Clicked on this to watch and see what Sparks Motors was up to, but I got an explanation of blacksmithing that gave me a whole new level of appreciation for the fantastic work that Andrew and his wife do! Forged in Fire touches on some of it, but they haven't ever explained it as clearly and precisely as Andrew did in this clip.

The end of the video when you presented “The Bill” to Dave’s Mother brought tears to this old Vietnam Veterans eyes. I found it fascinating that he used the phrase “you’re one of the good guys”. I have found myself using the same phrase over the years with people I think are worthy. Some days they can be darned hard to find. 23rd Infantry Division “Americal” Chu Lai & Combat Support Base Vandergrift 1970-1971.

Having watched Alec Steele and Will Stelter and "Man At Arms: Reforged" for years it was kinda hilarious to me how oblivious the Sparks crew was to the basics of blacksmithing... 😂😁😇 But yeah, leaf springs and coil springs are a staple for bladesmiths for over a century now. High carbon steel makes good sharp blades - if the smith knows what he's doing. It's not just about smashing steel into form, it's also a lot about the knowledge of metallurgy. Heat treating and hardening through quenching are two critical things where the bladesmith has to know what happens inside the steel... 😉✌️

Andrew, this one really touched me when you present the knife to Dave's mother. I served during Vietnam, and while the Abraham tank was tested for field readiness. It did not do so good out in the desert and i watched as it had to be towed in because the air filter clogged. It showed a lot of history in those knives, and I am proud to watch your show.
