Yeah a lot of players don't know. Because the story is hidden through the explorer notes. Some if not a lot of players have little interest in reading them, so a lot of people don't know. However, as your progress through the DLCs, the story being present becomes quite prevalent. Especially with the end cutscnes of Ark Genesis Parts 1 and 2

@RikoLime

As Ark came out and grew, adding DLC, its clear looking back now: there was no real story at first, but the makers were clever enough to leave little tidbits here and there -- things that, at the start, just adding to the little collectible-personality some of us have, but left them enough of an opening to grow on. By Scorched Earth, it was clear they planned to continue this tradition on the new map. I think somewhere between Scorched Earth (or during, as they developed the Explorers Notes), they realize both that their game was EXTREMELY popular, and that they could actually build a plot within it... if they did it right and continued utilizing the Explorer's Notes, as well as simply adding ruins in the game.

Man, this felt like a movie. I mean the cinematics, the entire story, the music, and the fact that it wasn’t just someone telling a story, but instead the most detailed and explained chain of events I have ever heard. This really helped me understand the lore of Ark Survival Evolved, because before I thought it was just a game with no meaning and the only objective was to beat the bosses and move on. I just want to give Ned and his team a huge appreciation as this video was most likely very difficult and very time consuming to make. But besides all of that, I guess I will see you all in Ark Survival Ascended.

More effort went into this video, than wildcard or snailgames put into the official arks story/universe lol.. In other games, story is like 70% of the game (edit: and story is the most time consuming and quite expensive part of game dev, other devs hire entire teams of people to write the story and do the voices etc... Ark just sent all of their employees home with homework and said, you all gotta write a page of story along these guidelines and hand it in asap), lol, in ark its like 1% and the player is left to make the story themselves, so basically they can pump out content with minimal effort cos the biggest set back of game development would be writing the stories and needing the voice actors and characters in game to give you the story, but ark bypassed that, the game is just a map, and mechanics, but sells for top dollar and theyve scammed everyone atleast twice now... first with the first season pass as they claimed it would give access to all future content and second revealing ark 2 and then years later revealing ASA but without mentioning ark2, then like a year later, scrapping ark evolved official servers and support, and saying arc 2 isnt likely to happen, but here is ASA.. An identical game in gameplay but better graphics lol... Basically saying, this is ark 2 but when we realised our community was starting to clue on to our scam, we started to jump ship but here you go, have the half completed and renamed 'Ark 2' as ASA for big $$ and BTW, we're closing ark evolved so if you want to play official you have to buy ASA and start again lol

Words cannot put into perspective of how much I appreciate this video. Years ago I had gotten Ark to give it a try, but dumped it almost as soon as I picked it up because of how confusing it was. For a good while after, I struggled every day to find some sort of guide or story that could help me understand at least a morsel of what Ark was about and what my objective was. From day 1 I was already really invested into the lore, as I heavily enjoy these kind of sci fi elements that Ark has so masterfully woven together. The only downfall to this majestic story though, is how the information is delivered and I believe that's where a lot of the new players end up dropping Ark at. Today I thought "Hey, why not give Ark lore another try, the wiki was too hard to read so maybe KZread will finally have something after so long." and it did. Your video. I was reluctant at first, seeing how it was almost 2 hours long, but as soon as I started I realised that this was no tutorial, nor was it a guide, but it was a whole damn cinematic movie so expertly woven together by providing information and entertainment side by side, integrated seamlessly. I don't very rarely feel sad about coming to the end of KZread videos, but I'm at the 1 hour 26 minutes mark and I can already feel myself dreading the end of this video, almost as if it were one of the best movies I have ever watched (Which by the way, it is.) Thankfully I do recall that you've made a cinematic movie series of this, so i can't wait to watch those as well. So thank you. Thank you for making this video. Thank for you putting in the countless hours of effort into making this absolute masterpiece. This is something more than just a guide, more than just a video, more than just a movie. Your art of narrating over the clips is truly something else, and I'd love for you to continue making these videos. It's turning out to be a wild journey for me, and I just can't wait to see what you have next in store.
I'm just starting my Ark adventure. I had no idea about the lore or the task. I am so stoked to have seen this. Thank you so much!

That makes it all the more special. And it's great to be reminded of the entire story arc, before starting a new adventure in ASA.
Never had anything but a few tidbits of the story within ARK until now. This is fantastic work and I really enjoyed having all those little disjointed tidbits assembled into a complete story. Thanks!
i have always been super intuiged by ark lore but was never able to understand it too well, thank you so so much for this video i enjoyed it more then i ever couldve wanted to!!
Loved the video man, could really feel all the effort you put into editing n sewing it all into one cohesive unit. The music choices, scenes n everything are amazing. Thank you.

I enjoyed this whole video so much ! It’s incredible, and the best one I have seen ! It’s so detailed and so cinematic and beautiful ! Thank you
Nice dude! good job making this video, really enjoyed it!
As an ARK player that started when the game first released, this was an amazing adventure through the last 8 years, and it's the first time I've ever seen the full story from start to finish. It really encapsulates the dedication and the storytelling of the people who created ARK, even if sometimes it took years to get different pieces in place. Thank you for this great video.
I started this video with the intention of having it on in the background while playing runescape. 10 minutes in and i stopped gaming because i just wanted to continue watching, and easily deserves a sub. Amazing video.
This was awesome! You explained the entire story different to most other videos. Not only did you tell the story but also showed it with great cinematics. There are many other videos about the story but not a single one was as great, as perfect as this one. It's definetly worth to watch this video and it doesn't matter that it's two hours long. This video deserves a like, follow and way more attention as it's one of the best videos about the game. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 thank you so much for this video
Truly amazing video the amount of time to figure out the lore and make a story would take forever non the less actually adding cinematic behind all of it to line up and gameplay bits and pieces
This is so great!! Once again you bring life to what many just skip. Thank you to all that worked on this.

