I just realized that 33:45 is a callback. Wheatley, much earlier: "Some say you can still hear the screams of [the robots'] replicas. Nobody knows what they're screaming about." i dont find this exact contrast to be so much a deliberate writing choice by valve but rather 2 separate ideas they wanted to communicate with the player. 1 being "yup glados aint happy with wheatley" and 2 being a more depthful glance at the sort of nature of wheatley's perspective of how things go on in aperture based on like rumors and wives tales because he was like... the stupid one who knew nothing and was literally just built with the purpose of being dumb and lousy. But the way they layer in like story and stuff like that with perspective... is something authentic and just well done.

For example, earlier on in the game, Cave Johnson said the portal surfaces were made of moon rocks, then you shoot at the moon at the end. THAT'S Czechov's gun. What you mentioned is called a throwback.

I personally don't think she does. I think she was very much on the verge of passing out due to lack of oxygen, that and the fact that space was acting like a vaccum and sucking everything in. So while Glados pulled her in by one of her arms, Chell didn't have anything to hold on to with her other arm anymore (Not to mention losing strength) so it was just dangling in the direction that's sucking everything up (How she managed to hold on the entire time is beyond me-) However I will admit, I rewatched it again and before they actually are in space, it is honestly very framed in a way where it looks like Chell went to save Wheatley from being YOINKED into space (And I just realized you probably referring to that bit but I already typed all this so uh-) BY THE WAY I'M NOT SAYING YOUR WRONG OR ANYTHING- honestly while I also like to think of it that way, I mainly feel like it works better and makes sense (To me at least) that since she was also being sucked in, Wheatley was her only lifeline and chance at survival, but that's just me. Though both CAN exist but it solely depends on Chell's feelings towards Wheatley in that moment which I have NO idea (Which is probably why I'm more inclined to this explanation ngl) (I'M SO SORRY THIS REPLY ENDED UP BEING SO LONG BTW OOPS-)

It's a really obvious & essential detail to put in there but a lot of writers would've fucked that up for *some* reason. In most stories, the moment a character who isn't gonna be around when the story's over does something villainous, the main character hates them forever even if it was caused by mind control or something similar. Probably because it's easier to write badly on purpose & ruin the main character than it is to write complex emotional reactions to awful situations.

GlaDos: (earlier insinuating she's overweight repeatedly) Wheatley: "You're a fatty" GlaDos: "She's not FAT!" me: awwww....

Some popular misconceptions: - The white walls are not made out of lunar dust, why would Aperture make poisonous walls. Also, they're already in the old Aperture which means they were being made before Cave bought some space rocks. - Lunar Dust is "the best" material for a portal conductor but, is not the only one. White paint works too. Also, a very realistic theory among the fanbase is that Cave isn't dying because of Lunar Dust, it's from lung cancer. There are so many ashtrays around old Aperture and honestly it's not that hard to imagine an eccentric billionaire constantly smoking and thus experiencing health problems and then blaming the first thing that he comes across. It wouldn't make sense for them to make White Gel if it's deadly and then just casually expose all the employees to it.

​@@ThatLadAndre Yeah, but the game's recently turned _9 years old,_ anyone who engages in a variety of games would have played it by now. Under the circumstances, he made a pretty good series of it. Gave the game the love it deserved and provided enough energy to make up for the lack of genuine reactions. It's much better than pretending to go in blind and faking all the good reactions :/ There are blind playthroughs out there, if you want em, but they're old. You can't expect many gamers to have the chance to go in blind into such a well-loved game after all this time.

The fact that Jack keeps trying to bring turret friends through emancipation grills and they keep getting disintegrated and he always is sad about it makes me happy. He's like a dog that keeps trying to bring long sticks through a doorway but can't because the stick is too big.

Shooting the portal on the moon was so epic. The game even told us about the moon and portals in the Cave Johnson old aperture area, it was foreshadowing.

The giant "Animal King" turret being a part of the final song and having a really deep bass part never fails to make me laugh. Also, Glados' voice actor Ellen McLain is an opera singer and is the one singing the lyrics in the turret song at the end.

The story of GLaDOS is actually pretty sad. Makes me feel bad for her

when GLaDOS said "thank god your allright" made my heart swell

I love the Cara Mai Addio sequence, if you translate the lyrics she is essentially saying "Goodbye my Daughter" and I thought that was sweet. I don't think there is any evidence that Caroline was literally Chell's mom but I think at this point GLaDOS cares about Chell as though she were her daughter but she knows she has to let her go to end their destructive cycle.

I know I’m 2 years late, but yeah, she most likely is. It’s definitely the farthest along in the half life series, 50,000 something years in the future. The combine likely left. Another thing I saw online pointed out is that after thousands of years the facility would have collapsed and rusted which leads me to believe the combine actually came to the facility but blew a lot of it up. Also, the fact that the space portion doesn’t have any spaceships or noticeable differences makes me also think the combine left an abandoned planet.

