    Tranq darts for the rifle should be you next engram, it will told level up your taming. Also split your near stacks up to spoil more meat for narcotics production. The spikes will not great for big dinosaurs it will keep the low level mobs off you and your taming dinosaurs long enough for you to shoot them.

    literally any carnivore and most omnivores are better than doing it by hand with a pick. the efficiency is lower, but they can gather faster and don't consume other resources to repair, and since you'll typically be riding them, you don't have to dismount, harvest, remount repeatedly by far the best tame early on is the moschop, if you get lucky it is a quick, easy passive tame that is a great fighter (only if ridden, which can be done from jump)

    When trying to tame, the dino gets hungry while unconcious. So if you leave it without food, the hunger goes down and it eats a lot all at once when you put food in its inventory. So if you dont have enough food to tame with dont put any food at all in their inventory but just let them starve out and come back with food and they will tame very quickly. You can also kind of cheese a tame this way. If you get far enough away, it unloads the dino and the dinos surrounding it so it's not in danger. But it still starves out. So you can be safe, the dino can be safe, then run back when it has starved out a lot and it'll tame instantly instead of needing to babysit it. Just make sure to watch the torpor. This is particularly effective if you have a bird... just fly off then come back. It's also beneficial because if the dino takes damage but hasn't eaten anything yet, it wont harm its taming effectiveness (like if another dino comes along and tries to eat it). Speaking of torpor, always bring regular narcotics with you. Some things will need more narcotics while asleep, and if you hit them with arrows while unnconvious it ruins their taming effectiveness (the extra levels they get). So you need to put narcotics in their inventory and force feed them the narcotics to keep up the torpor. Gigas for example require literally hundreds of extra narcotics after they are already knocked out. But in genearl, just keep a stack with you at all times. It will come in handy, trust me.

    A few tips: Most creatures have a secondary and sometimes tertiary attack/ability. For example, raptors have a leap that can be used to grapple smaller creatures and a sort of battle cry when in a group of 3 or more which raises attack and defense for a duration. The secondary can be used with the RMB and the tertiary can be used with C. Tranqs should generally be spaced out to allow the narcotics to set in before shooting again, there is an instant amount of torpor dealt and a debuff that raises the torpor further. For some reason, not all creatures have head hitboxes and generally only smaller creatures will take critical damage to the head. Some creatures also have armor in certain zones. Triceratopses will take less damage to the face because of the bony endoskeleton. Traps are an easy and relatively cheap way to tame creatures effectively. These can be as simple as a foundation with walls made completely out of single doorframes and a ramp that leads seamlessly up into the top. These allow you to KO the creature safely and prevent them from fleeing when high on torpor. Certain whistles, like passive, follow, or stay, can be bound to keys for on the fly commands. This can help you control where your creatures go and pull them out of danger.

    @@666Daheretic Love barys, the only downside i can think of is the thing where all your other carnivores eat the fish meat first often leaving piscivores and their offspring with no food. I have to have all my fish eaters on their own trough some distance away.

  • @SpikesOmega
    @SpikesOmega7 ай бұрын

    Some suggestions and hopefully life saving details! 1. Make a feeding trough. it can show you the area dinos will be fed in. You MIGHT want to fence the area off to keep them safe and to stop them wandering off if they protect themselves. Just dump the correct type of food for everything in the covered area. Set it and forget it basically. (on that note tame a bronto and you will have MOUNTAINS of fruit ... and wood, with pretty much every tail swing) NOTE: You CAN put a trough in the water to feed aquatic tames! 2. If you intend to do anything in the water, get a Meg. Actually get multiple. This lead in to tip 3. 3. Dino packs! Multiple dinos working together is ALWAYS preferable. Try to get multiple of the same kind for this. (just make sure they are set to follow you. tracking them down is sometimes freaking impossible.) 4. There is really only one flying dino that can carry a lot of weight. Its pretty big. You'll know it when you see it. The Redwood area is pretty good for a perm base location since its more or less a central location. However that means you wont have easy access to oil. Be ready to set up at least one satellite base for fuel refining/usage if you do set up in the redwood area.

    I'm sure someone's already said it, but the Diplodocus doesn't do damage when it bonks you with its head. They're just really friendly and trying to play, and it doesn't realize how obnoxious it's being. Also, having a spare trike to carry extra crap for you when you're coming back from a harvest and don't want your primary trike to be super weighed down and slow to return to your base. The chalicotherium can be a sort of mobile artillery, hurling boulders at your target, but they take barrels of beer to tame. Edit: Also, I would vote for the place you ended the day at for being the best base location, at least on the grounds of convenience. It's the central-most option, with less travel time to go in any direction, and there seems to be plenty of room on that hilltop to build what you want. With the right walls and spikes thrown down, the local spawns shouldn't be anything your tames can't handle. The other spots are a bit easier on the eyes for having a good view, but I'd take practicality over a pretty scene any day of the week. (Yes, I'm totally fun at parties. Who said otherwise?)

    I'm just gonna update as I watch. Excess tames are extremely neccessary in Ark. If you don't want a dino, still keep it. The trike and ankylo are 2 blocks wide so they will not fit through that opening in the boat. If you bring in a ton of resources like with the narcoberries, they will only stack to a certain size so click again to check cuz that will make about 20 more with what you had. Another thing, speed and stamina are important for your character for situations like retrieving your stuff and running from dinos. Everything has massively increased spoil timers when they're in dinos. The chalicos are good for beer and berries. You NEED to change every dinos attack priority when you tame them cuz it will auto attack anything that attacks you or your stuff. Also, learning the shortcuts for ALL passive/attack aggressors helps a lot. Check your boat for damage, and the blocks attached bc they have definitely taken damage. I like allosaurs way way way more than T-rexs but T-rexs are of course the OG. Allo's have a massive buff when together and bleed opponents.

