We got ISSUES! LS and BBC issues..... Racecar Life!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

More work on the 532ci BBC for the Mustang over at Mike's shop. I run into some self inflicted issues, lol...... I mean, it is my first rodeo with a big block so I'm not being too hard on myself..... But, like it seems every time I go over there, I think I'm almost done just to have to order more parts! Mike is tearing down his LS engine trying to find the copper...... you ain't gonna believe this one either.... He found it, but not what we were expecting at all. Racecar Life

If you’re beating the pin bushings out, it’s usually detonating!

Dart makes a lifter valley head stud kit that comes with four machined steel spacers that go on the studs before the washer and nut! Ten times stronger than washers that don't actually fit! Another person mentioned to have a machine shop Keensert those four hidden studs threaded holes in the heads! THIS IS A MUST! The aluminum is not thick enough for just a 3/8-16 thread because I had one of those pull the thread out and the steel spacer got wedged between the oil drain back slot and the cam lobe! Bent almost every valve in both heads! This happened in a burnout at 6 grand! You will be glad you put those Keenserts in! I also installed screens over those drainback slots in the lifter valley!

Yes John, since the gasket is unsupported, you can snip the gasket where you pointed out just enough for the stud to go through where the slot is in the block. Don't take the whole tang off though. Won't cause any issues if you do what I say.

You can order individual studs from Mc master carr. They come in with arp stamped in the top. We had good luck with them. Also the afr does use a little different stud arrangement.

Yes AFR heads are different. ARP does make studs for AFR heads!!! Found out the hard way.

If the pin bushing is pushing out like that it's almost certainly a detonation issue.

ALWAYS warm up a new build with as minimal stuff on it as possible!! ALWAYS!!! If you have a run stand, bolt it up and warm it up that way instead of it being inside the car. You can then check for oil contamination, monitor oil pressure, listen for any unusual problems, etc etc etc. And it can be run with just water or even without water for a minute or two.

Time-sert those stripped head bolt holes. They are much better than helicoils.

Not! Watch the Torque Test Channel's test on thread repair options. Heli coils beat time serts. I'll never use time serts. Have never had an issue with heli coils.

Hylomar won’t keep the water from leaking on copper gaskets. I talked to Deacon (Jet Lube)subsidiary. They recommend their Deacon 4011 for copper gaskets. You will not reuse the gasket have using the 4011.
