Messing up the windows is cutting a hole that's too big....you'll be fine.
I agree that ventilation is extremely important, even more so when you have single glazed windows. I fitted similar windows to yours in my van and, to maintain good ventilation, installed Maxxfans Deluxe roof vents front and rear. The fans are very quiet and, having one draw in air and the other extracting, there is a good flow of fresh air through the van. The other good feature of these fans is they can be opened when it is raining.
It's always going to be difficult going between different converters for advice and jobs. The next person to work on your van will be picking holes in the other person's work, and finding different reasons why this or that won't work.
Never experienced condensation on either of my Skylights. They’re double skinned so guess that prevents it.
We finished our LWB crafter about 6 months ago and were both complete novices (2 gals in our 50's) when we began but learned as we went and realised that sometimes you have an idea but be prepared to evolve it continuously to get the best out of it. We got a local metalwork guy who custom retrofits cars to make us up a roof rack so it fits into the ready drilled roof holes and also has a mesh top custom fit to our maxxfan and huge solar array. Remember, your already on the journey, building it can be a bit stressful but overall its hugely rewarding and will love it when she is finished. My final bit of insight is on budget, be prepared to get the best if you plan on spending a lot of time travelling. I am 2 months from hitting the road on a 7 year adventure. Best of luck to you guys.
Perhaps try Maxx Fans, good views out but also they can be left open in the rain. And they have fans that push or pull air in or out. We got two and finding they work really well.
I think it's all a huge learning curve. Glad your getting professional people to do your windows. I think with the size of your van your brave doing your own conversion. Keep going, sending you positive 🙏 vibes. Keep calm and carry on. Look forward to your next instalment xx

Thanks for watching Jackie
Hi we have a LWB Sprinter with two max fans and same window set up as you. We only have one small non opening window on rear passengers side and use our van all year round and don’t have any issues with condensation.
I just want to say something that I've learnt - no build no mater what it is, goes exactly as you've planned but always works out better in the end as you learn during the build. (I hope that's makes sense, I'm not well at the moment and thinking is hard 🙂)
We’re building a crafter just like yours! :). Excited to see your build!

I’ve just watched your video. Can’t wait to see the series 👍
i love your video's and i am very excited to see the finish van build
It'll all work out well ! Loving the hair by the way x
Onwards and upwards. Aesthetically looks very pleasing.
Surely ur sky light have the slight open function for ventilation? It's pretty common and removes any condensation risk. It'll lock in a position of like 10mm open and remains water tight due to guttering system
Its looking nice, I think having too many windows in a van reduces options for internal layout, especially if you want to change a layout on a later date ?
We have a very similar Crafter xlwb, and have 5 of the six upper panels fitted with the full size windows. As others have pointed out, ventilation is the key. We use a Maxfan, and at night, with four people and a damp dog, condensation isn't a problem as long as we leave the Maxfan on the lowest setting (which is darn near silent). We also have (but not yet fitted) a small fan unit that contains a couple of computer type fans, that we are going to put in the back door in the uppermost panel, to improve air throughput. Another option is to effectively 'double glaze'. Cut 3mm perspex to the size of the window apertures, spray the outer couple of inches black (use clear plastic primer first) , then stick to the existing window trim with double sided foam tape. It's VERY effective, and as long as you seal all the way round, you won't get any moisture in the gap. You might need some form of protection between cooker and window to prevent the heat from warping it. We used a glass shelf stood edge on.

And a PS, it's dead easy to use aluminium box section to make a custom rack that bolts through the standard Crafter bolt holes. Happy to share if you want.
So many conversions are done on this van so plenty of knowledge available. There is doing it your own way or doing it the right way, getting the shell of the van done right means interior choices can be entirely your own
That's one large Van! Curious to see your build. All's coming together fine, I'm sure.
your converter is overthinking the condensation, ventilation is definitely needed in some form,I would look at maxair fan above your bed and in the front also,no dramas
Them little windows look nice in there looks good so far what you’ve done all depends how big you want the roof right now doesn’t it
New Crafter is probably the best van on the market at this moment. It is fantastic to drive. Also VW works with MAN now not Merc and VW bought Bentley so it is something to thinking about. I love Portland ...this year...known parking x
You need to think at least ten steps ahead and not over look the obvious. This is something that I have done for many years when I designing any thing!! But I still can make mistakes, but with thought like you there is always a way to sort it. Good luck with the build.
Learning Thank you.
I recently cut a whole in my van and installed an old caravan window. I've never done anything like this before so I was shitting myself incase I messed up. I think I done a pretty good job I made a vlog on it if you ever have the time to veiw it I would love to hear what you guys think. Much love and many blessings to you all ❤️
As you haven't cut a larger hole, the it should be fine, just consider to rearrange. Letter box window a not any more difficult to fit than any other window. Love you van and good luck with the build. Enjoy the travels.
Not such a disaster, cutting holes in the wrong place, now that would be a disaster. Keep it up eh…
It's good idea to do your 4 way carpet before windows.
think you shd rethink roof lights and get one above the bed and one at the front both with fans in , one on push , one on suck ,that's if you really want cool on hot nights ...
Seitz windows are a better bet on the bigger conversions tbh. I use glass on the smaller vans, T5/ Trafic etc but motorhome style on my Ducato, no issues with condensation then other than the windscreen 👍🏼👍🏼
More windows updates than my computer ! ;-)
Install maxfan is perfect for ventilation!
That's not too bad, thought you were going to say they where put in back to front, or had weakened the van structure preventing anything going on the roof!
I made the same mistake, condensation drips on my bed from my sky lite.😔 going to remove the sky lite.
The grand cali has openable windows on the rear doors. Probably for the same reasons.
Why don’t the other half listen to the better half, just give them time, they do and then it’s their bright idea.♥️
Instead of a roof rack i would pop top it and put a rack on the back door depending on what you need it for?
Van looks great, its a whopper, not seen plan but I assume roof layout also needs to take into account Solar Panel(s) , also ventilation for shower/toilet room wherever that is going. Would be good to see your layout plans if you get chance unless I have missed them. Good luck with the build...aah just seen your layout video :)
A van that size I would have gone for a ac unit on the roof as height restriction is already out the window. Would have the perfect sleeping climate in any weather
I fitted an H Bowers motorised fan to mine and no condensation. That means you could fit the windows you originally wanted. Also the fan is low profile outside, so would not interfere with your roof rack. See my vid about the fan on my Hikerdoc channel. ATB
Hi, not sure if you have talked about it, but will yoi be trying to register it as a motorcaravan once it's finished? I think this will be well smart once complete. 🤙
What about fitting the letter box windows in the top of the back doors ?
Shame you don't want A/C; game changer for us, even in the Transporter. Heat pump that comes with is amazing.

