But really what could go wrong with it? It's just a big cored block of iron wound with >100 lbs of thick copper wire, a nichrome wire wound rheostat and a mechanical switch to select between the massive transformer output windings (voltage select) oh and a fan. The fact that the fan is working is what I find most remarkable here, lol.

@message29 just love following your post Alan. Have a fantasic day!!
When I was a kid, I would watch my father arc welding with an old WWII-era welder. We grew up on a decommissioned WWII military base, turned boarding high school and the government left behind a LOT of equipment that the school continued to use for decades. The arc welder looked very much like the one shown here. Granted, the military base opened in 1938, so unless THAT base got it second-hand, that welder wouldn't yet be 100 years old now if it still existed. I am pretty sure that it has been scrapped many years ago now.
Alan has a lot of things going for him 1st he is very knowledgeable,: he has an unusual, and rare amount of common sense., and I love his humor. I would love to see his electro magnet!
Love seeing a Wizard in his natural environment.
Cant wait to see him pick up stuf with a electro magnet
I could watch Allen fix heavy equipment all freaking day!!! I actually learn so much.
IDK if this is a spinoff of Alan's channel or Dave's channel - truth is, wherever Alan is, there's something interesting and funny. What a GIGANTIC asset for the Sparks crew!
Allen is such a beauty the knowledge that guy has it unreal
The revenue from this mini-series will pay for all the materials needed! LETS GOOOOOO!
Given that there is a solid state metal (selenium) rectifier in the welder (the finned object), I am not sure it is as old as you think, as the rectifiers were not invented until the mid 1930's and not in common use until some time later. I would guess the welder dates from the 1940's or even 50's.
Alan's a lot of good entertainment and old school Very entertaining
Ya'll are lucky to have Allan, this man deserves a raise!
Alan you the mightiest Wizard of all things that are impossible until proven possible .
Let Allen build the electro magnet would love to watch that series!
Alan is the greatest wizard alive ❤ his brain works overtime with inventions ! 😊
The old Hobart's where built to last!!! Based in Troy, Ohio. They were bought out by Miller. They still make small wire welders for Tractor Supply. Miller mainly bought them for Welding Rods and Wire. We have a Hobart Stationary grinder, it's bigger than a pickup axle! We also have a generator/welder, powdered by a 2 cylinder Wisconsin engine . And a Beta Mig 200 Hobart wire welder.
This was great, Alan is a cool guy. Love the old welding machine.
Alan is a tough worker no matter what.
Allan knows a LOT! All the "textbook" stuff and a LOT of tricks. I am impressed 👍. This is high quality entertainment! Keep it coming... and remember to tell The Wizard, that he is appreciated.
The Wizard is the absolute perfect nick name for Allan he is a valuable member of the sparks team for sure !!! Also as for the picture for the thumbnail of The Wizard, it is absolutely amazing and you should make one like that for all of Allan's videos !!!! But make them just a little different each time !!!! You know make him look sort of like the leprechaun from the dodge release video but as a Wizard not leprechaun !!!!!!
I would rebuild that welder and give it a new look and use it. Don't get rid of our history 💪🏽🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yes let the wizard work his magic. He is amazing.
