    The 80D is a rock solid FullHD photo/video camera. Even with other features, the 90D's most significant update is 4K. If you don't require 4K, then the 80D is an absolute joy to use. If you only want photos, however, I still recommend the 7DII over the 80D, especially for action and outdoors.

    last month I purchase 80D second hand... reason? old 7D controls esp missing flipping touch screen... I just wanted similar body to my 6D mk II which is supported by LR 6.14 image quality is definitetely better then orig 7D, but still visible worse then 6D... AF is slower and reliable then 7D, also is not so solid... nevermind, I'm happy with 80D, byt have to say next body will be mirrorless of R6 quality

    @@envycreative Ty ❤ There's few straight away.. Just got Sigma 150-600mm and learning to hold it stable is the first struggle 😅😂 I was actually wondering if it's safe to carry it just via camera body cs it's so heavy but I guess it's not even heavy lens compared to Canon's own tele objectives. What lens would you recommend me to get, I have Canon 17-55mm 2.8 and with Sigma 150-600mm there's a huge gap I can't reach. Animals, nature/landscapes and horse sports/portraits is my favorite things to photograph?

    @@mariakylanpaa9795 We def would not recommend just holding the lens by the camera body. You could get a plate for the bottom of your camera with speed rails, so you could put a lens support on the rails to hold up the lens, although the 150-600 does already have a tripod mount, which you can just mount the actual lens on a tripod and have the camera body floating. Otherwise, we actually like the Canon 75-300. It does have a high f-stop, but it is very light and small, and can do the job great. Hope this helps!

    I jonesed for a Sony A7RII for a few years until last year I got a great deal on a used one. What I found though was that heading out the door the camera I consistently grabbed for all kinds of shooting was a Canon 6D. Great images, great to use, and does a lot of things pretty well. I found I never used the high MP Sony (battery hog too). Today I traded it for a clean Canon 80D with the battery grip. One of those, "Yeah, I wouldn't mind one of those." The articulated screen and the 1080P 60FPS were features I wanted but obviously weren't on the 6D. Not to mention for movement the AF is a bit better on the 80D. Mic and headphone jacks don't hurt either. Having APS-C to compliment my full frame gives me a little more reach with my 70-300mm f2.8. I was able to make nice 18x24s with a Sony a6000. I'm pretty sure the 80D with my glass will have no trouble either. It was possibly go with the 6DMKII in the full frame for an articulating screen. However the 80D will fill the needs and compliment my 6D and I got some money back on the trade as well. Good glass, decent camera, and have or learn skills and develop an eye for the image. That's the not-so-secret trick to making strong images. I'm from the old film days when I made a living with a Nikon FM. Pretty neat camera the 80D.

I bought a Sony mirrorless, but went back to the older Canon because I wanted to enjoy taking photos rather than scrolling endless menus to change minimal settings. Older Canons remain my go-to for stills & color science...Fuji also has great color science. Lastly, Canon's user interface is second to none IMHO. Be well.

  • @envycreative

    Yep! I can definitely work for recording actor auditions and taking macro photos (but yes, you would need a macro lens). Also, the difference between 1080p and 4K is just a difference in resolution. So, on 4K video, if you re-frame or zoom in, it will still look crisp. On 1080p video, if you re-frame or zoom in, it will look blurrier, compared to 4K footage. Hope this helps. Thanks! Feel free to let us know if you have any questions!

    Technicolor (yes, THAT "Technicolor" you see in movie credits) offers a FREE downloadable cinema-style Picture Style called Cinestyle. It offers a far superior experience than the built-in ones. Although my 5DIV has Canon C Log, I keep it on the Cinestyle when shooting alongside my 80/90D non-Clog bodies for easier color matching. Hello. It's been many years since the 80D/77D came out, but I'm asking myself the same question. Now I have a Canon 600D, and I no longer lack its capabilities (of course 😅). I choose between 77D and M50. My main task is to shoot photos (I want to shoot commercials: portraits, custom family scenes, and some street photography). The video is most likely secondary (although I don’t know for sure). There is no money for a full frame yet. What do you recommend from these two devices? The bad ergonomics of the M50 and the lack of control buttons, as it is on the 77D, scares me. However, they tell me from everywhere: "2023, buy a mirrorless camera (they mean M50)"

