Steve was an extremely talented guy who passed to soon. Steve was influenced by black American soul RnB music. At a young age he had a large collection of rare Soul RnB discs from the states where the influence came from. He lived just up the the road from me in Manor Park East London UK.

Steve Marriott is a British Born Rock/Blues singer and guitarist form England. He started out in 1966 with a band called "The Small Faces," A few years later, he formed a Rock /Blues Band (this one in the video) called Humble Pie. Great soulful voice. One of the best voices ever. Steve passed away a while ago.

In the late 60s and 70s Humble Pie is one of the great bands that were changing the rock music scene by using different instruments and recording variations to build on most of the bands of the time that acknowledge that they were all big fans of mostly american blues musicians from the 50s and early 60s along with bands like ZZ Top, Moody Blues, Procol Harum, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Canned Heat, Buffalo Springfield, Cream and Jefferson Airplane

  • @harrybrumfield8763

You are listening to an absolute legend! Steve had one of the greatest voices in the history of rock and roll! He was The Artful Dodger in the musical "Oliver". He went on to form The Small Faces, and then Humble Pie. Peter Frampton played guitar with them for a time before embarking on a hugely successful solo career. Steve was a rather small man but he had a giant voice. The blues influence on young people from across the pond in the 60's can't be underestimated. They took " our" music, inserted some of their own vibe, and brought it back to us. We have called it the "British Invasion" ever since!

When in the 60s in the US, puppy songs (Anka, Boone etc) and folk music replaced Rock N Roll, a large group of skinny white kids in the UK (Rolling Stones, Who, Beatles, Animals, Small Faces, Yardbirds etc) were drooling listening to US black blues and soul music. Even Hendrix went to the UK first and later came back to the US as a star. And these groups paved the way for a new wave of blues based rock bands in the US, like CCR, Allman Brothers Band, ZZ Top etc.

Start with Black Magic Woman, Man of the World, the first part of Oh Well (and Part 2 if you want!) Albatross, and just go from there.. you won't be sorry. Unfortunately, Steve Marriott died in a house fire. With Humble Pie, he did express a lot of soul, being a fan of James Brown and Muddy Waters. Before he joined them, he was with the Small Faces. One of my favorite songs with the Faces is "Itchycoo Park," which featured more of a psychedelic pop sound, typical of the late British Invasion than with the later harder soul sound of Humble Pie.

Glad you guys enjoyed that. It was the music of my youth....Six years before this performance with Humble Pie , Steve's previous band the Small Faces brought out probably their best single in December 1967. "Tin Soldier"...It featured the great beautiful soul lady, PP Arnold ,who had been one of Ike and Tina Turner's Ikettes before she jumped ship and stayed in England .The video of that is powerful and dazzling too. All the UK and Irish bands were influenced by American blues and soul music in the early 1960s and Stevie was one guy who although small in stature, was so good that he in turn influenced Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant. As you can see ,soul and blues knows no colour. It's all good See Stevie and PP rocking it out here...it makes me feel , all these years later ,like i'm fifteen again!!! kzread.info/dash/bejne/aKqLttaxj7PegNI.html

Steve Marriot was singing like that in the band Small Faces in the mid-60s and even before that. He could turn any song into something special.

Steve Marriot. Great talent. Poor man died after falling asleep in a couch or recliner while smoking. The smoke and fire got him. Gone way too soon. Great reaction, S and M. See how things cross-pollinated back in the day?
