    appreciate you making a realistic build video for a production task like video editing. its cool to see the best of the best but most people can't afford that. i appreciate videos like this showing how to build a decent system on a budget and going into the rationale behind certain decisions (like the slower memory).

    A note for some editors, if you work with 10bit h265 at all (only certain consumer cameras, or smartphones, will do this), then intel cpu could be worth it since Intel’s igpu have hardware decoding for this, but no discrete graphics cards do. DaVinci will let you offload decoding to your igpu while using your nvidia card for everything else

    For anyone looking to build a video editing rig: Intel is a monster when it comes to exporting thanks to UHD. Enabling "Multi Monitor mode" allows the dGPU to pass off export tasks (or any tasks that benefits from QuickSync) to the iGPU. I recently found out how well this works and it was pretty impressive.

  • @PainterVierax

    @PainterVierax

    12 күн бұрын

    Well, I guess it depends if Quicksync is relevant in the workflow. No need to focus on it when mostly working on raw video files or using software encoding.

    Makita looking glorious, did you intend to show the iGPU for all the power consumption tests, does resolve not use the add in for rendering?

  • @Real_MisterSir
    @Real_MisterSir12 күн бұрын

    I would have gone with a 14700K cpu for Resolve specifically for its core speed as well as the iGPU drivers that can accelerate the video render workdlow in Resolve, especially in combination with Nvidia drivers. But overall a really nice and tasteful build. There's something about the blacked out no-rgb aesthetics that feels so nice.

  • @sergioav7278

    @sergioav7278

    2 күн бұрын

    Pretty bad choice of a cpu. They have similar performance in davinci and premiere while consuming between 50% and 100% more power. It might require an AiO depending on the work and will be noisier if paired with an air cooler because it will need to dissipate more heat. It has no upgradeability path and the boards are more expensive overall. There's no reason to pick intel for a new build right now besides the discounted 12600kf and the below 90 dollar 12100f.

  • @Real_MisterSir

    @Real_MisterSir

    2 күн бұрын

    @@sergioav7278 Highly depends on the usecase. For professional work, it's generally more favorable to get the thing that does the job well here and now, as usually such rigs won't be swapping out parts every year anyways. And then if you need to upgrade after 2 years or more, doing a cpu+mobo swap at that point wont net you more than an extra 200 bucks anyways, which is hardly a cost-per-year concern. All cost is a budget concern of course, but some aren't as necessary to stress about, compared to what most consumers are affected by more frequently. The Intel iGPU drivers can benefit quite substantially in various tasks and render time when working on h26.. codecs etc, and the larger the content format and the more frequent the render queue is used, the more benefit you gain from it. Anyhow, it's why I stated it as what I personally would have done, as I have my own experience to back it and I know my own needs. Others may have different needs in which an AMD cpu would definitely be more optimal. Yours sounds like such a case, and I of course won't try to discredit your reasoning. Just know that it may be a limited perspective.

    Thermalright coolers are such an incredible value, here in the States I've seen the Frost Spirit 140 down below $30, an incredible value, for from what I've seen is the best cooler in their line up, edging out the Phantom Spirit and Peerless Assassin, even beating out the Frost Commander 140 with 1 more 8mm heatpipe and faster max speed fans at least in noise normalized loads the FC140 seems to pullout ahead at max fan speed but at the expensive of more noise for whatever reason the extra heatpipe doesn't seem to help much or really at all.

I’m fairly confident im sharing lanes, but the second M2 that is sharing with the GPU is a backup/media drive that is never actively in use while gaming. Does that matter? Or is the connection regardless of use enough to degrade GPU performance in games?

    IMHO : I would have chosen the standard RTX 4070, not the Ti SUPER. Why: The Ti SUPER is rated for 285W which is 43% more than the standard RTX 4070 (200W) but it is only 17.6% faster. For video editing you won't see any difference but your wallet will thank you as the difference in price is also excessive.

    Hey @der8auer could you check the new "ROG RYUJIN III WB" waterblock for materials used and thickness of the coating. Im in the market for one. but knowing ASUS history with waterblock - Im sceptical.

    if he edits in davinci and films everything in HVEC H.265, intel is faster than AMD, btw. Puget Systems covered it.

    That PSU is really off, I too run a 7900X (+ RTX4090) on a 750W Platinium. It runs at ~400W during machine learning, the efficiency sweet spot (RTX capped at 65% TDP).

    This is why I'm a fan of Roman, any other computer guy would say, yes gimme that $15K and I'll build you something that will warm up the entire house. But not Roman, he'll build you something appropriate for your application.

    What's your take on going Intel instead for Quicksync? Even Davinci resolve supports that, no? Intel Quicksync enables Hardware encoding/decoding of H.265 footage? I mean, Nvidia can do it too, but not all of it. Like 10bit 4:2:2 and same for 8bit 4:2:2
