The Challenge: Use a Canon 80D and kit 18-135 lens for a "5 Min Portrait" / "Real World Review" at Norman Porter Jean Company. Similar to past "5 Min Portraits" I had never done a photo shoot with the Canon 80D or kit lens. This is honestly what photography is all about, it's all about being able to pick up any camera, any lens at any time and get professional results.

@@froknowsphoto hi! I'm debating whether to buy the canon 80d or the Nikon 7500 as my first DSLR I want to 90% of the time use it for only photos and maybe 10% of the time for video Now I am a beginner But I dont want to buy a low end camera (nor a super high end) and then have to sell it and upgrade. I want one where I will of course have to spend this certain amount of money, but I can grow my skills with it and then when I reach the limits of this camera i can simply just upgrade to a higher end camera. Can you please help me out?

@@DarkestKnight2424 I was surprised with the camera that you wanted to use, But I recommend Nikon D5600 as a Good primary Image shooting and D7500 is Much Better but I Personally think that investing in Lenses on D5600 Body is Much More better than Buying an expensive body thus will result in Having a Hard time to Get Some Good or professional Lenses. (The reason why I Recommended Nikon is Because It is Better In skin tones for Portraits and Actually has Good Color than Most Entry level or Maybe close Range for The D5xx Series pf Nikon compare to Canon cameras.

Jared, this video was incredible. It's not often that us viewers get live and detailed insight into photoshoots like this. It was awesome to see that you still make some minor miscalculations You don't realize how valuable that is to us new photographers! Usually we only see your best shots, but seeing you progress through exposures and find your shots was so profoundly helpful. Thank you so much for this! Can't wait for the workflow! 😉

I have been a professional video producer for local and network telelvion for almost 35 years. I started using DSLRs about 4 years ago. As a production/creative manager at a local television station, I've moved my creative production department from using traditional camcorders to Canon's Cinema series cameras.... from videography to cinematography. Our station uses an 70D for video too. Personally, I own a Canon 70D and Canon 80D. You've confirmed what I have experienced using an 80D. I think the Canon 80D is the best all round DSLR for video. I use and own pro lenses too. But I am very impressed with the 80D's EFS 18-135 kit lens. You created on of the best videos for real world use!

There's nothing quite so magical as reality portraits. I'm lucky enough to spend much if my working life doing exactly this kind of work, and I quite often use kit lenses - mainly because of their convenience. They're produced to be a "jack of all trades" for users who don't necessarily know what to do with them. However, in the hands of someone who DOES know how to get the best out of them, the results are indistinguishable from MUCH more expensive glass under normal conditions. Loved the video - so much common sense, and no ranting..... brilliant!

Great video! I really like the amount of confidence this gives me to be able to use my Canon 70D with the 18-135. Lets me know that stunning images are within anyones grasp, no matter what camera they have.

Great shots. I really enjoy more candid shoots such as this, shots always come out better than staged, stiff looking, none true moments. Interesting subject as well. Really got me wanting to do some more shoots like this.
