It’s not though. They may be the 4 in the West, but they’re closer to the play-in side of teams than the elite teams in their conference. They’re so inconsistent and laughable sometimes. Ty Lue isn’t a good coach. This is also their all-in season, no guarantee PG or Harden is back, and this team isn’t better than the Nuggets or Celtics. C+ is accurate and fair.

My submission for comment of the day: The “big 3” era of basketball is over for the time being. The late 2000s and 2010s were dominated by teams with 3 all star caliber players, all in their primes winning championships. The Heat did it, the warriors did it, the cavs did it. A little before that the spurs and Celtics did it as well. This is not as viable a strategy anymore. All the best teams right now and recent champions are focused on 2 stars and a really good cast of role players. I think this is because the NBA talent pool is so deep now that the gaps between low level all stars (that cost max money) and high caliber role players (that cost mid level exception money) has really shrunk. Players like Derick white, herb jones, Aaron Gordon, etc. have become MORE valuable to championship teams than players like Bradley Beal, Zach Lavine, and Brandon Ingram, because of their defensive impact and willingness to do the dirty work while costing far less. I think going forward front offices will see what happened with the Westbrook lakers, 2022 nets, current suns, Carmelo thunder, etc. and stop using their assets on a 3rd star caliber guy and start using it on getting 2-3 top tier role players (the current thunder might mess this take up because of the fact they were able to just draft a big 3 and can still get great role players now lol)

I think the problem with media now is similar to what you all were saying. Pre conceived notions play such a big factor. People see some stupid tweet about something or see some click bait youtube review before they even watch or listen and go in with the mindset of picking it apart or proving some point they want to shit post about later. It’s a really really bad thing to do with sports and particularly the NBA Playoffs. The playoffs absolutely dominate NBA discourse online and people look at them with absolutely no nuance. They look at a couple recent playoff series of a player they don’t like and look at box score numbers and form their opinion on that rather than the 1000s of games they played before. Then they go into next years playoffs praying on their downfall and when it inevitably happens because only one team can win the championship, they dance on their graves. Players like Tatum, Embiid, Harden, Booker get so much hate for a couple of bad games they’ve had in the playoffs and people take nothing into account. Not matchups, not injuries, not team construction, just “this player hasn’t won a championship they’re a choker”. Despite the fact they are one of the best players in the world and routinely carry entire rosters. It’s easy to praise Jokic now because he has a great coach and arguably the best constructed roster around a superstar we’ve seen in years, but those same people bashing embiid for winning the MVP over Jokic last year because embiid is a choker, were calling Jokic a playoff bust 2 years ago. My very long winded point of saying. Watch what you like, like who you like, and don’t go in trying to prove some point because you can always cherry pick media to prove what you want.

Malachi Flynn was one of the most frustrating players to watch as a Raptors fan. His lack of basketball IQ (partnered with Precious Achiuwa’s consistent cluelessness on the floor) was infuriating. Let alone Desmond Bane went one pick after him in 2020. It was good riddance when he got traded. And then… on the SAME NIGHT they have their largest loss in franchise history, this guy drops 50! Looking for forward to the lottery when they lose their pick to the Spurs 😢

For those of you who have hiccups in the future: 1, take very very small sips of water non-stop for 15 seconds or so (basically don't stop the swallowing motion, like you are chugging water only tiny tiny amount). 2, this second way is even better but some people can't do it right: take an actual full lung of breath (it has to be full, gasp a bit more if you feel like you weren't 100%) and hold it at max capacity for 15 seconds. These are guaranteed to work. You can look up why if you need to but I don't want to type it out in comments. If it doesn't work you are probably not doing something right but I haven't had a hiccup lasting more than 20 seconds for 10 years lol.

They still have Kawhi for the future with his extension so that ending part of the question isn’t quite right, but same time, this is their last season of expectations for a while. At the time, I get the PG trade because Kawhi wanted him, but Shai has shown that was a bad move, especially with those picks having value now and OKC scouting department showing they find people. I think if they fire Ty Lue and get a better coach, they’ll be play-in level, but no championships in the future still.

I think they’re very similar in that regard. Jokic has seen more success so you could pick him reasonably but Lukas age makes him better in my mind