Never really felt the need for A/C. We always avoid really hot countries as it’s not fair on Bentley. No doubt it’s a lovely addition if you use it though
Not really messed, up just a change of plan…… All part of the journey.
New sub great video pal . Following ur journey 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hill head is looking a bit wintery there
No A/C with a dark green Van? In the south of France or Spain in the height of summer, I think you should reconsider?
Are you going to be able to leave ANY of those windows open if it’s raining? I would go with original plan of large windows and fit extractors to control condensation as best as you can, I reckon you’re going to get wet interior windows no matter what you do, buy a kaercher window vac.
@ABusAndBeyond

We will still have a Skylight above the kitchen that can open in the rain 😊
Go with your original plan. Skylight over bed = condensation. Simple physics.
I don’t mean to sound negative but you’re in a position a lot of people would love to be in. Changing the design slightly as you build is completely normal, it’s not a big deal.
What beach are u parked up at plz
Did they paint/rust proof those edges?
But confused why having a window and a skylight in the back would cause condensation? It it because the window would not open? Could you not have swapped the skylight for a maxxair fan?
Yep, you messed up by fitting single pane, condensation and not being able to keep on the latch when its raining.
more windows equals a colder van in winter
Its a work in progress SHAUN LISTEN TO THE WIFE YOU KNOW THEY ARE ALWAYS CORRECT. LOL
The van is looking lovely even with just the widows thus far - as least there’s a way around the issue (whispers, which wouldn’t have been an issue if Shaun had listened to you in the first place 🙊🤣 - sorry Shaun). Looking forward to watching the progress 👍

😂🙌
So have you got some windows for sale now then ?
@ABusAndBeyond
Жыл бұрын
We have the rear most passenger side window for sale yes
You've not had a disaster with your windows, a Maxxair roof vent over the bed would have cured any problem and given far greater ventilation throughout the van than those tiny windows you have purchased.
Don't worry you'll woke it out.
You have to hate it when the wife is right. Things happen for a reason.

I should’ve listened 🙄
seems everyone is saying 2 roof fans
Don't forget roof racks burn fuel when on a vehicle permanently. Do you really need it. 😁😂
Just fit an extractor
I don’t really get what’s messed up? It’s not that big a deal. Just get a roof fan 🤷♂️
hi you will not have any condensation dripping Down on you I also Done my own campervan with the same layout like you no issue at all I But 2 windows in the back boors..you will Be fine go with you own design or you will change your minds ..and go mad. 😂😂😂 best of luck
I’d be more concerned that Van Worx didn’t point this out to you, IF they knew all of your plans 😕

I love your videos but am also disappointed. Looking forward to the next update of the van build without the unnecessary over-dramatic title.
Waffle waffle
The windows weren't 'messed up', you just changed your mind about how many to use and their placement. Bit of a clickbait title...
Silly clickbait title and over reaction to a perceived problem. If you don't want condensation on the skylight just open it slightly.
6 minutes of waffle before you get to the point. Irriatating. However thanks for the video.
so video is a lie for clickbait, swont watch again, shameless monewy grabbers

sorry but windows werent messed up, you changed your mind after the first two and went for something different so video was weird to watcfh waiting for the disaster that never happened , a straight window fit video would have been more interesting. worst you have done and a sellout to clickbait, your better than this

All these so called Van builders and van life videos are really gone down hill, all use clickbait headlines now and reviewing gear they got for free, and who gives a shit about square space? No one that's who, just make a honest vid and people will watch it 👌
Waste of time watching. You will need air-conditioning which is also a dehumidifier
I still don’t understand why you would choose to do any of this! It’s such a big ugly van. There are so many professionally converted vans that would be better, safer, and probably cheaper. Looks like a money pit to me. Still you pays your money…
Great space 👌
