DOWNER BOBBIES OVER HERE WE GOT A DOWNER!

Theory: The girl is a Downer, she's just really good at hiding it (like how Sally was in game). • The pill that she gave him was from a bad batch. She knew this. • She's the one who whispers "Open your eyes" to him. • He snaps out of it too suddenly. She was intending for him to drop gradually so she could escape Wellington wells with him, hence her being so discreet, but he crashed too obviously and she had to abandon him or risk getting caught. • The previous point is why she continues the charade while he's chased around, and leaves before the crowd gangs up on him. You can see her seemingly disappearing, she's behind him as they pin him down but isn't present when they're pouring Joy on him. • It's why he dies alone. She couldn't risk trying to bring him out again, even after hours, it would be too obvious it was her doing in that case. Chances are she went forward with her plans to escape alone once seeing how he was too much of a risk and liability. Edit: more evidence: • "Someday the sun and moon might be gone though... I hate goodbyes" the bad batch is beginning to set in, he somewhat slipping. He's slightly aware of who she is, and what she wants from him. • "I might not love you still, there is no tougher pill to swallow" there is obviously romantic connotations in this scene... It's highly possible they are in love, but it was caused by Joy and not their own doing. She's aware of this, but still cares about him enough to try to save him too. That eould explain her motive for forcing a bad reaction to joy from him. • I noticed her dancing is a lot more organized than his. He stumbles around a bit and seems slightly disoriented at times, thanks to Joy, while she does not. Her exaggerated dance moves are to hide this from more observant eyes. • Directly after the joy she gives him he does this weird body movement, almost as if eating something with an unexpected foul taste. Perhaps his body knowing something is off with the pill but not yet rejecting it?

I would have put the woman in a true mini skirt (no slit, a LOT shorter), but otherwise agreed. The women danced different in minis -- no leg lifts, lots more emphasis on hips and waist, and vertical arm movements.

I think she gave him a crash pill. It's a pill in the game that instantly removes the effects of joy in your system. Must of messed him up really bad coming off his joy that quick.

Fan theory: the girl is joy. Here are my reasons. She shows up when (we later find out) the effects of the pill is wearing off, and she is trying to convince him that she is too good to lose. He also acts both happy and shocked to see her. If you listen to her lines alone, it sounds like she is talking like she is the pill, saying stuff like "now that your mine" and "I might not love you still, you'll find no tougher pill to swallow". No one seems aware of her existance, so its like she is his joy and his alone. When he snaps out of it, she disappears, and she does this throughout the rest of the song. While hes running anywhere but near her, she dances like she still has him as a dance partner. She disappears one final time when he gets the joy put back into him by everyone except her, but her voice is still there. He then says hes in love with happiness and that shes a beautiful girl. Also shes dressed to match the pill and him, but no one else. Sorry this was longer than the song, but its just some stuff I noticed.

I'm surprised this came out so recently, especially with the 60's vibe it's giving off. While the song makes me wanna smile at the same time it just creeps me out when you think of why they're taking the joy and what happens when your deemed as a downer, and how those who aren't chasing you just continue with their "happiness" while you're getting killed (like how the girl keeps on dancing while he's being hunted down.

My favorite thing about WHF is the tone and feel of everything, but my favorite bits are those related to everything is fine and dandy until the Joy starts to wear off, and shit starts getting real. Quick gamer In the game, they wear actual masks, as in plastic, unmoving ones, so it keeps the face still when they talk. Ofc if u do a live action, u gotta make do with white facepaint/make-up, which makes things easier even tho it dos look a bit off. If they wore real masks like in the game, it might fall off, it might be hard to breath, it might muffle their singing voices, and the ppl wearing it might feel constricted n stuff, etc etc. Tho I do wanna know how it'd look with actual masks :/

I found this detail in the game interesting because in psychology, if you make yourself smile you'll actually trick your brain into feeling happy as well. But yeah just thought I'd mention :)

This is genuinely one of the best produced music videos I’ve ever seen. The use of the color palette, the metaphor of the pills, it’s all executed so well. It conveys a romantically tragic message somehow in a cheerful way.

I feel like dancing,crying and playing this game again.😭 I sold my game when the first dlc came out and I had no idea. I want it back now 😭.

I may be crazy, but if they made the song with just all upbeat parts, it would be a freaking kick ass song, it is now but you could really make two versions and have both of them work.