@@theonlyeye1170 Didn't GLaDOS in the beginning of the game at one point when she was taunting Chel and continuously going to the surface that she saw some humans up there? This could very well be GLaDOS taunting Chel and making up stuff to get in her head, but who knows it is a possibility. Also, if in the half life series, the characters and survivors of humanity are strong enough to overcome the danger on planet earth it is widely possible for society to be rebuilt, or in another chance it is possible for an evolutionary reset of humanity. I'm not too sure about the standing of Earth 50k years in the future, and I haven't played the half life games either. This being said I do feel like you would know if the danger of the planet was still there during the game. As you said, Earth had no noticeable changes. Again though, I haven't played the half life games and Valve has never really elaborated on the state of the world 50k years in the future. I'm simply exploring potential possibilities for what could be, and the possibility that humanity still exists.

I love the Foreshadowing earlier in the game, where Cave Johnson is talking about how he bought 70 million dollars worth of Moon rocks, that they ground up into gel to make the Conversion gel, which is what the portals can be shot onto. Then Chell realizes, that it means the portals can literally be shot onto the Moon!

I think portal 3 should be about the official downfall of the facility where things happen that are outside of glados hands and after a big explosion chell goes back to save glados and in the process learns that the cores were also people who worked at aperture or somthin

fans speculate that portal 2 is generated in half life universe too, but the reason why Aperature science has little-to-no existence was because they build the organization underground to prevent all possible leaks to outside sources, some workers are even part of black mesa including cave johnson himself, it's like a counterpart to black mesa without the shady backgrounds.

also very fun fact: the end of this game isnt a rendered part, its just a video that auto plays by command because of a hidden trigger that you hit in the darkness going up with the elevator. its freaking awesome how they programed this game!

Kibbo Derain So do I! It’s my favorite part of watching him play a series like this! I would love to see Seán revisit The Last of Us, because he wasn’t in the best headspace when he originally recorded it. Seán has told us numerous times how miserable he was living in his parents’ Cabin. I think he would have a very different perspective on the game. Particularly regarding the dynamic between Joel and Ellie. 💚🤗🤗💚

@@emilygrasley9161 possibly, but what she said was also in reference to the fact that no matter what she tries, she simply can't come up with or figure out how to kill Chel (she had no problem killing thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, before Chel, and she was definitely trying to kill her...) she only realized that she didn't hate her til the end, so, more than likely she meant physically, because she did say _hard_, not impossible... her statement was in reference to every time she did try to kill her, and the only reason the turrets didn't kill her was because GLaDOS *then* realized she didn't want to kill her... GLaDOS had you in the perfect spot and went "Oh, forget it, she'll just somehow survive... it's not worth it"

Also it gives you a hint about how you CAN shoot out at the moon by Cave saying "Ground up Lunar dust".

18:52 fun fact: if you look really closely at the exit, you can see P-body standing by the door and run through it. There are other clips of some close-up shots of him on KZread so you can see it better

I love how if Rick (the adventure sphere) has enough dialogue go, he’ll want to have a cool line, so he’ll talk about making Wheatley say “you have been a thorn in my side long enough” and if that dialogue with Rick happens, Wheatley actually says the line after attaching the fact core

You know it’s all nice and heart warming until you realize that Glados is the only familiar face you know everybody else is dead

Fun fact: in the Menu after completing the game, Wheatley floats about in space while the Space Obsessed core floats around with him. This is due to Wheatley being soo dense, he has developed his own orbit

I actually remember that final battle. Me: I can't shoot ANYWHERE ELSE! I can see the sky, and the moon... Me: ...No. This CAN'T POSSIBLY WORK! (shoots at the moon) Me: Hey...that worked! (two seconds later) Me; OH NO IT WORKED!!!

fun thing to think about when the computer says how long chell has been asleep, the first time it says the number of days, and wheatley only ever mentions examples of people sleeping for a couple months, so the computer might not even be programmed to comprehend numbers as big as the amount of time chell has been asleep.

I love that the Turret Opera is in Italian, and the round soprano Turret sings “Oh ciel!” which is Italian for “Oh heaven!” and it pronounced “Chell.” The reason you can shoot a Portal at the moon is because the portal-compatible surfaces are made of crushed up moon rocks! And let’s be honest, Portal 3 is Blue Sky.

Wheatley: becomes leader “So anyway I started blasting” Don’t like it’s perfect 400 lol

When you compare this game with the current ones Jack's played on the channel, you realize that Portal wasn't just good. It was ahead of its time.

Fun Fact: At the very, very bare minimum, GLaDOS watched the last 2 minutes of her own death like 36,000 times. An it's way longer depending on the time between the first time you wake and the second time you wake up.