I think bary may have been set to seek food, he killed a fish first thing.....or he was bugged. The attacking target disposition would not make him attack unless something attacked you or your raft first or you attacked something. All the individual whistle commands are not easy to remember but you can remember apostrophe and that brings up a whistle command wheel. In that kind of situation whistle passive then follow and your tame will return to you if you are quick enough.....practice helps for speedy commands.

I think if u hold one of these keys u can get a wheel to use and select one type of passive called ‘passive flee’ and this is good if u get knocked off they will not fight and get away from danger if they can. Instead of dragging and dropping from one inventory to another, you can hover your cursor over an item and press 'T' to instantly transfer said item. Holding Shift or CTRL before hitting 'T' will adjust how many items of a stack are transferred (and also works if you hold them before dragging and dropping). I'll add more shortcuts if I remember them. Edit: You get more meat with a pickaxe than a hatchet. Useful for taming food before you get up to kibble.

    Couple quick things. Depending on the tame the type of food you use can have better or worse taming effectiveness, more or less levels essentially. If you see an aura on some dinos and its more yellow than red then thats a pairing bonus from bonded dinos so they get big buffs, the allosaurus' for example. As for XP, you're right that you're leveling exceptionally fast. At this point you should normally expect to be in the 20-30s not the 80s but its not that big a deal if you don't care about it. I recommend learning the whistle commands so you can set dino states from a distance. This also allows you to call dinos to you.

    The settings are taking some getting used to in ASA for me. When I first started I thought I chose medium, wanted to see what changed and I think XP must of been on 2 as it was insanely fast. I tinkered a bit more and 1 xp and mostly hard settings feels right to me though I'm used to a bit slower progression honestly so I might bring it down a bit more. It's definitely different though... I've been trapped in my base on a peninsula for a couple hours with 100+ lvl spino's on either side just wreaking havoc up and down the beach area's lol

You can put torches on the saddle of your mount too, much more effective like that. :) But honestly Tem, Herbivore Island is hands down the best main base location. You don't have to worry about guarding your tames, that valley makes a great Dino Pen, the Lagoon can be secured to make a good pen for aquatic tames. Then you can build satellite bases elsewhere until you get a Quetz to make yourself a great mobile base. :)

    If you hold down T you get the whistle options wheel. Ideally you want to whistle passive but remember when doing so all animals around you will go passive, just make sure to whistle passive and not passive flee or they will run away when threatened. Additionally there are hot keys you can see next to actions like pressing A while hovering over crafting recipes will make max count , O when hovering over a selected item will drop on ground, shift and click will transfer 5 per click or CTRL will do 1 each click. If you look at a Dino and press T will call that Dino to follow you and y to call them off while J call all your tames to follow you and U call them all off . When Dino’s are close by and you press period (.) your Dino’s will attack at an animal you re looking at (wild or enemy) I hope this helps on your journey One thing to note when they are on passive all Dino’s stay still even when are attacked so passive is nice when you transporting with boats so they don’t jump off and get killed

  • @gregorskiff
    @gregorskiff7 ай бұрын

    When taming you do not have to feed a ko'd tame right away. Some call this starve taming and claim it is faster....that's not true. Once knocked out the food stat always decreases at the same rate depending on dino type. Once it eats any taming food you have to keep food on it throughout the process or you begin losing bonus levels (affinity/effectiveness). Starve taming allows you to find the best quality and enough taming food while the food stat timer is ticking down and also set up a defensive perimeter on a rare or high value tame. Starve taming can also conserve your kibble/mutton/primes if the tame is damaged or killed.

    "Why is this keep happening?" Simple: You need to learn the controls :3 If you use T to whistle to a dino to follow you, they might disengage battle. Also if its the same keybinding than Ark:SE than you can hold T to get most of the whistles in a radial menu. Just whistle your Dino on passive and follow and he will come out of the water, so there is no need to jump after him. I am not sure why your Bary went down there, i guess something attacked you before you jumped off (which was cut out), so he was still in fighting mode but restrained from being mounted. Some Dinos have the ability to grab you off the saddle, thats what happened when you thought your flyer was dead, the Bary just plucked you from your dino.

    Raft recommendation. On the back get rid of rail and either add ramp or stairs down into water. Dinos walk onto ramp real easy. Also killing alphas will give you nice items in your inventory so kill any you see. You should do a poll for the base location. If you go near the volcano there's a nice cliff area I always build at. However, if you can swim out and find a Leeds without using your raft you can scrape it for free Prime fish meat. Trikes are good for berries, but a Stego is much better. For the bigger dinos, you can build a sort of a cage for them. Using stone gate doorframes, you can set up like 5-6 evenly spread to create a sort of cage. And covering the ends with the gate doors. With your Pteradon, you should pump mostly stamina, but you want to pump weight to 200 first that way you wont have as much trouble, they're scouting dino's only. You don't really need melee damage at all on your own person since you're not on a PvP server leave that for your dino's fortitude used to be 20 on ASE to not freeze at night but may of been tweaked, Tranq darts from the rifle are probably not at the required level and also need an engram so search in your engrams just to confirm.

    Go kill a few trilobites, then put the oil in the preserving bin with some meat (prime meat is even better). Wait a bit and you will have jerky (or prime jerky). You will want that for longer trips. Also, as to base location: that peaceful cove area you are considering is a "safe" zone. Occasional roaming sarco and dilos are the only real enemies, but it is sooooo far from everything except the first cave. My personal favorite base location is hidden lake, top right hand quarter of the map, not far from carno island. It has everything you need to succeed, you just have to keep clearing out the riffraff (pronounced occasional raptor or troodon).
