We Had a "Whaley" Good Week (groan!!) | Living Off-Grid on the West Coast of British Columbia

Happy Sunday everyone! This week Peach and I had a ton of whale sightings. Many, right in front of the property. I'm not sure Peach actually saw them. She heard them, but I think that's it :).
I hope you enjoy the video!

    it's pretty neat having the whales so close. i saw whales out sailing, but mostly orcas and not so often. the humpbacks are are just starting to arrive (i think there are 4 or 5 here now), but they'll start increasing in numbers.

    Early riser! I used to get up at 4:20 am for work but no way was I capable of speech for at least 2 hrs and two coffees later. Peach is a wonderful dog. Sometimes her instincts kick in and she can’t help herself. Something very exciting in the trees/hole. Have a great week.

    haha :) i am definitely a morning person. i LOVE mornings and that's when i have the most energy. as soon as 5/6 PM hits that's when i start to get 'grumpy'. yes, i certainly cannot blame Peach for sure! if the hole wasn't so big and deep i would have let her enjoy herself, but if she slipped into it i don't know how i'd get her out. i put a board over it so kids/dogs can't fall in.

Extra incoming power ( after batteries are full ) goes to this dump load. With an extra insulated hot water heater i end up always having free hot water as a bonus.. just a thought for you.,

    Another good week for you. Same here! Things are getting busier with the lodges moving out ready for the season, freight boat delivering etc. As for 'tourists'......most are great but there's always those who, in my situation, drive by the house float, 5 feet off the dock, taking pictures and when you say hi, are quite annoyed that you are there?! They don't have any respect for our house or space....😅.

    @AmandaOffGrid not really noisy. I hear speed boats going past, and we get a few boats anchoring right in the bay as it's a good, protected corner, and mentioned in all the cruising guides. There are just some tourists who seem to resent the fact there are buildings and a house here. Folks can be really funny at times.

    Your stronger, more efficient and very comfortable with all that wood splitting. I don't mind the talk about weather. One thing I think about is that apparently the Inuit have hundreds of words or phrases to describe snow. But when us west coasters talk about rain, we aren't nearly as prolific. It's a little disappointing. LOL

    :) people who kayak around here almost always have a guide of some kind. these guides know the islands better than most people. if kayakers stop to get water or ask questions i'll tell them about the bears, but most know. if you're kayaking around here you have to be pretty ocean and nature savvy :)

What is coolest thing you ever found? Also, weird, random question but I am teaching myself to crochet. (Watching KZread videos😂 even at a not so young age you can learn all sorts of things on KZread! 😂 ) Do you make your own hats (or maybe farther North they are called toboggans?) {sorry, lots of rambling to ask question.😂😂}

    hi Pam! i am so lame as i have never found anything cool. i know a girl whose parents found a massive garbage bag of marijuana washed up on the shore back in the 70's. they sold it and bought a house for 30k. it's now worth a few million - haha! that's how i taught myself to crochet, watching KZread. i watched Melanie Ham's channel (she has passed away now, which is super sad). i make all my own hats (except the Carhartt & Stanfield ones). i think the term you referring to is 'toque' :)... i think most what i make would be called beanies maybe?

    not so many visitors. most people respect that it's private property. you do get the odd person or group that stop at the dock to see if they can look around or use the dock to go on a hike. unfortunately part of my job is send them on their way. i always give water to kayakers though as fresh water is very tough to come across here. i once had a guy stop with his whole family in this small boat looking for a lighter. apparently they were on a day trip to have a beach bbq and forgot a lighter - haha!