Our pleasure!
You did great on this! I never paid attention to the story in game with over 1700 hours. Glad to know the full thing now! Thank you!
amazing video, thank you so much for all the hard work you put into it, I am sure a video like this was not easy to make and was a lot of your time and energy. It's appreciated!
I can't wait to see if we get a more detailed story of arat prime in ASA. If we do, I look forward to hearing it from neddy
Insane production Value. great video

Thanks for watching :)
Amazingly well done, have been playing ark since the betas first released on consoles and I have played all DLC’s but never really understood all the lore and story and this made it amazingly clear. Well done!
Having played through ARK and the DLC's I knew there was a story...but I had no idea how epic it truly was. The game leaves these tiny little disjointed pieces of lore scattered throughout, which I had just attributed to a mediocre attempt at story-telling...but I was wrong. Thank you for taking the time to create this wondrous presentation of the story. This makes me want to begin the journey all over again.
Honestly, this is the best ARK video I have ever watched, you just describe the story of ARK so good and it's really enjoyable to watch even if it's 2 hours. Great job Ned :D

Wow, thank you Marti :)
Know what I find weird, Raia had the strength, and tames to take on the Guardian of that ARK... A wonder she didn't after going through what she had. BUT she Vowed to Survive, so I guess that's the reason she didn't do anything potentially Hazardous. Guess only time will tell(if they touch up the old stories moving forward, that is). As Always Neddy my Man, Thank you, and your team for all the hard work you put into these stories+

It's cool that the game actually implies Raia defeated the manticore, as Helena actually believed she did so, in her note 28, after Raia recognized Rockwell's Element as the property of the station's guardian. This is also implied in Raia’s last note because she said she saw dangers that would have paralyzed her with fear if she hadn't changed, and she drew two manticores in that note, implying that the manticore was the danger she faced. I also believe Raia went into the tek cave and maybe even faced the gods (the overseer) as she said, in her last note, that she saw things John would never believe. Considering John had seen wyverns and the destructive power of the obelisks, the Manticore or the teleportation technology of the obelisks would not be surprising to him. So she could be talking about the tek cave. However, I don't think we will find out if this is true or not because the writer is someone else. But that’s a headcanon that I like.

@@csds2240 Hmmm, wow I'm amazed at how little attention to detail I have *face palm* as you are Absolutely right about that, but then also why was she still on the same ARK, as we all know you get cycled to the next, and so on... after beating the guardians/overseer at least. That is the only "proof" that makes me believe she didn't in-fact face any of them. But the images, and those words spoken are very compelling...

@@HustlinHugh Well, the explorer notes characters had to use the tek cave consoles to transfer. When Timur defeated the manticore he was not transferred, just as Nerva was not transferred after defeating the overseer.
Absolutely brilliantly told story, well done and thank you for taking the time to do this!
This was definitely a much more epic story than i thought it would be! Good job to you (and presumably) your team!
This is the best ark journy description I've ever seen 👏 Btw. This is the most I've ever heard Neddy being so exaggerated of the characters in a good way
The lore of Ark is a convoluted tale. But you told it well and made it far more cohesive. It was a long video, but I enjoyed sitting through it nonetheless. I'm fairly new to the game, but I used cheats to unlock the explorer notes on the Island and was starting to read translations of some of the notes online to learn some of the lore. The amount of work that went into this video had to be enormous. Well done.
What an amazing story and amazing storytelling and an amazing video. I’m going to have to watch it again at least 2 or 3 more times before I completely absorb the amazing amount of everything this video tells. Epic telling Neddy, tyty
Earned yourself a subscription. Best 2 hour youtube video I have ever seen! Well done and helps me have the drive to play the game more! Thank you

I have been waiting years for someone to do this and I'm so excited to find someone who did!! Such an amazing job on the video. It was like a movie that I had been waiting an eternity to see! It finally put the story into a perspective that I could finally piece together without all the puzzle pieces scattered everywhere. I am so incredibly impressed. Job well done!
50:15 what a true chad: -make a cool illustration while evading rockwell -writes notes while evading rockwell -die -refuse to elaborate further (because dead)

Neddy I have to say you truly made something beautiful with this video it brought me so much joy to see my favorite number 1 game come to life with all the lore you put together into a beautiful story to which ark truly is just a masterpiece. I had wanted to do something like this myself but didn’t feel like I could nor had a awesome team like you have to make such great content. But I am glad I didn’t cause no one could ever tell the story of ark survival evolved like you can not even wild card themselves. But I hope to get into the story telling like yourself when ark 2 drops you know if it ever happens lol. Again thank you so much neddy cause of content creators like you, syntac, loaded crysis, and few others Im finally going to try and become an ark creator when ASA drops. thank you for the inspiration and all your awesome content you make. I can’t wait to see more in the future ahead thank you from one survivor to another let’s ascend into ark survival ascended and make stories to be told !