  • @envycreative

    @envycreative

    Жыл бұрын

    If you are doing photography, then the M50 is very solid! However, if you are doing ANY kind of video, I would not recommend the M50, since it has some of the worst rolling shutter we've ever seen on a camera. Plus, the crop factor for 4K footage is crazt. If you are looking for a compact camera that does great video, the we would suggest the M6, since it does great video and there is no cropping when doing 4K. We are actually going to be coming out with a new video soon about this camera, since this is now our dedicated TikTok and Vertical Video camera. Thanks! We just used the "neutral" color profile since this gives you the most control over the image. And no, we normally don't use sharpness in post, since it makes it a little too sharp for our tastes. Canon cameras usually have softer images than, say, Sony cameras. So, if you need tack-sharp images, then Sony is probably the way to go. But, we like Canon since we think the image looks a little more natural. I love it as a still and time-lapse camera and I will shoot some video with it, but not all that I had hoped. I'm probably going for a EOS R for my budget as my B/gimbal cam going forward. We would say it really depends on the lenses you want to use and the look you are going for. We stick with Canon since most of our lenses are EF mount lenses. But, Sony lenses are great too! You just have to think about what ecosystem you want to invest in in the long term. Yes, you can buy lens adapters, but just using the native lenses is much easier. The other thing you would need to keep in mind is the look you are going for. Canon cameras usually produce a less sharp but more natural-looking image. Not to say that Sony cameras don't produce a natural-looking picture, but their image is much sharper and crisp with more contrast and colors. We haven't played a lot with FujiFilm cameras, but we hear they are good too, based on what you need. Hope this helps and feel free to let us know if you have any other questions!

    Thanks for the question! We personally have not used the 90D, but based on the specs, if you already have the 80D, then it probably wouldn't be worth the full upgrade, but if you are deciding between the two, then the 90D would be better, since it has double the max ISO, more megapixels, and a higher frame rate for burst shooting. But, it does come at a higher price. Here's a good comparison chart we found - bit.ly/3E3qk40. Hope this helps and feel free to let us know if you have any other questions!

    We love the Canon cameras, but Fuji makes good cameras as well. I think for the long run, if you don’t mind a little older camera, the Canon 80D is good since you can start investing in Canon EF lenses. But, if you had to choose a second choice, maybe look into Sony cameras. Reason being is that all Sony cameras use the same mount, whereas Canon where EF lenses work on most cameras (including using adapters) and are staring to phase in the use of RF lenses into new cameras. Man, 80D and old camera, I remember when this was the hot new successor to the 70D and the king of vlogging cameras. Canon does make some good stuff, although I wonder if for run-and-gun vlogging there may be better alternatives. I find the full DSLR a bit bulky for an everyday carry and with a 3.5mm jack external mic, it still retains some static compared to xlr. Also that 30 min recording limit is a tad annoying, but then again the quality is so much better than anything smaller like a GoPro or Powershot, so I dunno yet; still sticking with the DSLR for now. Thanks for the video! It's always fun to watch, so keep up the good work!

    The 90D makes numerous improvements over the 80D in both photo and video specs and features. But the 80D was already so capable, the single biggest thing you're lkely to notice is the 4K. For photos, there's more resolution and the AF is a bit beefier, but it's a small degree of improvement compared to, say, the 5DIV, which features a larger sensor, more robust AF, pro grade built, etc. I use the 80D and 90D side by side and find the difference for photography between them neglible in practice.

    @@pauledwards5607 The 90D is an interest beast. It was inevitable that as the technology matured, the 7D and x0D lines would ultimately collide. Many of us were hoping for a 7D Mark III, which probably would hae been all of what ended up in the 90D plus the advanced features and body of the 7DII. It would have been the finest APS-C camera ever built... at the same time Canon wants everyone to go mirrorles. The 90D is a true mirror/mirrorless hybrid. The extra resolution shows off everything in greater detail, for better or worse, that's all. I use my 90D wih a loupe/eyecup over the large screen, a FAR better viewing experince to any standard electronic viewfinder (works beautifully in ANY lighting condition, too). I don't recall the last time I use the optical viewfinder.

Canon cameras tend to have a nice and natural color science. We personally like Canon, but we also love our ZV-1, but we don’t have to buy lenses for that. • @envycreative

    It depends on what you need and your budget. If you have a low budget and just need something to start, if you want a zoom lens and don’t care about depth of field (or a blurry background) but want image stabilization, the Canon 18-55 kit lens is good. If you care about depth of field but don’t care about image stabilization (like if you’re keeping it on a tripod) then the Canon 50mm f1.8 is great. If you have a higher budget, if you want a great all-around lens and don’t mind a little less of a blurry background, the Canon 24-105 is a pretty standard lens for any lens kit. Or, if you want a prime lens, then Canon 35mm f2 is great, since it also has image stabilization (this is personally the one we usually use for filming on our 80D. Hope this helps and let us know if you have any other questions!

    It's frustratingly close to great. The Dual Pixel autofocus was a game-changer at the time. I know it was in the 70D and 7D Mark II as well, but the improved implementation with the flip-out touch screen made things a lot easier. The headphone jack was a great addition over the 70D. The lack of a flat profile meant the camera was leaving a lot of dynamic range on the table. And Magic Lantern is not available for this model to get around that. So, there's not much flexibility for grading the footage. Good, sharp 1080p video is plenty of quality for me, but unfortunately, this camera produces soft, muddy 1080p video.
