitimate role in the show and are not just shoehorned in reading Shad's words; they both do their own thing and in a way that fits the tone of the channel. And since Shad still hosts videos himself, it doesn't feel like anything has been lost.

    - You could wrap some sticks around the point where the spear was broken. It would be more resistant than just duct taping the spear. - You could also take a wooden shield and wrap its borders with duct tape (like around the border). This way, duct tape would work like on Viking shields, that is, making it difficult to release a sword that got stuck on its borders.

    There was this guy back in the day who's bush plane went down in Alaska, about 40min fly time from the nearest town. He was flying an old canvas covered biplane (I think it is called). He happened to have an ass load of duct tape cuz he was delivering supplies to people out in the middle of nowhere. So he duct taped his plane back together, stuck the wings back on and fixed the canvas hull. He managed to take off and fly the 40min back to town. Duct tape literally saved his life cuz it was the middle of winter and there was no way he would have survived that far away from civilization, in the middle of an Alaskan winter. So yeaaaa for duct tape, I always have a few rolls cuz the stuff is great. Gorilla tape is even better, in some instances, but wayyyy too expensive. 😊

    Tip to make duct tape armor sections more durable: alternate directions. Duct tape has directional strength, so alternating the placement (ideally 3, 5, or 7 directions or multiples of such) will MASSIVELY increase the strength you get out of the same number of layers compared to linear placement. Easiest but most wasteful way is figure out a shape that is the diameter of the surface and make as many layers as you plan to add as roundish or square “blanks” out of in line strips, then cut out the desired shape, rotating precise ° increments to get all different orientations

    @@MrGhosta5 perhaps but the rpg wasn't even talking about multiple layers necessarily, it was literally each individual bit of paper magically becomes completely indestructible meaning it can be literally 1 sheet thin and nothing can technically penetrate it... but a single sheet of uncuttable paper doesn't really distribute force, it more or less wraps around incoming edges/points, so unless you were doing dozens if not hundreds of layers it would still be pretty ineffective at anything shy of maybe preventing poison delivery (which was an angle that was frankly missing from the rules outright)

    For the spear, I'd have made a quick v cut in the spear shaft and then shave a corresponding angle cut on the end of the broken part. Then slot them together and wrap with duct tape. It would not be floppy.

    With how far up the spear broke and the time it takes to to a somewhat stable tape construction. Might as well use the spearhead to cut the top next to the break into a shape again. You'll end up with a functional spear rather quickly, just a little bit shorter.

    I would like to see a duct tape and phone book combo. I read somewhere that you can make cheap body armor from duct tape and phone books that can stop 9mm bullets. I’d be interested in stab-proof though.

  • @HappyBeezerStudios

    I have no chance of testing any firearms, but enough layers of taped toilet paper can stop a knife. Both for cuts and stabs. Longevity is an issue, but if you get hit you're most likely trying to avoid more contact anyway and the whole thing is easy to repair. Making it from small plates makes replacing them pretty easy. Similar to samurai armor or scale armor in general.

    would be really interesting if you guys took the idea a bit further. something like diy repairs with modern common items. i.e. if you have the bec de corban you might also have a bow, a few arrow shafts around the spear (or any rod like items from modern times) for structure then wrapped in duct tape, armor made from duct tape layered with other materials in between like old clothes or upholstery, etc.

  • @laurafreeman8315
    @laurafreeman8315 Жыл бұрын

    i think its worth considering that while duct tape is strong and good at affixing things together, its still made to be torn by hand, so a bladed weapon would just cut the weak points, and spikes just slide between the fibers in the tape. additionally, the stronger fibers are length ways on the tape, so just wrapping around and around rather than having some vertical structure for the spear mightve hurt its chances. anyway! i am loving the boys hitting things, nathan's delighted giggle/snicker any time he pulled something out of boromir got me every time. rip to the bec de corbin tho :(

    That's actually a pretty interesting concept. I wonder if you guys will combine the two ideas, Flex Seal+Duck Tape. It sort of reminds me of the trick they used in the Dr. Stone anime where they used a similar concept involving wood-glue from the tree's and paper from the reeds to make pretty sturdy shields to block spears, clubs, and other projectiles.

  • @HappyBeezerStudios

    @HappyBeezerStudios

    the typical zombie apocalypse has a lot of things in common with medieval situations. At least in case of combat. The opponents are pretty much exclusively melee fighters, so a strong physical armor that still allows for mobility is key. And weapons are usable in close range but don't use any ammunition that runs out and don't alert any more enemies with loud noises.

    The thing with regular tape holding better than Flex Seal is that it's more of a fabric, so it helps with structure. Flex Seal is better for a rubbery padding. Also, I prefer to keep all the tape for regular repairs and to seal all holes in the house - that is tremendously invaluable for survival.

    Great video, I love destructive testing videos like this. For a future video you should take another look at Flex Seal, but as armor like you did with the duct tape. You should do what some gun channels have done, take some Flex Seal and cast it into a block, however thick you want or maybe multiple blocks of varying thicknesses, and go to town on it. See how well Flex Seal, by itself, works as armor.
