#barbados #retirement #travel We spent a magical day exploring Fustic House| Luxury getaway in the parish of St Lucy as part of the Barbados National Trust Annual Open House Program.
Fustic House was built in the 18th Century perched on a coral ridge on an 11 acre site with unforgettable views of the coastline. It was redesigned between the late 60's and early 70's by celebrated English theatrical designer Oliver Messel. This designers signature style was his ability to make the indoor and outdoor spaces flow seamlessly which created a stunning, elegant and comfortable family home. Fustic House is a luxury house which can be booked for group stays and special occasions and events and weddings.
The breeze and view were absolutely wonderful so we took the chance to explore the grounds and the amazing plant life. We ate fishcakes and other sweet treats, drank rum punches of course and for me I welcomed the natural juices... I loved the soursop and ginger with no sugar added! They were delicious. We also checked out the local stall vendors selling local arts. We then toured the house but were not allowed to take photos. As the afternoon sun began to drop we then sat down in the shade of the house to listen to the guest speaker explaining the history of this house and highlighting the designer Messel's thoughts and skillsets in the design of this beautiful house, followed by a lively band to end an unforgettable day.
