Over the last few months, we’ve been restoring this £5000 Porsche 911 to its former glory. We pulled it out of a scrapyard where it had been left because of some nasty vandalism, got it running for cheap, made it road-legal again, modified it, and then took it on a 1000-mile journey across Europe. Today, we’re in full preparation mode to take this car up against AutoAlex’s V6 MX-5 on track, but first up, we need to find out how much power this little old 911 is making.

looking at the heavier soot on the passenger side, you may have some early bore scoring on the driver side cylinders. Pull the spark plugs and oil pan, then use a borescope to check the cylinder walls, ESPECIALLY #4 and #6. If there's scoring, take it to Hartech and they'll make it better.

Lads, you might have air in the cooling system, next to the blue cap on the coolant tank, should be another back looking cap, with a lever on it, when cold, remove the blue cap, and lift and lock up the lever on the black cap, should hear some air gurgle away. Its the bleeder valve on the expansion tank. Hope this helps and might help with the over heating issue
@yeahitskimmel

You'd hope between all the guys at the performance shop who looked at it, one would know to look around for a bleeder as they're quite common on cars over the last 30yrs
@malice6081

I’ve never heard of that, I’ve heard of the only way to solve air in a system like this is either vaccum fill it or hope it can burp itself with the cap open

Bearing in mind that quite a few of those parts and mods were preferential, and not mandatory to pass an MOT, you totally have got this "back on the road" for double it's price. Winner.

12:46 such an underrated joke
Rich is one of those secretly world class pro's that doesn't look it at first and just wings everything, and it end up being perfect.
The best bit about that new exhaust is that it makes a lot more 'flat-six' noises and I think it might even sound better than it did without the muffler. Too many after-market exhausts are just generic loudness and noise, so for Rich to wing it and make something that makes it genuinely sound better is a great advert for his skill.

Thanks for the cost brake down lads. Always good for us 'normals' to see the true price of something without the youtube discount. Could prevent people from getting into serious debt because they think it is achievable to own a Porsche for a dime. Would also like to see an and of year (if it makes it that far) total costs. So including taxes, petrol (and miles driven) and least of all insurance.
This might actually be my favourite yt channel at the moment, good job guys. Loving the build + entertainment, what more could you want.

Hey dudes, with the roof, try getting some really fine wet and dry paper and sanding a very fine layer of lacquer off, then use an orbital buffer to cut and polish it to look like new :) I did this with my bonnet and looks amazing now. Think I used 2000grit, then 3000, then 4000 to finish, then used maguers cutting compound to buff it. (Sorry for some of the spellings, car products were never named for the simple man)
