Perhaps it's best you let the boat go, collect the insurance and get a new Salty Dingo. You're extremely lucky to have made it back. It worked out, so it's hard to say it was the wrong thing to do, but it was definitely the wrong thing to do.

Same. Many trips to Baja and in the early days with no tech, hurricane swells that were death defying. Definitely the wrong move jumping overboard at night.

I agree, I hate being negative but it is both a testament to your physical strength and you making a very poor choice, you are lucky guy and I send you all the best, just do NOT do that again cause you got away with it once and that is better than 90% of us would have done-we'd be gone.

Had a dory towline snap half way across the Capricorn channel at midnight in big seas and a heavy heavy southerly while racing home from the swains, jumped in and sat behind the mothership at 5knts for 8 hours before seeking refuge behind north West Island. One of my most memorable and scary nights on the water, don’t second guess yourself, you made the call in the moment and it paid off. Good stuff guys. Long live the salty dingo

So your telling me the dingo broke off the tow rope ,in the middle of the night ,in huge seas , in pitch black darkness and you jumped in and somehow managed to swim after it, find it, climb aboard, find the keys and start it , then drive it for 12 hours back to mainland in the dark, without running out of fuel???… Well done.

It is pretty miraculous that he's alive. It is no exaggeration to say that was a life or death situation and one thing going wrong would have been the end. Even approaching the boat, had the hull or prop smacked him in the head... There are just so many things that could go wrong and most of them fatal. I'm shocked he was able to catch the boat in all that wind for example. It didn't seem to have running lights on and the wind will blow a keelless boat faster than you'd ever expect. Insane.

I've introduced my dad who's an old salty scuba diver of 82 now to your channel & he's loving watching your adventures. As a kid we grew up doing lots of trips in a volkswagen Kombi campervan towing a little 10.5" tinny all over the place into some pretty rough places at times & not quite living of the land, but enjoying the many things we did catch & all the fun places we went. Your trips remind me a bit of my own adventures growing up & I know my dad feels the same. Stay safe & look forward to the new channel content.

Insurance? wouldn't that of covered the lost damaged boat? wont it cover the repairs now that you did get it home? I cant believe that you bothered to risk your life for that broken boat, not to mention those that would of had to rescue you or try to rescue you if it went down which was on the cards considering the condition of the hull. but hey its got us all commenting i guess

It’s a fact that life isn’t without taking a few risks here and there but that one was a little extreme . That can happen to some who have that ‘ brave. ‘ trait not thinking before acting but we also grow by making mistakes . I saw you guys upgraded by getting a bigger boat 🛥 so lesson learned . The funny thing... the KZread algorithm AI as they say, showed me the Castaways but not this video. It showed me "The Big Surprise" but left this one out and this was the one I was looking for.
