🚒Are the SCANIA V8 engines in Oshkosh airport fire trucks EPA compliant? Maybe not if they never drive on the highway . Oshkosh began offering Tier 4 final Scania diesel engines in its Striker trucks in 2017. Its 4x4, 6x6, and 8x8 ARFF vehicles can be specified with a Scania DC16 diesel engine rated up to 770 hp. The Striker 8x8 gets two: the pair of rear-mounted Scania low-emission diesel engines create up to 1540 hp. 💡Import a new truck without an engine and get an EPA approved one from an Oshkosh?

Bruce- The best thing we ever bought for our shop was a diesel-fired hot water pressure washer. Pump runs on a gas briggs-like engine, and the burner runs on diesel. You can crank that thing up so it makes steam, but usually just really hot water works the best. We paid $1200 for ours used, but it was in "like new" condition. TRUST ME... it saves a LOT of time over cold water, you rarely need to use chemicals, and in my opinion, should be the second shop tool (after a compressor) a guy should buy. To clean the exterior- just turn down the heat. Just throwing in my 2 cents worth of advice, Buddy.... Happy New Year.

An (IC) Engine takes something in and throws something out if you take the intake transform it to unicorn farts and rainbows to then make it whatever the says it has to be (or better) then there is nothing that should stand in the way. But that's the same as with the import, NAFTA stands for free trade, but you can't import without a f ton of papers - I bet you the other way around it's not required - but in EU you just buy something in EU, you might need - for new parts primarily - to go to your local tax office and pay taxes like VAT adjustment but in the end if's unimportant where you bought something. On rebuilding I would keep everything original. I have always thought that the manufacturer knows best they use certain parts because that is the best way. I have always thought that a truck looks it's best using original parts. The only exception that comes to mind is changing wheels from painted to crome or aluminum. And adding chrome covers on lug nuts and hub covers on the ends of each axle is the other exceptions. I saw too that European trucks being designed more compact are definitely a lot more difficult to service and do work on. Working on the engine or the transmission is definitely more difficult. It's definitely doable it's more of a challenge. The exhaust looked like some thing from star wars however it looked very durable and very well made. I thought it was amazing that you guys picked up the back portion of the engine from the back portion of the turbo? Or it looked that way in the video. Overall an A+ on workmanship in the disassemble process. I think this would be a great truck for large cities in the US such as New York city. I can see why the trucks aren't here in the US the parts availability is the most obvious reason. The second reason is most professional drivers just prefer the longer trucks with the engine being out front instead of under or on the right side of the driver.

31:05 I've worked in many factories in Denmark in maintenance, where we built machines, renovated machines etc. Although an electrician, I've always worked very closely, with blacksmiths, and often done blacksmith work. Here, you would get a huuuuge reprimande, for having the straps so close to the end of the forks. It doesn't even look like you have the fork tower tilted back. Disaster waiting to happen! Solution? Bring a bigger truck, or get fork extenders. There's no excuse! Edit: And not checking your back, before reversing. Tsk tsk...

R730 is also 16liter V8 engine with huge tuning potential. Some truck companies in Poland that drive to Nordic countries has 800-850hp Scania's made from 560 and 620 model (only with computer modifications). But marine versions of Scania V8 has 1200-2000hp from 16liter. One company in South Africa has Scania-Chimera with tuned V8 engine by parts from marine version...it produces 1500hp.

That unit you asked about what it was at (9:40) I believe that´s an airlock cylinder, I´ve seen those mounted close to the locking mechanism on hook lifter trucks and their trailers to secure the "bucket" ,beds or containers you´re hauling for the moment. Might be it´s used for other functions as well, I do not know. Thanks for great content Bruce. -Best regards, Dave (Swedish trucker)

Couldn't you just ask Scania directly about the EPA emission approval certification, correct me if i'm wrong but they have imported to U.S before, and still are with non-road marine/industrial etc. i'm sure they have "common interest" to get vehicles (less than 21yo) imported to U.S? I'm quite sure they would gladly help you with this one. I tried to look more into the EPA regulation, but could find only the 3520-1 form, my lack of more in-depth English language skills is making it hard to really find what i'm looking for.
