We need to talk about STROKE recovery. It's a Game Changer.

Have you heard on certain former news channels that a prominent politician is fine? Dr. Kelly gives you simple truths about strokes and recovery . An individual may recover from a CVA (cerebrovascular accident), but often they do not full recover. Brain tissue that is lost is never recovered, though alternate neural pathways may occur.

Crazy, he won. I am no longer a Democrat and not a Republican. I am just tired of all the lies...none of this should be political. We just need the truth.

You'll never convince me that the people of Penn voted for John fetterwoman over Dr Oz. I understand they might not like Dr Oz for whatever reason. That does not explain why you would vote for an incoherent stroke victim.

This is why I don't watch tv any more. They had ads on that said you could recover fully from a stroke and I knew it was a lie. Also, kids get strokes and heart attacks too. I just couldn't listen to it.

I have been a physical therapist for 31 years. I pray that I die rather than surviving a severe CVA since I fear the long term suffering I have witnessed over death.

Some of my most emotionally trying patients were those that were kind and loving, and always said “yes, Dr. Kelly“ but no matter what I advised them, they would not change their ways in situations like this.

I'm no medical expert, but I watched my grandfather deteriorate following a cataclysmic series of medical incidents. First, he had an aortic aneurysm. They operated. They repaired the aneurysm, but he suffered a massive stroke on the operating table. I type a lot of words a minute, sometimes 20 or 30,000 words a day. I don't look at my keyboard. I couldn't tell you if you what the layout of letters, function keys and punctuation marks is. My fingers know. I don't have to think. It's effortless. That's what speech is. It's effortless. Now imagine being given a keyboard where all the keys are in new positions. And you only have one hand to type with. And you've been forced to wear glasses that blur your vision so you can only sort of see what you've typed. That was what my grandfather was like after a year of intensive therapy. He never got any better than that. I doubt Fetterman will get much better than he has, either.

I worked in a Acquired Brain Injury Rehab Unit for 20 years and saw many, many people recovering from strokes. This chap obviously has expressive and receptive aphasia. Essentially he doesn't understand the spoken word when he hears it and he struggles to form coherent sentences without the help of a visual aid. It's possible there have been changes to his personality and he may have less control over his temper and not filter his replies. The damage is permanent and he may learn coping strategies or compensate in other ways but from what I've seen he really doesn't have the mental acuity to cope with being a politician. I was very surprised when he was voted in. That's not being 'disabilist' but sometimes you have to accept reality. His performance in front of the audience with his opponent was dreadful and I could hardly watch. I don't know how he can answer questions without having forwarning of them - perhaps the Democrats just want mentally challenged candidates so they can be easily manipulated. It's hard to believe Biden got in but he did and everyone just looks the other way when he talks nonsense or tries to exit the wrong way. Still it's very entertaining for us Brits.

Thank you. This is roughly what I thought, too- without the benefits of being a medical expert. - Sure, yes, bummer- but now's not the time for him to seek (re)election. Take care of yourself! Step down, step aside, do what's good and needed for your health. Yes, I get it, bad timing. But how does the graveyard look from where you are standing? 😞

Yes, I agree with you Dr. Kelly that his brain function & speech were not still normal & going by what you said & he said they are highly likely to continue. A stressful job as a politician is hardly going to help. I think it was very stupid of him to not have heeded his Drs advice 5 years earlier.

I will grant you that it is a tough decision. I have had to help pilots deal with whether they would get off certain meds or do certain things in order to return to their jobs as airline pilots, when doing those things could harm their mental and physical health.

I do not understand how someone who clearly exhibits signs of cognitive damage was elected to a high government position. the only logical conclusion to draw here is that the numbers of votes reported in favor of John Fetterman is not accurate and fraudulent. I wish this guy a full recovery but, he is not fit to be a United States senator. Politics have no place in medical science.
