You also did Steve Marriott's 5 Long Years! He was a fantastic performer. Another Small Faces to check out is Itchykoo Park. So glad you guys are back! Great reactions!

Her career as a solo artist happened in the UK, but she got her start as an Ikette with Ike & Tina Turner. I'm reading her autobiography, Soul Survivor, right now. Great stuff. Another KILLER tune by her is "If You Think You're Groovy," with this same band backing her up. They were labelmates on Immediate Records.

A small piece of trivia (gossip) The female back up singer is PP Arnold who started as a back up singer for Ike & Tina Turner. Beautiful lady and very talented in her own right. PP has written: "Steve and I were lovers at this time, but he wrote this song for Jenny Rylance. She was the love of his life" It worked out for Steve as he finally caught Jenny after chasing her for 2 yrs - she was the girlfriend of Rod Stewart. They married in 1969. Other songs Steve wrote for Jenny were "Afterglow", "All or Nothing" (though he also told someone else he wrote it for her, LOL) and my favorite "The Autumn Stone". Sadly Jenny and Steve divorced after 5 years. PP has been very helpful to Steve's daughter Mollie, who calls PP her soul godmother. Mollie Marriott is also a very soulful singer, worthy to check out.

Alrighty then, you hit Small Faces!! There's only been one Steve Marriott, but Ronnie Lane was a _killer_ bassist, Kenny Jones & Ian MacLagan on drums and keys filled them out. "All Or Nothing" or "Afterglow of Your Love" are fantastic tracks you ought to try next.

YES, YOU DO LOVE THIS SINGER !!! You Were very surprised by his voice when he sang "Black Coffee" with his second group Humble Pie, You also went nuts with Steve singing the blues classic "Five Long Years" with his last band "Packet of Three". Steve Marriott is considered by his peers, and many others to be the finest soul/rock singer Britain ever produced .Small Faces were only together a little over 3 years, but were the top Mod band of that era and were huge in Europe, though mostly unknown in the US as they never came over and only had two records on the radio at that time 1967/68 - Tin Soldier and Itchicoo Park. Small Faces are my favorite band (behind the Beatles) and Steve Marriott is my absolute rock hero - an unbelievably talented singer/guitaist/harmonica and keyboard player. He should have been a superstar, but never quite made the big fame and money due to VERY POOR management (got ripped off over & over), plus his self destructive ways He was an enigma, but very interesting man who sadly died at aged 44 in a accidental house fire. RIP Steve Marriott -Bless your soul. You will get lots of requests for Itchicoo Park because it is the only record most people in US know, but my favorites are the lesser known album cuts - so innovative, creative and uber talented these four young boys were. Robert Plant idolized Marriott and was greatly influenced by him I recommend you react to "You Need Lovin" Small Faces Plant copies vocal style and voice for "Whole Lotta Love"

The female singer is Patricia Arnold otherwise known as P P Arnold. She came from Los Angeles and was a member of the Ikettes the backing singers for Ike and Tina Turner. She was signed to Andrew Loog Oldham's ( the first manager of The Rolling Stones) Immediate label, the same label The Small Faces were signed to. P P Arnold had hits with First Cut Is The Deepest (written by Cat Stevens, later covered by Rod Stewart) and Angel of the Morning. Her first album was produced by Mick Jagger, the second by Mick Jagger and Steve Marriott. Patricia later sang with The Beatmasters on Burn it Up in 1988. She is still recording and touring to this day.

I was expecting it to be another song that was popular at the time called "One Tin Soldier", and was surprised when this one came on. Its a completely different song. The lead singer is great. His guitar riffs really reminded me of Brian Adams for some reason. Maybe Adams was inspired by him, he had a lot of hits in the 80's and 90's. Sure hope things are going better for you in Texas. Not your fault as Small Faces never made it over to the US with the rest of the British Invasion bands of that era. So, we in the US only got to hear Itchicoo Park, which while a nice pop song, does not really show how hot they really were. They were huge in Britain and Europe. Steve was a big teen idol on the covers of magazines and teeny boppers pinned his photos on their walls and mauled him any chance they got. That's why he quit the band (among other reasons), he wanted to be taken seriously for his talent, not his good looks. Like you, I only discovered them as an adult (I'm 67) and now they are my favorites. Search on KZread, there are lots of documentaries, videos and audio recordings. You won't regret it it I'm sure. Steve's later band Humble Pie is also great, and they did tour the US. I was a fan and owned their album Smokin when I was in high school.
