Freddy Fender was an American Tejano, country & rock & roll musician, known for his work as a solo artist and in the groups "Los Super Seven" & the "Texas Tornados". He was best known for his 1975 hits "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" & a remake of "Wasted Days & Wasted Nights". But he had some other great songs such as "Secret Love", "You'll Lose A Good Thing", "Since I Met You Baby", "Vaya Con Dios", "Livin' It Down" &"The Rains Came".

I Love My Rancho Grande was our family tune. Tejanos of course and Freddy was our king, lol. My grandfather had a band back in the 70s and most of the songs were Freddy's. My grandmother didn't know much English but could sing all the English parts of his songs.

His songs were on the Top 40 stations plus the country stations and he was always a guest on the weekend Country music programs on TV. He crossed a lot of genre boundaries back then. My Dad (big country music fan) bought that album.

I inherited that album from my Mom. I've loved it since it first came out. When I first started buying my own records, I got this album on cassette. Later, I bought the cd. Today, the album is in my downloads on the KZread app. Every once in awhile, though, I will dust off the ol' stereo, crank up the volume, and play this album...for the nostalgia from hearing the scratches and other imperfections. It's old, but has never skipped.

As mentioned here Freddy would later join forces with Flaco Jiménez, Augie Meyers, and Doug Sahm to form The Texas Tornados. They recorded two versions of all their albums, one in English and one in Spanish. Their Tex-Mex style was well received, and they were one of the most popular bands in Latin America at one point.

As a product of this time, Freddie Fender, Chico & the man, & Ponch from Chips were my childhood crushes. All fabrics of this great nation were fully represented in the 70’s post-civil rights and we embraced it all. Then the powers that be saw we got along too well and worked to decide us. I wish everyone could have experienced the 70’s & 80’s. It was a beautiful time in life. Before the internet and we all just made great music and did what we loved. Something anyone past Gen X will never understand.

This song came out when I was in middle school. I was in the school choir and I loved to sing anything by Freddy Fender! Just imagine, Stone Middle School, Huntsville, Alabama, 1972 through 1974! I wanted to sing just like Freddy Fender, had no idea what he was singing about in Spanish. In 2006 at the age of 44, here in Santa Cruz, California, I enrolled in a local community college just to study Spanish and became fluent! Watching this video tonight, I started crying. Music is wonderful! Again, I love your channel so much. You guys are the best.

Hey! While he had a solo career for years, Freddy also performed in "super groups". The Texas Tornadoes , in my opinion, was the best of these. The music was a regional blend known as Tex-Mex that the Tornadoes carried to all corners of the world. The Tornadoes consisted of Doug Sahm and Augie Meyers (The Sir Douglas Quintet), world renown accordionist, Leonardo "Flaco" Jimenez and my boy, Freddie (real name: Baldemar Huerta). U wanna experience culture thru music? Check out the "The Texas Tornadoes"

In country and western music, there have been dozens of hit makers from Texas but there have been only a handful of hit makers who sang in Spanish. They include Marty Robbins, Johnny Rodriguez and Freddy Fender whose real name was Baldemar Garza Huerta. This song was a top ten hit on the country music charts during the 70s. Also during that same era were a number of hits by Johnny Rodriguez who had several. I suggest you give him a listen as well.

Ohhh, now this is getting back there. One of my Grandmommas favorites. She was a Freddy Fender, Charlie Rich, Charlie Pride , and Conway fan. The radio was always on in the background at grammys house.

I always loved this song since it came out! Thank Y’all for playing it. I find myself singing it all the time despite its age.

I can see my dad uncle Jesse Bob Reyes and a few others whose name escape me sitting outside drinking a few and playing this. Memories of my childhood.
